It's a shame so much modification is needed for this to look more screen accurate. I mean the weathering on that jacket should have been done during production. What is the point in supplying a jacket that isn't screen accurate? HT weathered up Star-Lord's coat, even adding in the tears on the bottom. SSC needs to go this extra mile to improve it's quality.

I will be very interested in seeing how QMX's Firefly Mal turns out. If it can produce a better paint than Sideshow, right off the bat, then Sideshow really have problems.

They are now selling not only Hot Toys products through their website, but also Star Ace, ThreeZero and Three A, all of which are producing a higher standard of product than they are.

QMX said this last I checked: "We spent the last several weeks looking at other factories, and got some timely advice from another high-end figure developer whose work we consider the gold standard in the business (you probably do, too). With that bit of extra help we were able to get into a factory that is producing excellent work – even better than the reference sample, in fact. So we have high hopes that with this partner in place, we will be delivering a Mal that is worthy of Captain Tightpants".

I got a feeling they spoke with Sideshow not some other company that is the gold standard :monkey2

But to say that they will never make another Snake is crazy talk, I mean people also said hot toys wouldn't make a Darth Vader but they did. Things always change so its funny when I read quotes like "must buy this figure there will never be another!!!"

No one knowledgeable about HT thought that. Howard Chan has a mad hard-on for Star Wars, it was bound to happen someday. Now mentioning Darth Vader, most people feel it's more inaccurate than Sideshow's ROTJ Vader, Sideshow's Vader is a little less expensive as well.

I'm sure someone will make another Kurt Russell as Snake head sculpt someday, a full figure would also be possible, I just don't think any of it will come from Hot Toys. If HT did make one, don't expect it to be better than Sideshow's Snake, HT screwed up just as badly on Indy and that character is a true Icon.

Very good point about Indy, don't forget Han looks sub par as well. But will Sideshow's new Indy look any better than Snake? Hot Toys does have more hits then misses Sideshow's human portraits outside of Star Wars aren't very good though, doesn't surprise me that during the 12 days of Sideshow we saw more statues than 1/6th maybe they are taking a step back from them.

This is by far the most disappointing figure i've bought in years.

Shame that there is literally no other snake options so it is what it is for now.

I tired to bring out as much kurt as I could with touching up the paint, eye, facial hair, fine details. I preferred him on a The Wolverine, color mached better, proportions better. Drake hands. weathered and restructured the jacket. weathered and dyed the pants.... really crap pics for now... i'll do better crisper ones in daylight soon

With the skills you possess you shouldn't feel at all disappointed with what you managed to create there, your Snake Plissken looks truly amazing!
I was looking at good pictures of Kurt the other day and I noticed he has very full eyelashes that aren't present in Sideshow's paint. I think once they're painted in there under the brow the eyes become less of an issue.
Sell off or re-purpose the original body and hopefully you will feel content.

But since then they've pretty much given Mal a TBD release date, so that factory must not have worked out.

It's actually tradition that 12 days of Sideshow be almost nothing but statues. They usually save showing new 1:6 figures until NY Toy Fair (not at but during the fair) which soon follows and SDCC. With SSC making DC and Marvel 1:6, they certainly won't be stepping back.
I'm unsure of Indy too, I really disliked their first Indy and I'm wary of how TOD Indy will turn out so I haven't pre-ordered. I'll wait until production samples are shown. Hopefully Sideshow will improve their production paint by then.

Couple questions guys...

Did anyone come up with an idea on a possible replacement body, besides the Bruce Banner one?...

Is anyone doing any kind of repaint/customizing on the weapons?...If so, please post some pics...They still look oversized to me, but a repaint to me would at least make them look better...

Thanks...

Matt

Raymond used a Wolverine body for his, the one that came out recently. It came out very nicely and fits it well, doesn't hurt that the repaint is also amazing as hell!

Raymond said the Wolverine body is perfect for Snake, that's what he's using in the pics he posted in this thread. If you want more articulation, I don't know.

Lols, nom nom nom. So this thread will prob. go quiet for a bit till people start getting their repaints from Raymond. I can't wait to see those pics and see some happy Snake fans get the figure they were supposed to get the first time around from Sideshow. The 2 people who I hope got on Raymond's repaint list are Snake Plisskin and Juanca33 who have been supporters of this figure and thread for a long time.
