This is very strange dude, I've noticed that Hicks comes with a lot of Hudsons gear and Hudson with Hicks....

Sorry, this quote just calls for it:

"Hudson sir, He's Hicks!"

I'm so friggin' proud of myself with this one, my first re-paint! I don't remember how it got so dark under the eyes (was that the factory paint app?) but I left it like that for the general impression of Weaver's face. I used both Liquitex and Delta Ceramcoat acrylics.
Regarding the jacket, Weaver starts off with a one-piece jumpsuit that magically splits in two for the queen battle. The costume's front zipper apparently continues way below the velcro flap. For my figure I found it easier to leave the jacket above the pants.

I'm glad people are sorting out all the details of who gets what before I build my marines. So far, I've only completed Vasquez and Apone... I'm so glad I waited on Hicks now so I can use the appropriate Hudson stuff for him.

Just need my heads painted and I'm ready. I'd like to weather the gear a bit too. A bit of brushed silver on the knee-guards, maybe a "dirty" wash on the armor and clothing...

Josh, any simple tips or recommendations on how I can get the clothing and armor to look "used".

Also, anybody have any pics of Drake yet?

Since it's clear now that Hudson's headsculpt is the Stoner face that is esentially Hicks with the correct repaint, Hudson is definitely an alternative to hunting down an actual Hicks figure. The only problems you will face is the custom name and designs (lockpad) on the body armor, helmet, and shogun/holster.

Hicks doesnt even have a pistol in the movie.

No problem, I can just build the Hudson body with the Hicks gear. And for Hicks, I'll just leave the pistol off his gear. Also need to figure out how to switch the knife around to the other side. I'll probably search through my supplies for a better knife with black sheath, or use black tape to make it so.

Now finding a good Hudson sculpt, that's the trick. Come on, Lonnie.

Great work SP! And awesome shots, as always. So glad you got her where you wanted and your first repaint! Way to go. I think alot of collectors may try this too. I'll pose her in the bomber jacket with T under. Tell me, did you just repaint her hair, eyebrows and eyes or was it a wholesale repaint?

Great repaint Super! Is that the "Relic Hunter" Indiana Jones jacket on your Ripley?

Maybe we should keep a running tally of things to do when assembling our Aliens Marines?

BUILD NOTES: HICKS

1. Hudson helmet band to Hicks.
2. Hicks' knife switched to other side (use Gerber MKII combat knife)
3. Hudson "Stoner" head should be used as Hicks.
4. Hicks has no pistol.

Anybody who has additional recommendations or suggestions can add to the list. This way, it easier than everyone searching through this 2400 post thread for answers or asking questions that have been asked multiple times.

Just a thought anyway.

Anyone wanna buy my Ripley from me for $100 shipped its mint in box, super mint because the box it shipped in has never been opened.

I paid $99.17 from sideshow and I'm only asking for $100 shipped via USPS priority 2-3 day w/ delivery confirmation.

By the way, the flickr-mandated links on my Ripley photos are now corrected.

I was actually surpised by how well the factory skin tones looked initially, so I left that alone. For the rest I just covered over the old paint (no stripping or priming). First thing I corrected were the lips. I used a recipe of medium fleshtone, deep violet (for color) and burnt umber (for depth). Later comparison shown it was a tad too purple so I went back in with a wash of fleshtone + red ochre.
After scrubbing off the eyelashes, I painted over the irises in steps with burnt umber, burnt siena and red ochre, in that order. The pupils were dotted back in and I gave the eye whites a wash of red ochre, then sealed it all with gloss varnish.
The hair was painted over with straight burnt umber. I thought of drybrushing lighter colors, but it didn't seem necessary with the shadows and highlights. I pointed the eyebrows slightly but left them the same color.

Nah, it's just the recommended A-2 flight jacket that's been mentioned of late. The only thing I don't like about it is the large amount of room that puffs out in back, which seems fine for a heavy jacket. But Weaver looked like she wore something substantially thinner (less hefty).

Wor-Gar...to answer the clothing question... just soak them in a brownish black solution of paint and water... Think coffee consistency...

Dip them in that and then wring out the material. It should soak in a good bit of the paint and make it darker.

If you want a more faded worn out version... you can either run a dull knife over it for a while until it loses some of it's vibrant color... or drybrush some off white paint lightly on top of that.

As for the armor... washes of brownish black and some silver "dings" should do it. I know I plan that very thing for Hicks and Hudson. Don't know if I will end up doing the knife, unless someone here does it and makes me believe it can be done. :lol

As for the band on the helmet... nearly all of the marines had it, but only a few used it to hold the helmet cover on... ala Hudson... I think he was one of the few that used it.

awesome job superposable!!

dammit, i NEED a hicks! there has got to be SOMEONE here who can help a lowly Aliens fan out... :monkey2

After seeing a couple of your guys awesome Ripley repaints I can't believe how much better they look with the right hair color. Hard to believe the detail that HT does that her hair color is totally off.

Can any of you master painters here give me some tips, I am not as brave as some of you changing things on these collectibles but I think I am going to paint her hair. If I got to the local hobby shop what kind of paint should I get and can anyone recommend a color, if you don't I would just buy black, thats my art experience. :lol

Buy acrylic paint. Most model shops carry Model Masters acrylic. Get Burnt Umber for the hair. Seal with a clear coat.

Dave is exactly right... Model Masters Acryl is the best paint for this work. Burnt Umber is the same color used by the Figuremaster and it's spot on for Ripley. Good luck man! :duff
