IG-88 was damn impressive. What SS pulled off was freaking awesome but I don't care enough about the character to buy it.

Indeed. And I don't care how many people hate Han in that scene, but it was a great moment of revenge to see him half blind take out the badass who thought he was so clever to have claimed the bounty. Truly classic.

I dig Boba Fett as much as the next guy, but completely agree about that being an awesome and memorable scene. Taken out in a slapstick comedy routine

I always liked that scene too. I wonder though how we'd be complaining if the burp wasn't there before and added in the blu-rays???

If the scene never had it and then Lucas decided to add it in the special editions, that would have pissed people off like all the other crap he's added to scenes or modified.

Probably so. Because the original films existed at a specific point in time, reflect that time and Lucas's POV from then, and folks want to remember those films as they were. Sometimes the changes make more sense than at other times, but in a sense the nature of the change is really secondary to the fact that a change was made at all. It just isn't the same movies anymore.

Regarding that specific scene--Boba Fett is, in part, a comedy character because he died in such a ridiculous way. That's just what he is. If Lucas played him completely straight as a bad-ass bounty hunter that died or didn't die in some bad-ass fashion, then he would be a different character and a change that altered his nature would be jarring.
