So much this. I'm tired of them trying to reinvent the Predator.
They did it in Predators with the "Super Preds", they did it in The Predator with the "Assassin" Pred and they did it with "Feral" in Prey.
I know the "Fugitive" Pred and the captured "Classic" in Predators are meant to be Winston style Preds but they don't match the quality of Winston's work.
We haven't had a expertly produced classic Winston style Pred since P2.
Instead of constantly churning out these mutant Preds, I wish they could produce a classic Pred, to Stan Winston's standard.
Play around with the skin colouring, armour etc. But no more drastically altered anatomy please.

The problem is, you're just never gonna get another Jungle Predator from Hollywood. You just won't. This isn't even exclusive to early 80/90s properties but even today, you can't get two movies back to back without characters changing their look or costume. Companies want to sell toys, they want to be different from stuff that has come before, they want their version to stand on it's own, they want more creative freedom, etc etc. There is no Predator movie that we'll ever get that will reuse the Jungle Predator design. Studios just have no interest in doing so. They always have the need to do something new and fresh. At least with Prey, the overall movie goes back to what the first movie was about, unlike all the **** Predator movies we've gotten since 2. Whether you like the design or not, is of course personal preference but getting another Jungle Predator that isn't anything more than a cameo, is a long lost dream.

Just look at Alien, Robocop and Terminator. Now we have 20 different Alien types, a rebooted Robocop design and we can't even get an Endoskeleton that stays consistent from one movie to another. I agree with what you're saying too. I wish they would stay closer to the core design structure of the Jungle Predator and not go so extreme but at the same time, they do have room to play with seeing as it's a creature that they can excuse as having multiple sub-species under, resulting in there being various designs. Studios aren't really tied by a mandate that tells them, "You NEED to make the Jungle Predator again but slightly change its bells and whistles".

At the very least, I'm happy Prey was a Predator movie that went back to form. The design for the Predator might not be to everyone's taste but at least the overall movie wasn't a complete **** show like what Shane Black was doing with his movie.

I agree Prey was a good movie. It's just the creature design I didn't like.

I also agree film makers have thuis need to put their stamp on everything, change classic designs for the sake of doing new or different.

The Lost Tribe were Winston Preds but we're visually distinct from each other. They could have the Winston style Preds but as you say they won't. New Preds that move further and further away from the original design.

Well, it's been a long time since HT released a "new" Predator.

So Feral might sell decently simply for being a "slump buster" This is the "Varsity Blues Deathtrap" At 2AM and lacking sobriety, everyone looks like Ali Larter in a whipped cream bikini. HT also might end up reusing the mold ( i.e. a battle damaged one in a two pack with Mid Thunder plus the flintlock, etc, etc or if the sequel will have some flashbacks to Feral in it to justify some merchandising or the body gets reused but added with some armor, etc. )

I think the design is great, with the mask on. But I've never liked any Predator without the mask. All of their cool factor is lost the moment they remove it.

Rumor has it factories hate painting Predators, but manufacturers have to appease folks like me who have a conniption whenever the forehead spots look wrong (looking at you, Prime 1's Big Game Cover Art).

When I think Predator I think cool mask or Jared from Subway. Not gross mandible monster.

Yeah I had no problem with the subtle changes made to the xenomorphs over the course of the Alien series, since they were still instantly identifiable as xenomorphs. But it was surprising to me just how little this Feral Predator actually looked... like a Predator. And in fact it's almost like they couldn't get the actual rights to the creature and had to do a complete redesign.

It doesn't hurt my enjoyment of the movie at all, but it's still odd.

Loved the movie, hated the Predator design so an easy pass for me. However I hope this makes HT open to more Pred figures. No need to remind anyone on which Predator desperately needs a 2.0.

I would have preferred the jointless torso similar to the venom/carnage bodies and an interchangeable BD arm and mandible could have easily been included.

Regardless of how unpopular the redesign is, you can't deny that HS is on f***ing point

There's tons of variation to human phenotype.

Most of us who are right in the head accept that and recognize that's a normal part of our species.

I don't see why Predators as a species wouldn't have just as much phenotypic difference as we do. That's why the general appearance of lizard man with four facial limbs and head tentacles is really all you need, I think.

I do feel like they drew a little from that early prototype design for the Predator when creating this look, though.

I like it, and it's okay that many of us do.
