Theyre selling out online because they havent seen that travesty yet. Theyll either have buyers remorse and suck it up or just say its nice and secretly hate it. Its that bad.

I asked Sideshow to stop sending me the taunting emails with his completed photo look. It was bad enough the sculpt wasn't as good as Hot Toys and looked off but then they delayed it, (good reason or not) and then kept sending emails about his finished photo shoot.

The smart alec rep responded that they weren't taunting me but letting me know how he looked before they shipped him and I said they already did that with the pics they posted when the dang thing went up for Pre Order 100 years ago and they should be giving back to the customers who support them and not keep reminding us we don't have him, good likeness or not and he credited my account with $15.

I didn't reply. It's one of those things. I'm really 'grateful' because it's not a popular figure and I'm just glad to have it or 'one day' have it if they ever release it from their lost at port story that they also backed up with news footage so that I'd shut up but it's just one of those figures that I really, really wished Hot Toys was in charge of. Man, that would have been an awesome figure. I remember seeing this flick a few weeks after it was released in theaters and it was really incredible.

I was going to say I hope Macready is next but now I don't know. I guess with him if it's a bad sculpt you can just put the goggles on and spray some snow on his face but still. The fact remains. The sculpt is lacking. Thank you Sideshow but it's lacking.

Sorry guys I know you were all talking about the Custom vs. Sideshow figure review. But I just don't get these kind of sclupt releases. It looks like Sideshow 1998. They have the staff, the talent, the money, the backing and they put all this effort in detail with wardrobe, weathering, distressing, little things like the cassette tape he switched and left Donald with the bad bag of goods and the cigarette and ect and then when it comes to the head sculpt they said, "Ah, just leave it, it looks fine, close enough." Is that what happened or did Kurt Russell say, "Ok you've got my likeness but ONLY 42% of it so do what you can." I don't get it. I don't know how on such an anticipated, at least for me release of a movie figure can a ball be dropped so hard.

My loyalty to my childhood movie is paramount and I ordered the dang thing and I'll display it but I will display it in the back part of the case. It will be back there with Sideshow's old Mulder and Scully sculpt that this figure looks like it came from.

The Spenser figure is nice. I decided to unload it after SSC announced their Snake because there were a lot of things I didn't like (the TTM-19 body is not a great choice for Snake, the boots were stiff and rough, the head has a really strange profile the makes his head look awfully thin) but it did have some really nice positives (this shirt is really nice, the belt is good, the wrist accessories are great.) Also, although that jacket looks nice off the figure, it does not look very good on it.

For $160 I will not hesitate to mod the ever-loving hell out of the SSC Snake. I, for one, am actually really looking forward to that. I am curious to see the head - does it use the plate and eye thing that Drake does? If so, wouldn't it be possible to disassemble the head, mod the eye-slit to be a little more narrow, and then put the plate back in for a repaint? I think a squintier eye (and a slightly more narrow jaw) could really help the likeness.

It's a NECA 8" retro figure...what more do you want? I have the figure and it does what it suppose to be (an advanced retro Mego). The figure is a great looking figure for the type of figure that it is.Highly recommended if into these type of figures

Awesome screen name. But this figure is nowhere near a travesty. It's grown on me so much in the last two days, and I really think EVERY fan of Escape From New York (and/or Kurt Russell) will really appreciate it in their collection.

Admittedly, the posing options are, to me at least, limited, but I'm really glad I bought this figure. I only wish I would've called Sideshow and changed to the Exclusive a few months ago. I was lazy.

Excellent, balanced review without the hyperbole that has frequently surrounded this release.
Hyperbole reactions is exactly what Sideshow deserves for being so openly hypocritical.

Also, it's not a review per se.
He didn't show anything regarding possibility.

Nicely highlights the merits of both figures, while being critical where needed.
Critical evaluation is what people expect from reviews. "Highlighting the merits" is also the act of criticism.

In what way have SS been hypocritical? Also, can you advise me the official criteria for what constitutes a review?

''Critical evaluation is what people expect from reviews. "Highlighting the merits" is also the act of criticism".

Are you not contradicting yourself here?

I'll get mine in tomorrow... since I plan on using the jacket I'm pretty sure I'll swap out the body first thing, do some weathering to the outfit and then touch up the paint.

Hmmm this gives me an idea. Now I know how to get smokers to quit. Single jointed human elbows ftw! :lecture

Where there is a will...

The pants restrict posing. Snake never really did dynamic movement, but the pants do make movement difficult.

Looks decent here... I think the biggest overall critique from the photos I've seen is he just seems a bit too clean and simple, which really adds to the doll effect.

I honestly don't know what to think, the figure looks decent but the issues with the boots and paint apps makes me wanna cancel it. I know we were all expecting a train wreck but even Drake's clothes and accessories were great. I don't wanna spend $170 on a regular figure when I can get one of those Second Batch Dredds for almost the same price.

I'd say Dredd is definitely the better buy... and aside from the gloved hands he's a total win. Snake will need a bit of work, but I'm confident he can be upgraded w/o too many unreasonable costs.

Could be worse, but just when you think SSC might get close to HT quality.

Better to just never think that... Sideshow just doesn't seem to have the commitment to quality needed. I appreciate the licenses they acquire and many of the design choices, but I can't think of single 1/6 figure that has matched the quality of a HT figure. Some have come close, but there's always at least 1 fairly serious ****-up :huh

well it did wonders for this

That is actually a cast of a reshaped and partially resculpted head... you can also make it look a lot better (but not that good) with a reshape and some paint; but Rhamier did quite a lot more work to undo the damage of the 3 part head, and then made a single cast of the work for painting. All in all a very expensive proposition for a single head :lol

Looks good enough.

Beats having to piece together a custom.

I totally agree with this... I know I had over $100 invested in one a few years ago for just a pair of pants, an unpainted head and a few accessories. After getting in the head and seeing it kind of looked like poo, I sold it of quick and never looked back. For $170 this is still a decent value... just sucks Sideshow can't get their **** together.

That ZC Toys body is perfect, it's a dead ringer to the TTM19. I might pick up a few of these for my customs since I've been using some bad quality narrow shoulder bodies.

It definitely would do the job for Snake.

Is the zc toys body is painted as in the pics or has a shiny plastic feel?

Dunno where to get snake from, I'm in France...

I have a ZC body that should be here today. Figured I'd try it out.

The other link I posted I have several of and like. It has a different torso musculature than the TTM19.

After this figure I would want some company to make a Jack Burton and a Dark Helmet figure and I'm done with my childhood movies.

When do you get Snake again? Be sure to post up what it looks like with that other body.

I bought one of those bodies last year. It's a GREAT body!

One thing is weird though, and please let us know if yours is the same:

I have bicep twists on mine. The product picture doesn't show them, but I really love that they're included. The breakup of the smooth/seamless arm is minimal.
