A new HT line based on real people?

Yea, that's what I said - as long as they don't mention the character or film, the studio may let it slide. It also helps if they already have a relationship with a studio (like Sideshow does with Universal who I believe own the rights to the Rooster Cogburn movies these days).

For what it's worth, that Japanese article posted earlier stated all three... the actor's name, the movie title, and his character's name! It also referred to it as "cowboy" figure, so maybe that's what it will end up being called as the final product... guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for the clarification Mudshark... so maybe they are going for fully licensed figures. That could mean some really great things :rock

I'm thinking now that a 50's "Icon" series is a good bet--that could cover a lot of pop culture ground and the rights may be easier to obtain. I'd love a Wild One Johnny Strabler on his Triumph!

I still think a Smooth Criminal and Thriller Michael Jackson would be huge sellers,i would for sure buy those!

It's not about the sports, it's about the uniforms. A guy in shorts isn't nearly as visually interesting as the uniforms in American football or hockey. Make a great looking goalie and I wouldn't care who it was, because I'd be buying it just for the equipment.

I will say a MLB catcher would be cool as well, because of the cool face mask and pads...Not to mention that Baseball is way more popular over there than here...

Soccer players would have to be all about the facesculpt and finding a way to hide the joints.

Official Hot Toys Famous Celebrities/Icons line...

I just spotted this over at OSW. This is that new HT line base of Celebrities and not nessessarily based of a Movie, it's more about the person... So I hear.

The first one is James Dean and it looks great. I think this line will be great. Can't wait to see who else is in the cards!

Re: Official Hot Toys Famous Celebrities/Icons line...

I want to know is how Hot Toys is able to make Davy Jones and James Dean hold pipes and cigarettes in their mouths without an alternate sculpt or hole. Just a bit rubbery I guess?

Re: Official Hot Toys Famous Celebrities/Icons line...

It looks good. I'd like to see how the hat looks pushed up on his head. I think he wore it a lot like that in Giant.

I'd rather have my James Dean in his Rebel garb. Not the gay cowboy.

Thats what I was saying, him in Rebel would be my first pick, red jacket, blue jeans! That would be cool, well I guess you could easily make that custom though.

Re: Official Hot Toys Famous Celebrities/Icons line...

This looks to be a great line. Dean looks very well done. I'm sure HT will be doing multiple variants on all these figures eventually so I'd hold off on customizing anything right now.

Re: Official Hot Toys Famous Celebrities/Icons line...

Not that Dean isn't a great figure, but.... enough with him already. We know he's coming. Who's next? That's what I want to see!!

Re: Official Hot Toys Famous Celebrities/Icons line...

What I would really like is for SST to take notice as to how to tailor clothes.

Re: Official Hot Toys Famous Celebrities/Icons line...

I guess this is more official than this....

See post 63

It has to be more official, the pics are bigger.

Yay! Thanks for giving me credit! :lol

Anyway, I guess they're releasing this figure first to see how the response would be like for this "famous person" line.

Someone mentioned a Bruce Lee, I'd like to see how that would be if Hot Toys made one. There already is a Medicom version and the awesome Enterbay versions.

Maybe Bruce in bell bottom jeans, flower power shirt and superlarge aviator sunglasses or something? :D

But if they're going by what the translation said, the 50s theme - then there wouldn't be a Bruce Lee. He would have been aged about 20 tops, if it were the case.

Maybe they're going for a 50s theme, followed by 60s, etc.....

Definitely. At present it seems to me like SSC put all their effort into the headsculpts and treat the tailoring as something of an afterthought.
This latest line from Hot Toys has great potential, especially if they can secure the image rights to celebrities that have never been done before in 1/6 scale.

Re: Official Hot Toys Famous Celebrities/Icons line...

I guess it's not real hair - looks great though!

Sideshow's tailoring has improved leaps and bounds over what it once was. Compare the X-Files Muldur to X-Files Robert Patrick or CSM or Skinner. They're all wearing suits, but the later ones are a huge improvement. I think it may be the body that makes it look like the SSC tailoring isn't as good as HTs. And that's going to change soon enough...
