Maybe he's saying it to prove that he's not one of Sideshow's mindless minions; this way, when somebody accuses him of being biased on SSC's part, people will say "but no, he wasn't impressed with Old Ben's paint job, and that was the best one of all!" Very very clever!

Its possible you've tapped into something there Capn'...

Thanks for the comments D.Martin about the paint and sculpt differences on the Obi-Wan figures. And of course for you great and very creative photos, looks like you had a lot of fun with this one :rock

For a very accurate comparison, check out the Sarah Connor figure. Both it and Obi-Wan have a similar wash.

Awesome, thanks for putting it that way Dave, I've got Sarah and if Ben's as good as Sarah I'll be happy as hell. I think that should be deemed the official Trev paint quality, all his sculpts should be done that well :D TREV LAW

OK, this is a really nice figure. No way the final likeness is better than the PF - that one was dead on - this is a close second - there is just a tad too much facial line action going on. I would give this a solid 9/10

Personally, I don't see nearly as much Alex Guinness in this:

As I do in this:

Bu then again, I haven't liked the likenesses on any of the Star Wars PFs. In any case, I am super stoked about this figure! Assuming my waitlist order doesn't convert very soon, do you think there is any chance of a place like BBTS getting stock of the non-exclusive before the end of the year? I have it on preorder there as well.

Not that clever if we both came to that same conclusion right away. :lol

Haha, I guess what I was getting at is this: I'm not any company's stooge. I'll call a spade a spade, whether it's Sideshow, DC Comics, or Lucasfilm, or any of the people I do work for.

If I get my Old Ben comped to me a little early, I'm not posting to brag, show off, or tow the company line. I'm a nerd, a geek, and a collector, and having joined the SS Freaks boards I've noticed every possible human state from Zen tolerance to Frankenstein monster "honey, have you seen my pitchfork...?" mob mentality.

I know everyone has been really anxious about the Old Ben, because it's one of those "Don't ****** This Up, Guys" STAR WARS figures, one of the special ones, dear to our hearts. I just wanted to let folks know that they have very little to worry about on this one...

And we thank you for easing our anxiety Adam. Just out of curiousity, how would you rank Old Ben in terms of your anticipation of figures; was he one you were really anxious to get or was he more like one of many things you've been looking forward to but not with any extra want.

I was pretty excited about this one. "Spin in circles like a puppy until I pee" excited.

Ben Kenobi is the Mercedes of STAR WARS characters, the class act of the "Long time ago" pantheon of characters. Alec Guinness has something like 20 minutes of screentime in ANH, yet Ben Kenobi resonates across 6 films over the course of 28 years. That's a lot to live up to, for a toy.

One thing to factor in to my opinions about collectibles, however.... I'm a junior customizer as well. 1) I don't get too bent out of shape over a less-than-satisfying figure because I'll just roll up my sleeves and try to fix whatever it is that I find unappealing and B) my personal philosophy is "T'ain't nuthin' what can't be fixed". I know not everyone does this, so I can understand how we are all looking at these collectibles differently.

So... I get excited about figures, some more than others, but I never get really cranky/anxious/worried, because I have the 'get out of jail free card' in my head that says 'anything can be made a little better, so don't worry'.

I got my notice as well and I am running around like a madman trying to get some extra funds in my account to get him.

Someone buy my animated maquettes, dammit!

That said, prepare to cry. I stole your Obi-Wan last night while you slept.

Wait a minute...! Chavez and Shai of all people are loving this figure, and Josh isn't so happy?!

Did I just jump into some Bizzaro version of the forums?

...Oh, wait, Collector Freak still hates it. :sigh of relief: There is some normalcy around here... :lol

I saw ANH as a kid. I must say, that although I thought old Ben was Ok, he was never one of my favorites. After the PT and Ewan's interpretation of young Obi Wan, I have a renewed interest in old Obi Wan. He is a much more complete character, at least to me. Now I am feverishly looking forward to this figure. Did this happen to anyone else?
