Does this really not look like Piett?

PiettFUTZED2.jpg

Maybe it's the skin tone and lips. Maybe he should be more pale and strung-out looking. A repaint would really bring him out I think.

I think an alternate position for the eyes might change things too, maybe a dark wash to help define the eye sockets even when they're brightly lit.

The thing I find about likeness and lighting with Piett is that I always think of his face as sick and unhealthy looking with his eye bags and all, and I find under some lighting, those features don't stand out as much and the portrait looks healthier than the actor.

What? Sean I don't understand a thing you just said. :lol

What I meant is, you see a likeness already in the Piett portrait and just think some of the shape of his face could stand changing.

I think that the people saying now that it looks nothing like him aren't going to be swayed by a change in the shape of his face and that there's more to changing their minds than that.

I agree. He seemed nervous and strung-out in ESB, like he just got back from yacking in the bathroom and then washed his face and straightened up to play admiral.

He and Toht both suffer from too even a skin tone, with a healthy, even color.

He'd look better if his face was the color of his neck post.

Who's trying to sway anyone? I was just stating my opinion of why the likeness was off. Nothing more. Nothing less. Which is why I don't understand why you followed it up with a response which said "well that's not we what we are saying". Just kind of fishing around for what your point really was.

Yeah, mine arrived with a broken hip joint. The left leg was loose in the clothing. I tried swapping the clothes onto a Soldier Story S2, but the shoulders are too wide. Unfortunately, the tailoring is very specific for the Pro, so I need to wait for a replacement.

I'm just not seeing Piett there. There is a slight resemblance, though. There's also the fact that we know it's supposed to be Piett, that does help it.

I think the problem may be that the face appears to be stretched vertically. If it was more oval and less "long", I think it would look much closer to the actor. The paint apps appear to be ok, but I think a repaint will definitely help in bringing out the resemblance.

Are you keeping notes Sean? Here is another who thinks the same as me. :D

You and I have huge failures on communication :lol

I'm not saying your trying to sway anyone, I'm not trying to sway anyone.

We were talking about the likeness coming out of the sculpt and you made the comment about how you felt it would be better if the shape of his face were different.

I feel that the greater reason likeness may not seem so apparent at times is because of the lighting on the face and how it shows or doesn't show the definining features of it.

My comment was that I believe a greater ammount of people here not seeing a likeness in this portrait is because it's often not lit in a way to highlight those features and that no fixing of the face shape is going to correct that issue and therefore if that were done some folks would still feel it was off versus having the features that define his face in the eye/nose/mouth area better defined under a greater variety of lighting conditions.

Your comment came across to me like "Well most people agree with me that "x" is the reason why the sculpt is off" which sounded kind of superfluous and pubescent to what I was just stating as my opinion.

Anyhoo....... Piett just went back in his box for hibernation.

Nope, just counter opinioning :) All clear now.

As for your other comment, I didn't know Pietts were a hybernating species :lol

The ill-fated Admiral showed up north today...

Here's a quick one...

Some random thoughts (hey, I'm beat...these figures always seem to show up on days where I'm slammed at work:))...

They really tailored this uniform for the Pro...fits and futzes well...except, I do not like the material for the boots this time....too soft. The legs on this body are a little loose, so getting him in a good, unassisted pose is a little tough.

I like how the head sculpt features "hat hair"...it does help keep the hat in place. Like the option of bare and gloved hands, but I'll probably stick with the gloves for display. Also really like the uniform color...looks perfect.

The sculpt works for me (especially under dramatic lighting), but I'm with those who think the skin tone's a bit too "healthy" looking on him...hey, all those Admirals were just a bunch of pasty-looking English guys who looked like they never got any sun! :lol

It is great having another sharp looking Imperial on the shelf...I'll tryn' get some more shots over the weekend...
