Such versatility in this sculpt and paint job, this photo makes his eyes and face look sort of perplexed, like he's trying to figure out what's going on before his eyes, yet other images make him look focused and ready for battle, that's the mark of a good sculpt to me, and again, I find those things in the ROTS Obi-Wan portrait as well, different conditions project different emotions through the face. Trev and Andy really know how to take a sculpt beyond the anatomy.

True, Ben looks pensive in some poses...

Like here with the famous DA Repainted ROTS Obi...

And a bit pissed in others... perfect for his battle with Vader.

It's neat that the ES is done by the year, but since I don't care how limited these are and they don't print an ES number on the 1/6 figures, it's not too important to me. if they had printed numbers, it'd be great to own the year numbers.

Yeah, it would play more importance I suppose if they printed the numbers but either way I just find an odd little cool thing.

A few more Death Star Ben, spotting Vader.

Fewer Shadows to show off the Sculpt better this time.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got on the waitlist only two hours after the PPO, and now I get an e-mail saying the waitlist is CLOSING and my reservation has been cancelled! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:monkey2:monkey2:monkey2:monkey2:monkey2

That's weird. I am not sure when the PPO ended, but I remember Old Ben, because it's the only time I have forgotten a SW SSC PPO. Got home around 4:00 PM and said,"... " well let's just say, I used some non-Christmas-y words. So, I created a Wait List Reservation for Exc. and a regular order. My exc. converted on the 14th and shipped out yesterday. Does the Wait list go in order or is it random? Perplexing ....

Nice work Paul, I'd stick with the white background though, the white balance of those photos is more true to reality, the black background shot has a bluish tint to everything.

I don't know if they're behind us persay, Ben's just a case of a beautiful prototype and a beautiful finished product and a popular character, plus isn't the 1977 ES smaller than past Exclusive ES, so that could play into it too. I think a lot of people were "meh" about Leia, the first 1977 figure, but I think everyone is singing praise over Ben, many hailing it as the best in the line to date, so I wouldn't judge anything by him, he's an exception to the rules it would seem.

2000 seems to be about the norm for awhile on exc editions sizes... so 1977 is really not different than most. But even Leai which has had a mixed reception, although now mostly positive, had the waitlist close already. But I think Ben has been the quickest... which definitely seems to be related to the excellent quality all around.

You ask me, the line is more popular than forum readers are lead to believe. People who post in forums only make up a tiny percentage of the buying community.

I have often wondered how many extras are made. After they sell out the...say 1977 edition size...they always seem to have plenty to replace quality issues. Some people even turn their's back in for one small issue that would be an easy fix. But Sideshow always seems to get the replacement done.
I will bet money that those extras are not just discarded. I will bet some makes some corrections on them and puts them in a new box and sends them off.
But I wonder a lot of things about that. Things like whether the extras are included in the edition size. If not, how do they justify advertising the edition size compared to the actual number in circulation? Do they attempt to anticipate the number of extras made or do the get them as they go.
I have yet to hear of anyone having a quality issue on an exclusive edition that did not get it replaced.

Oh yeah! We make up a very small percentage of the buying public. There are millions of SW fans out there and if you take up the boards we post on the % we make I doubt is more than 2-3% at most. I like to listen to the convos around the SS booth or talk with people in line at SDCC to get an idea of how popular these lines are outside the boards.

There's a world that exists outside the board?

Well I never gauge the line by posting in forums because it never matches up with cold hard facts. I go by PPO turnout, Wait Listing, Second Chance offers, pretty much the things that can truly be quantified and for the most part, the quantifiable data suggests strong support. Hell, going by forums, Commander Praji was a flop but by sales numbers, he succeeded, even if 50% were customizers looking for parts, he still sold out.

I bought the exclusive " Bespin Luke " and I have still to hear about a replacement for my blaster and damaged belt and they are fully aware of it. I even offered to send the items back .

Yes there are millions of Star Wars fans, but the percentage of Star Wars fans who are active collectors high-end collectibles is much smaller, and the percentage of fans who buy high-end 12" figures is smaller still. I think some simple math (the number posters on the related Star Wars boards divided by the total edition size of the average figure) should tell you that we do in fact make up a significant portion of the buying public, although nowhere near a majority of course. (So in other words, your point is valid, but I think you may be overstating it a bit.)

I've always been kind of surprised that Sideshow's figures aren't harder to find, given the large fan base and small edition sizes, but for whatever reason it seems that there are only a few thousand people in the world who actively collect them.

I think there are a good deal of SW fans that buy this particular section of SW items. Plus then you toss in people who buy this section of collectible and boards make up a small portion. It may not be 2% but its less than 10% I would say.

Yes, I'd say right around 10%, although I'm not basing this on anything concrete. But the total buying population for SS SW figures can't be all that huge simply because the edition sizes on these figures are in the low thousands and they often don't sell out of the regular editions for quite some time.
