I have neither the skill nor the desire to customize. If that means I have to pay more to get top quality straight out of the box, so be it. If you wanna dance, you gotta pay the band.
I won't argue this point, I just think its sad that those without said skill are the ones who get the shaft.....
I'm not saying the Zizzle one is BETTER, I'm saying it can be MADE Better.....I think the head sculpt is definitely better (more neutral, less of a menacing stare, and it's got more 'Depp' in it).....but it definitely needs paint to make it better.....
but, anything that can be done to a Zizzle can also be done to a Medicom, and we're back at square one.....
in any case, I've set the bar here, and I hope I'm equal to the task.......I want my custom to be the be-all, end-all of Jack Sparrow 1/6th scale figures.....

I would like to see some of your work, can you post some of your custom figures so we can all see what a great customizer you are?
Are you serious about buying the Neca to cast the weapons and returning him??? That's just wrong!!!
Also, no one is knocking the Zizzle figure. But you get what you paid for. You can't compare a Honda to a BMW.
With the amount of effort you are putting in to make your Jack, you would probably save money, not to mention time, by just buying the Medicom version.
Also, if you are customizing your Jack, why buy the Zizzle? Why not just buy the Neca, use it's head which is a lot better than Zizzle's, and sew the clothes??
My Custom Jack is in Les's thread......
first pic is natural light, second is with the flash, which kinda brings out all the flaws, etc.
I'm pleased with it, and am trying to bring it closer to what Les has done.....and even further in some areas.......
insofar as casting the NECA Weapons and returning him, that's not 'wrong', it's not like I'm hurting it any........I know some people have an aversion to this tactic......but if I were gonna do it, I would pay my money for the figure, cast the weapons, RETURN said weapons to the box, and sell the figure on ebay.......
the casting process doesn't damage the product in any way.....
I could just as easily borrow them from someone.......
comparing it to cars:
I guess it's like the people who buy Hondas, and then tune them, and buy body kits for them, to make them fast, and sporty.....
in the long run, yeah, you're paying as much as a BMW on parts, etc., and you might as well have bought the BMW in the first place......
but the fun isn't in just saving and having a car at the end, the fun is in taking something that may not be all that great, and doing something great with it........
yeah, underneath, it's still a Honda/Zizzle, but it's not what's underneath, but what you brought out of it, that makes it better.......
I like the Zizzle head, it will become apparent, soon, why........
who knows, I might just plop down the money for the Medicom one eventually, but I really like the Zizzle one, and the potential therein, and if I were to buy a Medicom, I'd rather buy something like the Rocketeer, which is a character I can't get elsewhere.....
the costume on the Zizzle isn't bad, it's better than most figures at this scale, and I feel is ALMOST as good as the Medicom one........
