Great job Rory! I was planning on doing this exactly. Thanks for showing what it will look like. Do you have a link to your thread to show progress pics?

As usual, Rory made this look about as good as it can.

It took a lot for me to cancel both Han and Luke Hoth... been waiting years for a good set. But this just isn't it. Even with the fantastic mods, I can't get past the Hasbro-esque outfit with ill-fitting pants, oversized stitching pattern on the vest, giant glove-cuffs, plastic boots, and the unnatural arms with baggy material (see below).

This and Han arrive looking as they do, and then SS slaps a NRD on all further purchases. :slap

Yeah I agree, Looking beyond the head, the costume is incredibly inaccurate and rather simplistic in its execution.

Finally cancelled both Hoth orders. I sooooo wanted to purchase them but more pictures they don't scream $200+. I fully expect these to be available cheaper later so I might be tempted then....

BTW, Pix, you should have waited a few months... Disney store will have these up for a discount like they did R2.

They won't have the Exclusive Han, which is the only one I've ordered. :) My Star Wars list is getting very short now.

My custom hasbro Hoth outfit came out nicely. Still would like to see what we get in hand to decide which parts I'll use. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1426369361.591874.jpg

That looks really nice. There isn't nearly enough difference between this and the Sideshow outfit to justify the increased cost. I also find the Hasbro vest colour more appealing.

The weakest element in these customs is the Hot Toys head sculpt. Great rework on the Hasbro outfit Jim!

There isn't a better sculpt to use as of now.

Might as well use an Ashley Wood 3A Tomorrow Kings sculpt instead of the Hot Toys. Looks about as much like Mark Hamill.

Yeah, I'm being extreme. At least when you hide the hair on the HT sculpt as you did on your custom, it's not so bad. Not as good as SS's by a long shot though - it would be worthwhile to try and rework the eyes on that one if one is so inclined. A new paint job would also go a long way for some.

Really? Hot toys Luke head isn't perfectly accurate and is definitely stylized somewhat. But if you pull the heads off the bodies, both regular and bd 8 or 9 out of 10 people off the street will see Luke Skywalker.

Too bad you have to alter the eyes and repaint the Sideshow sculpt to make it look good.

Have they ever released a figure where collectors didn't have to mod it to make it look good?

I think the Bespin Luke sculpt is middle of the road for HT and shows quite obviously two common traits with their work. Stylized features and pinched/extended face. DX07 works amazingly well as a complete product, I love the set and won't ever part it out. But the accuracy and realism of the face, is IMO, mediocre. When I compare it to what they did with Alfred Pennyworth and what ThreeZero did with Tyrion it's downright laughable.

I would rather an impressive 1:6 sculpt with a reasonable likeness, than an embarrassingly badly produced, badly painted, blank-eyed doll head.
But that's a personal preference.

I have "fixed" dodgy sculpts many times before. This SS sculpt would require time investment that I wouldn't be willing to give, it's not good enough. And you can't paint holes.

Definitely agree with you on the dx07 set as a whole, has to be one of the best 1/6 values ever considering everything its comes with. I have never seen the Tyrion in hand, but the pictures do look good. I don't think I am going down the GOT 1/6 rabbit hole though, I already have enough trouble keeping up with other lines.

And you can't paint holes.

But you can replace the eyes and mould new lids. The eyes are the least of my concerns with this or the Han sculpt, so I wouldn't touch them myself.. And both looks mile better to me than DX07 - maybe my opinion will change in hand, but comparing photo to photo or photos to my in-hand DX07, that's where I'm at.

You should have waited and just purchased a parted out outfit and a single head for the hat if that's all you're planning to use.

A superb likeness is great to have and can be crucial in some respects, but I try not let it be the end-all of a figure. The whole thing has to come together and in many cases I can overlook likeness issues such as with Bespin Luke, Alice, Indy, etc. Or niggles like small crotched or short-armed Sideshow Sandtroopers and Tusken Raiders. I'm much more critical to likeness if I'm purchasing a single part or sculpt for a specific custom. But poor production, as you've mentioned, is also something that bothers me a lot more, I just don't feel that what I'm seeing of Luke and Han in these photos crosses below that line however. I'm hoping the product in hand isn't drastically different than on screen.
