sure, you learn from your father (like I did) or someone who knows the weapons...not 'force' someone to go through 60 hrs training just to own a gun or be allowed to use one...:cuckoo:

your right, you're liberal minded,so I am done talking to you aswell

You said in your post u don't need training. Nice spin though :clap

The more you read about this guy the less sense this makes. Neuroscience grad student, graduated with honors from UCR (not an easy school) no criminal background.

What causes someone to make such a drastic change?

@VASith:
A background check wouldn't have stopped this guy as he only had a speeding ticket on his record. Mandatory training would've probably raised the death count. Your rules are of no value in this situation.

And this in no way justifies any intrusion into the rights or priveledges of those who are not committing these cruel acts.

Owning pistols and rifles-ok. Owning nuclear weapons-not ok.

Somewhere in between someone is already claiming intrusion.

True. But maybe the fact he wanted to buy so many guns at once might have raised a red flag. Maybe not. Just seems like something we should fix and not shrug our shoulders and say oh well..another mass shooting.

What we need is mandatory psychological screening, paid for by the prospective gun owner. It would not catch everyone, but it would at the very least put up barriers. Quietly and anonymously (in the sense of an impersonal background check) being able to assemble an arsenel is part of the problem.

LOL...despite my strong conviction about the subject. I do see a strong lack of sensibilty in having an A1 Abrams tank in my garage or a nuclear warhead in my basement.

They make too much noise and may wake the neighbors.:)

Seriously, though. I don't think it is that difficult to find a sensible line that can be drawn. So far, it has seemed to me that for the most part...people get unreasonable for no other reason than for the sake of argument.

I am actually OK with the way I inderstand the federal government to have it set up now...if my understanding is accurate.

:lecture And where does it stop? Who defines what a weapon is? A teenager texting and driving could potentially plow through kids in a parking lot. The Canadian driving 180mph on a motorcycle was essentially a missile. If he rear ended someone he would've killed anyone in that vehicle. Knives/scissors?
Exactly, damn near anything can be a weapon.

The loop holes are the problem. Gun shows don't run background checks and don't limit number of guns sold. Some don't require an ID. That's part of the problem. Our gun show down the road from me usually sells 5000 guns over a weekend. Not a single one has a background check.

I have one question, was it true that an infant was killed during this rampage? If so who the ____ takes a child, any child to a midnight showing of any movie?

That is a very ignorant comment. Not all parents work 9-5 jobs or live on that scgedule. A child not yet in school could be up at midnight and have a perfectly healthy sleep routine.

More importantly this sort of killing could happen at any time. In fact mass murderers often target daytime groups because there are more people. People acting like there is some gross irresponsibility in a "midnight" showing are basically looking to blame the victims a little bit.

I agree with Star Puffs about differing life schedules and such. However, bringing infants to any movie is just plain inconsiderate. On par with talking on a cell phone during a movie or kicking the chair of the person in front of you.

:goodpost:

And that insane loophole would be closed long since but for the fervent opposition of the NRA and similar groups.

havent kept up with all the details, but did they say how or what made the suspect stop shooting? and how did the cops apprehend him?

i dont know why these incidents always result in a gun debate. no amount of gun control is going to stop some determined whackjob from getting one. and no liimit to gun laws would have led to its prevention by arming the rest of the people in the theater.

this is a terrible incident that, unfortunately becoming more commonplace. this isnt about guns. this about whatever is causing these people to take this course of action.

now, enough from my soapbox, and prayers be with those in aurora.
