I'd love to get my hands on the Watchmen and Beetlejuice ones (preferably the variants), someday. Of course, not until I get my hands on that Jock TDK Trilogy variant from SDCC. One a these days, folks; one a these days.:lol

You talking about the villain variant?

I won that. :)

I'm kind of confused on the Alamo Drafthouse, Mondo print/poster thing. It doesn't help when seller's put that and other names in their sale threads.

In any case, if this is the wrong thread, please let me know. I don't know for sure what/where these prints are coming from. I just know that they are heading my way.

At least one orange matte for the Queen. Should I have more than one matte? If so, what colors? What color should the frame be?

No idea what to use for a matte color, how many mattes, but the frame should be art deco? Or would an art deco frame take too much away from the print?

Franky's print has a ton of red. What to do with this one? I don't know where to even begin.

ONEYE - Framing is definitely a personal taste thing. The thing you need to remember is the more mattes you add, the bigger the dimensions the frame will be and the more costly it will be. It does not take long at all to spend $500 on a 24 X 36 print if you want to give it the spa treatment.

What I would suggest to you is do a google search for online custom framing. There are quite a few sites like pictureframes.com and others where you can upload a picture of your art that you want framed to their website. You can then go through and choose various frames, add in 1-3 mattes to figure out what looks good to you. Not saying you need to order from them, but once you have an idea of what you like you can then head to the framers and it will be a little easier to decide. Plus depending on who you go to for the framing they may be able to order the same frame you looked at online.

Lastly, research framers in your area or see if there are reviews of any local framers online. Don't force yourself to go to michaels, hobby lobby etc because you have a coupon. Your local framers cost will be probably right around the same price, plus you are probably only dealing with the owner. They want your business so you have a better chance of getting a good quality job done.

I am no framing expert by any means, but if you have any other questions feel free to pm if you wish. I'm going to attempt to frame my own print next time I get some extra cash.

I saw this one for the frank on another site and really liked it:

I think a matte can look fabulous. However, I dislike spending extra when I have so many prints filtering in and out, so I keep it matteless.

Here are a few more photos of the gallery, and one in hand:

Yeah, that is another thing, if your thinking of going ***** out framing something, make sure it is something you plan on keeping for a loooong time. It makes no sense to drop a load of cash on a frame up that you might not want on your walls 5 years from now.

If you're unsure of one, like the alien print, try to see if it would fit in a standard size frame for now and then if you decide you really like it, then you can get something more permanent.

But a matte can help in preservation of prints, and especially original artwork. The matte will keep the print pulled back from the glass, so you will not have any fear of transfer of ink from the paper print to the glass, especially in higher humidity areas. If you don't use a matte, there are spacers which can be used in the better frames which stay between the glass and the print at the far edges behind the framed edge.

I'm guilty myself though. I don't take the precautions with my small collection of lithos. Original art, sure. None of that touches glass, all gets the custom treatment, and extra UV protection glass too. But the poor lithos just get thrown into a pre-made Michael's frame with 'el cheapo glass...

Just some thoughts. :D

I agree. And I can say that from first hand experience because it's happened to me. Given the right conditions, the print can/will get damaged. Spend the extra 'change' for acid-free matting, at the very least. (Spacers work too, but I'm just not a fan of them.)

praxitas,
Thanks for the help! I've decided to wait until I pick up a nice Dracula (classic), and Creature from the Black Lagoon print. I may frame those all the same with mattes that are appropriate to the colors of the print.

BuffyGirl - Very nice! The American Werewolf in London print is cool!
