I'm not sure anything happened with the sculpt, I think it's probably a combination of the paint job and the removal of the neck. They suck for articulation, but the traditional Sideshow neck has allowed for better overall looks on humans because of the natural flow of the neck from the skull which is lost when the heads are mounted on a neck joint.

Yep, that is what it looks like to me as well. The sculpt itself looks to be the same, just different lighting and paint. The neck being missing as well is an obvious change as well.

Plus, most of the shots Trev takes of his bare sculpts have a good lighting mix and really capture the forms well, where the proto pics have flat lighting and don't have the impact his raw sculpt shots have.

I was thinking about this the other day, and wanted to clarify my opinion on the Indy head. Trevor's sculpt is amazing. The prototype though looks as though something went wrong. The proportions don't quite match the pictures of the original sculpt. Sideshow can really nail this figure if they can fix what it was that amiss in casting.

That sculpt is 100% the same. The difference is in coloring and lighting.

I literally cannot wait to get his puppy into my hands to paint! I will find the Harrison in there! I know Trev left it for me to find! :rock
Remember too, it's younger Harrison. He has changed a lot since Raiders. This is definately the early look. Also, I do like it on the neck more. That comp shot shows how well the flow goes from neck to head. Just hope the new neck and body work for it. I think it will.

Styrene or plastic model, plastic. I've used Balsa wood before but its kind of fragile. The plastic has a nice streaky quality to it that simulates wood very well.

More durable, just considerably more expensive.

Actually I shouldn't say its that much more expensive to make. A sheet of plastic of suitable thickness will cost about $11 and you could probably get three crates out of it and then a pack of strips will be about another $5. Glue is about $2 and then the cheap paints from Walmart or AC Moore.
The problem is the time consumption since this took me about and hour and a half with all the detailing.

You know, if Sideshow was willing to make a holochess board for Star Wars, what do you think the chances of them making the Idol display area to go with Indy? Frankly, I think it'd add more to a display than the holochess board.

I'd want the skull that holds the three Sankara Stones.

You mean the entire statue of Kali? That would be awesome, but HUGE. Or just the bottom part?

As for the Fertility Idol Pedestal. I've made one of my own in 1:6 scale and I'm about to put the finishing touches on it (moss and little details). Pics soon.

Cool I'd love to see that display Carl! Please PM me about those Indy Heritage cards. I still haven't heard back from you about if you have the 8 cards I need to make my base set. Thanks IrishJedi!

Will do, Mike! I haven't responded yet because I'm moving next week (back to my house, which the ex-wife is vacating) and the cards are all boxed up somewhere. :banghead But don't worry, I do have them.

foolkiller, that's awesome! Do you stll have the image file you used to print the Nazi insignia?? If so, I could really use that for mine. ;)

I should somewhere. It is an Adobe Illustrator file . I could make it a pdf for you if you don't have AI.
