Re: 14 shot dead at movie theater

:mad:What the hell were a 6-year-old and an infant doing at a midnight showing, and at a movie kids that age shouldn't be watching?!

And yeah, even for states that have capital punishment, it's a joke. The offenders are more likely to die of natural causes than to see their execution date. Through their appeal process, and even if they don't appeal the decision an inmate rights group will for them, it's very unlikely they'll be executed. And death row inmates cost nearly 10 times as much to house than a regular population inmate does. These pricks know this, so there's no fear of comitting these acts from a legal stand point. And even the execution has to be humane. They have to be in good health to be executed.

But this idiot will pull the insanity plea and drag his trial out.

Gun control won't prevent incidents like this from happening. Guns are only deadly in the hands of bad or irresponsible people. Anyone who thinks gun control is the answer to these shootings is a fool. Gun control keeps guns out of the hands of responsible citizens wanting to defend themselves in these situations. These POSs will still get their hands on guns in a society that wants to prevent its people from protecting themselves. That makes for worse public shootings.

It always makes me sick to read about these public shootings. May God be with the victims.

Re: 14 shot dead at movie theater

My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this senseless tragedy.

Re: 14 shot dead at movie theater

Colorado resembled Batman’s arch-villain “The Joker” at the time of the shocking attack.

“We have some information, most of it is public. It clearly looks like a deranged individual. He had his hair painted red, he said he was ‘The Joker,’ obviously the ‘enemy’ of Batman,” Kelly said at a news conference Friday.

This was supposed to be a fun weekend. Seeing the last film of a huge franchise. And now not only does the film makers have heaths death in their heads but now they have this guy killing people because he wants to be The Joker? It's to bad this guy had to taint this moment forever, hopefully the people that are just injured end up being ok.

Re: 14 shot dead at movie theater

Whenever something like this happens, folks get freaked out and want to heighten security out of fear, but the real problem is mental illness, and there's such a stigma and misunderstanding about it in our society that these cases don't get appropriately addressed before it is too late. His mom should have done more, but was probably not very well informed about what to do, and had to deal with that stigma, so. . .

Usually when people "snap" there are folks that knew something was wrong with the guy who snaps. They should be informed about these issues and emboldened to act.

Also a valid point. If it's not the stupidity of the shooter, it's that of those around him. Are people that ____ing clueless? Rhetorical question.

Re: 14 shot dead at movie theater

Well it works pretty well in most of europe. Nothing against people owning weapons for recreation, hunting whatever. But only certain types of firearms and extremely strict licensing ensures we don't have people (criminals or citizens) walking the streets or driving on our roads with a packed pistol.

The whole thing in the US needs to be looked at, I actually agree with Nam, at this point handling it incorrectly could actually make the issue worse.

But it's crazy that anyone outside of law enforcement/military are allowed to own handguns etc.

Evil ____er looks like a Batman fan.
So if someone rented a uhaul and used that to kill a bunch of people that were running a marathon, would you say only truck drivers should be allowed to drive trucks? How about cars in general?

Holy crap, I actually agree with your whole post.

Ridicoulous analogy. We have trucks in Europe as well, but we don't have the gun crime problems that US has.

And by the way in most countries, only truck drivers are allowed to drive trucks, you need a specific license.

I think the different levels of gun violence in the U.S. vs. Europe broadly is more a reflection of culture than policy. Folks resort to using guns in the U.S. a lot more quickly than they do in Europe.

Having said that, I know that you are correct, and some European countries have much stricter gun laws than we have in the U.S. In Romania you can legally own and use a gun, but it isn't easy. But in some European countries getting a gun is much easier. In Switzerland for example I believe all adult men who were in the army are required to own one.

Re: 14 shot dead at movie theater

Gun controls want to be passed because the government doesnt want people that can defend themselves, against that said government OUR founding Fathers gave us the right to bear arms in case another revolution needed to start, I am not saying people should start a revolution NO, but our founding fathers wanted for people to have a change to protect themselves,

now Gun Controls WILL NOT stop this kind of thing from happening, they will only give more power to the criminals and more power to the police, a society that will be completely powerless against both,

criminals mock society's laws, sound familiar, and, is completely true,
gang members, thieves, they all have hundreds of illegal guns at their disposal, is like drugs, if there is a market for it there will be illegal things available, is that simple,

you think because there are gun control laws that Guns will Stop being made? stop being sold? is that what people think?

the police cannot be everywhere at once, they are too busy catching old men masturbating in movie theaters, or giving out tickets to cars going over the speed limit,

they cannot protect all of us, this tragedy proves it,

Yeah mate, unfortunately it has become part of US culture. And now a very difficult and complex issue to overcome.

It worked so well with prohibition and is working so well with the drug war. :nana:

Re: 14 shot dead at movie theater

Could be a cultural thing. There are crazies everywhere and Europe is certainly more lax with some things, but the way they are presented and taught to children can make all the difference. For instance, painting something as taboo without giving a reason why can lead to unwanted curiousity. Whereas being more liberal about it, cautioning yet not being afraid to explain what the mysterious act/subject is, might be safer in the long run.

This is just an upringing theory that's been brought up dozens of times in dozens of contexts, but there's no doubting the different crime rates. We're all still human. The environment in which we're raised is the only difference.

Re: 14 shot dead at movie theater

I was going to see TDKR today but i've changed my mind,i'm not in the right frame of mind to enjoy what should be for me an amazing cinematic experience

maybe tomorrow..?

:monkey2

I won't be seeing it for some time, I never go to premiers and openings anyways.

Ski

I don't see big premiers on Friday night for this very reason. Not that I'm scared to get attacked, just that those showings seem to bring out the crazies. Of course this is an extreme case of that.

I never go fridays ever, Resident evil taught me a very important lesson, A##Holes go to the movies opening weekend, that's a fact

It's not a ridiculous analogy. I can get a uhaul easier than I can a firearm. Could I not use a Uhaul to murder a bunch of people? You can't rent a U-haul truck in your country? I can with a valid drivers license, no special license required. The whole point is blame the individual not the implement.

Prometheus was quite peaceful opening day. Then again I went at around 2 in the afternoon so there weren't too many people.

Love the sarcasm, and it's quite the truth. Criminals will find ways to circumvent applicable gun laws and obtain firearms illegally, even through the black market.

What about when a man entered a day care with a knife and started stabbing workers and the children. Does that raise awareness of knife control?

You can go into Wal Mart and grab a cutlery set right off a shelf in an aisle and start stabbing people. Heck, you could walk over to sporting goods and grab a baseball bat and just cave a random strangers head in.

Almost anything can be deadly in the wrong persons hands.

I don't know what his motive was, but he did succeed in many ways...Besides killing and injuring innocent people, he's got EVERYBODY talking about him. He didn't resist arrest, so I'm sure in his sick mind he's savoring all the attention.
