This one really surprised me as I have no deep love for the original Cloverfield and I think I missed nearly all advertisements. I saw it this passed Thursday and was kind of blown away. Would not be surprised if this turns out to be one of the best movies in 2016. Let me know what you thought!

From the synopsis I read about it, I'll pass. Although there's good reviews out there for it.

is it the overall genre change from big monster movie to small thriller that turns you off? Or something specific about the plot?

There absolutely no link to CLOVERFIELD.
Its a marketing ploy.
They are trying to sell CLOVERFIELD as a brand name for Twilight zone style anthology.
Movie is good, the last 10 minutes were cool looking but meh storywise.
they should have kept the original ending.

Yeah which I find strange because I never realized Cloverfield was such a big deal or title. I mean it was good once in the theatre but I've never heard it mentioned again until now. Also I understand how the end is meh or seems added on.(SPOILERS) When you are comparing this ending to many of the indie movies (which this could have turned out to be) with similar plot or structures it sure is interesting seeing an expensive all out climax added on. Usually this type of movie ends with a " cut to black, who knows the truth so ambiguous!!" or a simple line of dialogue that explains everything in a "oohhh!!" kind of way. And plus it totally works as we are seeing this only from one person's point of view through out the movie.

also who really cares about the title??? a good movie is a good movie. I'd say go into this forgetting anything and everything about Cloverfield.

haha I got to say though this title worked for me. I went in expecting a subpar alien invasion movie and got an extremely intense 2 hour experience. I saw this in an xd theatre (knock off imax) and the sound design was amazing, if you live near these theaters I highly recommend it for this movie.

True.
And yeah as long as we get a good movie thats the main thing.
But artistic consideration aside its a cynical move that kinda proves me that JJ is a snake oil salesman.
I usually applaud these kind if tricks to bring audience to a good movie they would not have gone to but after A NEW HOPE 2.0, reading to unused plotlines of What could have been im a bit fed up by JJ bag of tricks.

Still i encourage people to go see the movie, just warning them to not expect a true CLOVERFIELD sequel.
If thats complaining...

I remember you saying this when the thread first started and people weren't believing you, turns out you were right. I thought the movie was solid though.

I was excited for this as I'm a huge clover field fan, it is my favorite found footage film and I probably watch it once a year. Hearing that this has little to no link to the original film or monster is very disappointing. I haven't seen this film but I was expecting the first act to take place in the bunker and the rest of the film to take place with them on the run from the monster.

I also love CLOVERFIELD, save for the character themselves lol, and yeah this is not a sequel.
But its a good movie, if you like original scifi stuff Like the outer limits, twilight zone yur gonna enjoy it very much.
I still hope they Will do a real sequel to CLOVERFIELD, they talked about doing a sort of side sequel, you would be following a Tv crew this time.

Wonder if the next CLOVERFIELD tagged project is going to be GOD PARTICLE, probable retitled SPACE STATION CLOVERFIELD lol

I absolutely LOVED this movie! The last 10 minutes I am still deciding on but everything leading up to that shocked me and kept me engaged, wondering what was going to happen next. I am totally down with using Cloverfield as a brand name ala Twilight Zone to tell well orchestrated suspense films.

So, was Roseanne the alien?

Thought it was good, not great. Figured it was just going to turn out to all be a hoax put on by Chester Molester. The aliens seemed a bit weak...
