So what is everyone's stance on the use of Photoshop?

I personally have been using it to color correct and soften here and there. I haven't been using it for massive manipulate. I dont even use it for filters. I'm still not sure on how it can be used in the scope of this contest.

I would err on the side of caution and wait for Rainman himself to pipe in. You wouldn't want to be disqualified if he doesn't allow it. My guess is he will, since he uses PS himself on his site. But my selfish hope is that he doesn't, because otherwise my pics will have very little chance of winning me anything (probably going to be the case anyway, but. . . :lol ).

I would assume though that you can use some subtle props or things such as different hands etc. than the figure came with. Or a backdrop/

As for photoshop I heard "creativity" welcome.

I'm of course going to shoot digital, it's how I shoot. And I use photoshop for basic color balance etc I've used it for subtle atmospheric effects before but I'm going super classic on this no tricks other than photographers tricks, gels, light cards and i will most likely be shooting on a couple environments i print out as backdrops.

I want to really compose these shots and not rely on photoshop too much other than basics as it always looks more authentic that way. it's the thought and consideration that will speak for the compositions. But that's my style.

In my opinion a "photo contest" this day and age has to be with the times. Neo for example as a style and that's his art form, its got some photoshop but it's executed well and that's what counts. He's producing photos is he not? Annie Leibovitz, David Lachapelle, Solve Sundsbo... these are some of the most renowned and distinguished photographers in the world and a lot of what they produce replies heavily on not only photoshop but effects, makeup and traditional fine art.

Then you got some guys who are still shooting on Polaroid and won't touch a digital camera. Expression taste and style cannot be feigned, whatever tools you use to do the job well and express your unique style and art form is your call in my opinion.

I would also assume that a figure made from a "head/outfit" set would be acceptable, which would at least necessitate hands provided by the customer.

One thing about Rainman is that he seems like a pretty easy going guy, and he seems to genuinely encourage creativity. This contest seems to be a means of expressing appreciation and love of his work, and putting rules in place that got in the way of that would seem to fly in the face of some of that. So again, my guess would be that all of this could be on the table. But these are all assumptions.

Head/outfit set I'm totally sure is cool... A RM head only well, I was a little iffy about at first but upon reflection I don't see why not, but if I was the one submitting I'd focus on beautiful portraits primarily, the focus should be on Rainman's work probably but I don't think it would get a slap on the wrist either way but I'd personally play it safe if I was the one submitting something that was bashed but using one of RM's heads.

I'm just using some basic photo manipulation off an iPhone photo app! All the material used is my own though.

I think the point 3 that talks about only containing Rainman figures on the photo does not mean you cant use props etc. It's just that it means you can't say shoot Rainman's Angel eyes next to Velvet Mourning's Blondie. Or Rainman's Stansfield with Enterbay's Leon.

But you could definitely shoot Marla next to the narrator. Or do a Bill the Butcher vs. Daniel Plainview photo. As long as it's only Rainman figures in the shot.

Before someone asks, obviously I'm not Rainman and I don't know for sure, but I personally my opinion is that I would avoid shooting the Rainman imimime sculpted figures as well.

I did not interpret it that way, and in seriousness was planning on doing a mix of Rainman and Hot Toys figures. But you could be right when he says "only."
