The price will probably be what will leave most people out. When you buy a boxed figure you're buying a pre-painted sculpt so I don't get the hang up there, if it's a better job than you could do, where's the problem!? However, you can also fall into the trap of your Indy not being as 'custom' as you thought when you buy the head that 'everyone' is using. Then of course those that do have 'that' sculpt laud it over those that don't. To my mind there's room for every Indy so long as the owner is happy.

Well said, Rog!

Then there are those talented individuals here in the forum that simply like painting their own figures and/or who know they can do a better job than anything that comes pre-paintd by someone else. There's no shortage of insanely talented people here.

Think that's what he meant when he said the following:

That's not how I interpret it, because clearly some people aren't happy that only a painted version has been offered. So, it's not the price alone that will leave people out of this.

To some of us is easier to get the unpainted and get it painted down the line. The prices are so big the you can only afford the unpainted just to have the sculpt secured.

Guess you can't please all the people all the time, but I'm sure if the feedback was that enough people wanted an unpainted version, they would accommodate that.

It does seem kinda odd that they're only offering a painted version. Unless they just don't want to take the chance of having any of their headsculpts floating around out there with bad paintjobs.

That seems to be the arrangement with MJ Choi. I haven't followed for long but McClane was offered the same way. Perhaps this method helps keep the recasters at bay who are looking for a cheap unpainted sculpt to steal.

As long as this isn't priced in the danger zone, I'm all for it after seeing the work that was done on McClane.

I think the McClane price was my limit though. Please note Dane.

Note to self: Be sure to price Greg out of Indy sculpt sale.

JK, the price should be roughly the same. :)

Some scumbag recaster that's going to sell a few hundred knock-offs @ $40 doesn't care if an original costs $50 or $350. Just saying it's a drop in the bucket either way.

You're right about this, which is why I wouldn't argue that only offering painted sculpts mitigates recasting.

I think the painted only offering is more about profit margin. But hey, at least if you're stuck paying for a paint job, it's a phenomenal one.
