(I assume this is ok, Dave...let me know...)

I just wanted to start another thread about this project, as I am starting to draw up ideas for what I am calling the B3 (Breaching Bruce Bust) 1/6 scale project. That way, we can refer to it outside here as B3 only and not give away anything.

You all know the image, Bruce's head up out of the water, ala the harpoon shot, or the end Orca jump, so that is the goal for now.
Something like this:

B3projectimage.jpg

Harpoon not to be included... Dorsal fin a maybe, depending on base...

Being that this will be a total job for me alone, sculpting it, molding it, casting them, building and painting them, adding teeth (because they won't mold well in place at this scale) and finalizing and shipping them to all that want one, I will need not only time, but development time and some front money. I will need to buy all sculpting and molding material, and casting material, and for this size a project, a bit more paint and glue. Then there is my time in it all to consider of course.

My goal, not an absolute, but my goal is to have sketched plans posted here by Mid Feb, and a sculpt by the end of March. That would allow for molding and casting in April and paints starting then, along with teeth and, if needed, bases.

At the moment, I am favoring the idea of a non-base head, with a flattened base diameter of approximately 7 to 8 inches or so, head weighted and leaning forward, mouth open, as if sticking up out of the water, mouth open. Something that could actually fit on the same shelves as our 12" Jaws cast members when displayed on bases.

If you add a "water surface" base to the shark head, you enlarge the shelf area needed, that is not an impossible addition, but, it would be a seperate part of the project regardless, sculpting and castingwise. Something that might could be added later on.
I was thinking blue tinted, clear type resin or plastic. Like a cup and saucer, you could fit and rest the finished head into the water tray base. It might even can have an engraved plate. All that is secondary to the head itself in my mind.

As for costs, I am sure this will be a sort of Flexpay type deal, as it will run up there in costs. Minimum would probably be around $300 and possibly more, but that depends on access to materials, and time and what else I cannot to do to this. I am sure this will be a VERY limited piece, ten would be a large run in this case. I know I cannot promise more than that, without totally stopping all outside headpaints and other works in this period, for a protracted time. So, for now, ten is the limit in my mind (and those in waves of fewer at at time of course). Again, not an absolute.

I am thinking of having them all done by July 4th, 2008. Seems like a good goal. But, that is ONLY a goal for now.

Anyway, discuss. And please, keep this to our group only and no outsiders. Thanks.

OK, I succumbed.
I started another thread about the shark head bust. Hope you're happy Greg!

Well, I think you know that I am in for this, Les. :) And yes, VERY happy, Chief. Very happy!

BASE: I kinda like the idea of 'no base' -- just the head. That way you could out it ona mirrored surface or whatever and have the figures stand as close as you want. With a base, it extends the footprint and it also makes it more "finished", like a statue -- which I know some will like that -- but I prefer the simple head that seems to be lurching up straight out of the shelf!

That's my vote.

I'm deeply intrigued, Les! I know this will be a labor of love for you, and I'd like to ffer my support. Hopefully, once you start producing them, I'll have a nice cushy contract on Broadway or something so I can get one! Finally, the chance to have a Figuremaster original!!

Excellent idea and truly appreciated.

I think the "baseless" B3 would be best because it would allow for a smaller footprint on shelves and for those that want to add a base themselves, the option to do so.

Price may be too steep for me, honestly, but perhaps I can afford it later down the road.

Seriously though, you have to consider the sheer size of this piece. It's like Jabba-sized! And like Jabba, it's the key to the movie -- it's JAWS!

My guessimate is that the head will rise almost to the figure's height (10-12") and the width at the base will be, as Les stated, about 8" thick. That's massive. And although the shark's head may seem simple, it's the detail in the mouth, and those crooked teeth, that will be sheer hell I'm sure. Maybe blood and chunks you can add later.

Imagine: your Hooper, Brody, Quint, all decked with gear, standing next to a barrel... and Bruce's huge head lurching up at them!

You can recreate the "Chum" scene with Brody, or the "Outta my way" scene, or the "you let that go or you'll loose your hands" scene, or Brody on the mast, or Quint's demise... It's just a classic pose -- like the poster itself -- the shark's head rearing up out of the water, mouth gaping, teeth bared, black eyes roll over white...

You could even put a little Kintner boy with raft in his mouth...or the estuary victim!

For me, this is must have. It's not background... it's a character!

Oh yeah.... I'm in... somehow I MUST be in. :rock

And I am down with the baseless idea... That way I can just make my own base, paint this baby up and have it on the shelf.

I know Les will knock this out of the park, he's the JAWS MASTA! :bow

Thanks guys. I am doing sketches for posting here soon, and will try to have a better idea of what it will be as a finished piece soon.
Nice to see the enthusiasm for this. I hope it will be a worthy addition to our sets of figures.

I can't wait to see those sketches!

If you can add a Quint-sized silhouette next to Bruce that would really help give people an idea of the monstrous scale of this piece.

It's funny, some shots made Bruce look massive, others made him look much smaller, the shot from Brody's POV when the shark first thrashes Quint around in his mouth really makes the shark look smaller, but the shots with Hooper in the cage with him made it look gigantic.

I can't wait to see what you come up with Les! I'm not sure I'm in or out yet, but I'm sure there is time to decide.

Looks pretty big to me. I wouldn't want to fall into that...

Yes he does, BUT, look at this shot of him eating Quint. Maybe I'm crazy, but he just seems smaller compare to a human with Quint in his mouth than he does when attacking Brody.

Oh I agree, no matter what, wouldn't want to be in that mouth.

This shark...will swallow ya whole...little shakin'...little tenderizin'....down ya go :)

So beautiful, man I'm being reminded of how excited I got when Sideshow premiered the maquette.

See, he looks huge in that angle, even if the mouth was closed, he somehow looks like 10-20% bigger than the picture I posted. It's all good though, whatever hte size, a 1/6 of his head will be the coolest.
