360 or PS3??

These kinds of things always happen. Has everyone forgotten the Xbox 360 release or even PS2. Sony is not going to loose fans because they can not get enough systems out in time. It will be a great system just like the Wii and the Xbox 360. A lot of people will miss out this Friday but that is just part of the game. When the 360 was released it was not even in a race between another company and they still had a huge shortage issue. So far shortages on release dates go hand to hand. The Wii may be the first system to transcend this trend, I guess we will see.

When Microsoft's Xbox 360 was released almost a year ago, one of the knocks on the system was that it wasn't fully backward compatible with original Xbox games. The 360, which uses a different CPU and GPU from the original Xbox, can play some Xbox games through software emulation. However, the emulation has so far only been applied to a few hundred titles.

Sony, too, had planned to go the backward-compatibility route. To avoid the emulation pitfalls encountered by Microsoft, the company put PlayStation and PlayStation 2 hardware inside the PlayStation 3. However, it appears that even this approach to backward compatibility is having its problems.

On its Japanese Web site, the electronics giant has said that some issues are arising when attempting to run certain PlayStation and PS2 games on the PS3, according to Bloomberg. Sony has not stated how many games are being affected, but Reuters claims approximately 200 games in the PS and PS2 catalog have some issues.

A Sony spokesperson told GameSpot, "We are aware that a select number of titles have compatibility issues but these problems will be fixed with a software upgrade that will be available in the near future."

A Web site has been set up for Japanese users to see which games have compatibility issues and which may not work due to other problems. Titles with problems include Final Fantasy XI, Silent Hill 2, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, and Tekken 5.

The console was released in Japan on November 11 and promptly sold out. Sony will have approximately 400,000 PS3s available for the system's North American launch this Friday, and the company expects the backward-compatibility issue to also affect those units.

Just keeps getting better and better :rotfl

I don't have the cash to dump on the PS3.... it looks fantastic as Hell, but I'm still trying to save enough for the 360. :lol

I'll probably end up getting one in 2 years or something... :monkey2

The X-Box 360 is a really decent gaming system. I have yet to see or play the PS3 so I'm going to save my opinion until I try out the PS3. But as of now, I gotta say the 360 on that alone....I had a fun time playing Fight Night and Tiger Wood's Golf on the 360...

Ok so I just went to Best Buy and there are people camping out already. I also tried the PS3 and have to say that I am not impressed. Very long load times and not stunning game play. I played some racing game. Sorry for the lack of details(title), people were waiting behind me to try so I just played the game very briefly.

Man, I'm crappin' bricks over here since my Gamestop hasn't called me yet to tell me my fate...:monkey2

This sucks, if I don't get one, I'll feel like my PS3 is going to be given to some damn scalper:monkey2

Doesn't help that I already bought 2 games for the PS3... Resistance and Marvel:UA:monkey2

That is exactly where it will go, to a scalper. I bet only a very small percentage of PS3s purchased at retail price will go to gamers.

Well, in Japan the tie-in ratio of software to Playstion 3 sales was 0.98 - less than one game per console.

So most likely yes, most are going to scalpers (or perhaps to people whom want it just as a blu-ray player, but kinda doubt that).

It will be interesting to see what the ratio will be in the US.

On a similar note, the Xbox 360 had a tie-in ratio of 3.9 in the US at launch.

I would be selling mine if I got one at launch.. if somebody is stupid enough to give me $1500 its all theirs.

I am kind of glad that I wasn't able to preorder one at Gamestop, since they announced that they won't be getting enough to cover the ones that were pre-sold that day. I had a friend who preordered a 360 last year from Blockbuster and was told at launch that he wouldn't be getting one right away. Opportunities came to get one elsewhere, but Blockbuster wouldn't refund the deposit. I will just hold on to my money until I can get one off the shelf. When I get it, I will take it out of the box and set it next to my Boba Fett PF.

That would be "Motorstorm" (I played the Best Buy demo station too).

Personally, the graphics blew me away and seem better than what I've seen on the 360...but that could just be the HDTVs that each were connected too. But I wholeheartedly agree with the atrocious loading time on the PS3.

And nothing that I experienced justifies the hefty price-tag IMO.

Thank you for agreeing on the load times. You would think in this generation of gaming consoles that we would be able to do away with these atrocious load times. They probably should have been demonstrating the blu ray player instead.

For those whom got a call from GameStop, here is why:

https://www.gamespot.com/news/6161580.html

Looks like it is the employees trying to save their preorder.

Employees always get first shot at the pre-orders. I think they get the first 4 and then they go to customers. Gamestop's trying to get them into the hands of customers (who are unfortunately more likely to flip than the employees).

There were 4 people camped outside Circuit City this morning and lucky for them its been POOOOOOORING rain all day long and is supposed to continue for the next 4 days, hope they don't float away. :D

Of course it's raining, you live in Seattle :) But yea, the best buy by me had a sign up saying they won't let anybody camp out until 24 hours of release. tomorrow afternoon is the earliest i can get over there, hope it's early enough.
