Green´s technique was all wrong,he had plenty of time to go down and and safely catch the ball into his chest, the problem was that he didn`t have his body behind the ball coming at him,so he had to stretch his arms down to the right and with such a hard shot it`s a big risk to trust your arms, same way you see goalkeeper punch out the ball sometimes when they understand the shot is too hard and you´re not positioning right.
I have been a Goalkeeper myself for 12 years, since i was 10 and quit playing seriously when i was 22 so i can safely say that it was Green´s technique that failed, nothing to do with the ball.

I'm not disagreeing that his technique was wrong, but at altitude, the ball does swerve more than at sea level which may have put him off guard. After looking at the goal again, it looks like the ball bounces just before he tried to save it but still, at that level, mistake like that shouldn't be made.

...and I am betting on England to beat Spain in the final... we need James...:gah:

..all this talk of technique etc...Wow, talk about "armchair quarterbacks" " I was a goalie when...,blah, blah, blah" Ever play in front of 80K, and millions, maybe billions of people before...pure presure? Me neither! Tie game..MOVE ON.

This group is dead before the quarters, MMW

I feel bad for that Green dude. He's such a n00b.

The only way I see that he can redeem himself is if England takes the whole thing home.

its too early to tell at this stage. anyway, he's lucky not playing for Columbia.(RIP Escobar, 1994 world cup) :monkey3

The poms always find a way to stuff themselves up but usually it's in the later knockout rounds when there's no coming back so it could actually turn out to be a good thing. :lol

The result is not such a huge shock as some have said considering their rankings are 8 and 14 respectively although you cant read too much into that especially considering Koreas result against the Greeks. I would think both England and the US will go through but we will see.

Also there is no such thing as a tie in football.......just thought i'd let you know.:nana:

Oh man, they keep showing the fumble over and over again on tv, it doesnt get any easier :lol Heres hoping for a draw for algeria and slovenia. There is some good to come out of it I guess, we played better than we have for a long time and it was a player error and not being crap that lost us the 3 points.

england will qualify from the group though, ridiculous to think otherwise but it won't be as easy as some predicted

Great game! Sucks about Greens mistake but that happens. Tim Howard is a STUD. He was a beast in goal and was rightly declared man of the match. After this result I like USA's chances to move out of the group.

Algeria are a pretty good team and were in the final of the African nation cup

They weren't in the final, but they did beat the African Cup of Nations Egypt in the play-offs to get here.

I think the first match of the day will be close, maybe a draw or I think a 1-0 win to Algeria. The second match between Ghana and Serbia will be close as well, and I'll keep a close eye on that (since I'm an Aussie) and the third match will be an easy win to us. :D But seriously, I'd love for us to win since the Germans have been cocky in the press all week and a win would shut them up. However, I think a draw is a much more realistic result for us.

yeah you're right, it was the semis and they got 3 men red carded :lol

The BBC commentary team are a disgrace. The lack of respect for Slovenia and Algeria at the moment is staggering

Oh yeah for sure, the ball might have some effect but a good goalie would easily catch that ball.

Now off to watch Algerie-Slovenia...
