Sideshow... Gun in one hand and saber in another (left hand on top of it)... Why not just stick a feather in his ass too? Who sets these figures up for photos over there? :rotfl

I'd honestly be a little surprised if the difference between proto to production on this one would lead to that many cancellations. Just doesn't seem all that far off to me.

At this point I'm just going to wait to see what I get in-hand. These heads are all over the place. The close up Rory posted earlier has one eye that is very badly distorted and 30% wider open than the other eye. Luck of the draw I guess.

Interesting how the unhatted head looks a little too small for the body in most pics. Maybe it's the oversize SSC body?

That BD head looks better there.

Yeah. I'm digging the battle damaged head in that shot. Might be the one I display. Not a fan of the "unhatted" head.

Gentle Giant are masters at putting guns on every minibust. Can't even have a glass of ice cool blue milk without a blaster.

The key production error on some of the Luke heads seen so far (at least three different figs have had it) is that the right eye - as you look at it - is 30% vertically wider than the left. It looks pretty obvious because there is a lot of white visible beneath the iris on that right eye, but not on the other eye. It's what's making the eyes look noticeably "wonky."

I'd also argue that the paint apps are very basic on the production fig compared to the proto - the BD sculpt is obvious, but the other heads also have very minimal or simplistic apps paint that makes the heads less realistic than the proto. But hey - those are hand painted by a master painter, so not sure where our expectations should have been...

Worth mentioning is the rank badge pocket error (which Rory looks like he took a crack at fixing) which is pretty obvious and right there on the front of the vest.

If you look at the pic Rory posted a few pages ago (which is a large image) you can see the issue clearly. Yeah I just mean based on Sideshow's pics I doubt they'll see mass cancellations and they seem pretty in line with the fantastic shots from Para and Stealth. Luke probably looks closer to proto than Han overall, at least if you just go by SS's shots.
Hopefully I don't get a wonky eye, I'm mainly interested in having the main sculpt look good. They really need to work better at not having the size of the eyes increase so much. Han went from squinting and having kind of beady eyes to having a wide-eyed stare.
I also find it interesting that in both Luke sculpts the cheeks look a bit sunken in compared with the proto. It seems it's a result of the 3-piece head system as I seem to remember Han had a similar sunken in cheek look. I'd take that over what happened to Drake though.

I just added a collection of pics above to show the wonky issue. Honestly, it may be that they are all like that unfortunately. When I went to check, I haven't found any saved pics of this fig that don't have the wonky eye. And no, the proto doesn't have this issue (both eyes are even.)

Scary photos. Yeah if anything the right eye on proto is slightly more closed or slightly less round than the left. Not sure it bothers me though, I'll see when I have it in hand with some shadowing.
Actually I think they nailed Hamill's wonky right eye perfectly.

Yeah... that hatless head just isn't working at all as far as I'm concerned. Even with the fantastic paintjob on the proto, it only just barely looked like Hamill, and the crappy paintjob it comes with makes it look even worse.

OK, so Sideshow got the real-life wonky eye correct... and fell short of the real-life everything else?

I love the justifications in here sometimes. One random photo can make fantasy a reality.

people want to delude themselves that they like something in order to justify it to themselves, ive done this many many times over the years

If you guys are referring to my post, I wasn't really serious with that photo. I just don't see the eye as being all that wonky as others do. To each his own though. Maybe when I'll see it in hand I won't be satisfied and will sell it off down the line. It's not delusional to have seen enough nice pics from Stealth and Para to still maintain some optimism.

I know that there is no way in hell I would be happy to put that Luke head in my display. Solo you can disguise somewhat.
