Me personally, I just like my figures to look mean, edgy, bold and confident. Or neutral with a touch of “coolness”. The neutral expressions I’m not a fan of is when they’re too straight-faced.

If money were no object, I would love every figure to come with a neutral sculpt and an expressive one. Maybe every character should wear a cowl so we can always have swap-out face plates. 🤣

Given the choice, I tend to prefer a strong expression... but HT messes those up as often as they succeed, so maybe neutral is for the best.

Expressive sculpts are far more limiting than neutral sculpts.

Depends what you want to do with them.

My latest Hot Toys, Sabine Wren, is so passively neutral that I was in two minds whether to display her with her helmet on. However, since the sculpt is intrinsically so good I opted to holster her blaster and deactivate her sabre and have her 'non-action'.

Thankfully Rain has something of a more determined expression:

It works with the rifle...

Youthful faces always present problems though, as the skin is smooth with less wrinkles to enhance expression.

Oh, I'm sure you'd love DAM Toys Resident Evil Claire then!

Gotta love that blank stare... o_O

The blue eyes really bring out the likeness, I hope we get some high resolution pictures of the figure at Secret Base. Also looking at some pictures it seems like there's a teeth plate inside the mouth to give it more depth and realism, nice touch if that's the case.

On the subject of her expression I think they made the right choice, Rain's mostly scared speechless for most of the film up until the point she thinks she's going to die and then has the zero gravity idea and gains the determination to fight until the end. They clearly went for that particular moment. A neutral expression would've been a bit boring imo and not really befitting of the character and circumstances she finds herself in.
I’m surprised they fixed it so fast. But why not post an update on socials?

Those wrists are the biggest problem now.
They're probably waiting for licensor approval to officially go ahead with the change.

Yeah, this is the only shot where the expression bumps me, though, to be fair, I very rarely have figures interacting directly like this. Pretty much lightsaber duels are the only time I have figures standing face-to-face. Otherwise, I'll have them posed on a shelf together facing forward, and I agree that Rain's expression works perfectly well for those kinds of poses.

Ngai Hang Tse's money shot (the closest he zoomed in):

It does make such a big difference.

The brown irises combined with her almond shaped eyes were making her look partly Asian in some shots:

All this for a 12 inch tall figure that will stand behind glass from several feet away representing an Alien movie. Or will live on a shelf or just hang out in her box in the closet in the dark. It’s laughable all the criticism over minor details that ultimately don’t make a ton of difference when she’s posed in a display case. When she was shown as a possible production everyone was hoping and wishing. Now that they announced her as an upcoming figure everyone hates all these things about her making their own adjustments like they know better. I’m just happy she’s getting made. The eye color was important for sure but all the other nitpicking is ridiculous. There are just those people who are bored and need to be heard. Thanks Hot Toys for offering a cool figure from a great Alien film! I’m stoked!

Yeah, I mean, I've been harder on this figure than most -- largely because the original prototype set a certain expectation that the official release hasn't (yet) met, IMO -- but I really don't see the issue in discussing things that could be better. At almost $300 retail, I think a bit of light criticism is fine. It's not like anyone in here is going, "Wow, what a trash figure!" By and large, we all seem to like it... Some of us just don't like it as much as we wanted to.

Beyond happy it’s being made but HT needs to put care into it and not churn out a half-assed product. It always ends up seeming that way, I remember when the Ripley figure went up all those years ago and received the same level of criticisms. But is considered a grail piece now, because they haven’t made another yet.

We know they can do a lot better. If it’s the only Rain we ever get, they should be looking to knock it out of the park.

What else is there to talk about? Would be a pretty boring thread if it was 23 pages of “I like it, I’m going to buy it”. We are all pretty happy. But if people hadn’t made an issue of the eyes nothing would have changed. I don’t see why it’s an issue to chat about what else we would change. As threads go I think this one has actually been pretty good and on topic.

If you have another conversation worth having about the figure feel free to bring it up 🤷‍♂️.
