Just a small nitpick: I wish they would make the acid splatter when you shoot the Aliens more realistic. Looks cartoony in contrast with the rest of the visuals. Otherwise looks great. Day 1 purchase for a Xeno-freak like myself.

What a terrific demo, I can't wait to play this game.
I too hope they will improve the acid splatter, it's still WIP ^^

Wait do you mean the Gearbox gameplay demo on youtube, or is there a playable demo out yet on xbl/psn?

Interesting demo. But i was really excited about the new AVP game and even loved the demo, then was really let down by the actual game. Really hoping this game lives up to my hopes though.

As much as I'm looking forward to playing this game I think it's going to be a disappointment to Aliens fans. Just a feeling.

Well, the details look great so far, the costumes, weapons, stage sets, movie-like atmosphere, all that stuff. My only major concern is that the gameplay may be too linear, meaning staged events that have little or no variation to them, like in the campaign modes of the recent Aliens vs Predator game.

Adding higher difficulty levels doesn't necessarily make replaying a game that attractive, unless there are some nice rewards to be gained from it besides some more trophies/chievos. Too often there's not much to make you want to play it over & over again, unfortunately.

I personally prefer games that give players more freedom in choosing when, where, and how they go about accomplishing objectives that advance the story. There are plenty of games out there that manage to find a nice balance between scripted events and a certain degree of player freedom. I think the MGS & GTA series are a couple of good examples of this.

Especially in a story touted as a "sequel" to Aliens, there are so many possibilities for exploiting those qualities. I'm cautiously optimistic this game will have that kind of balance. Being able to choose your weapon & equipment loadout, and where to set up the Robot Sentries would also be a major plus, not to mention spilled Xeno blood having a realistic physical effect on the environment.

I will be playing this no matter what, but I'm hopeful it'll exceed my expectations in the gameplay department. Guess we'll just have to wait and see...

I couldn't have said it better myself Mudshark!

Here's to hoping that Gearbox got it right this time, and this is a MUCH better game than ALIEN vs Predator was. I bought the "Hunter's Edition" for it, and played it some, but really not that much. Being a HUGE fan of the ALIENS and Predator stuff, I was really looking forward to a satisfying game.

Hopefully this game will be that game I've been waiting for....like the rest of us!

Delayed to Fall. :(

The game was originally scheduled to ship this coming spring. “Aliens: Colonial Marines is a process of creativity and invention and those don't necessarily follow the structure of an assembly line," SEGA and Gearbox Software said in a statement sent to Game Informer.

"While setting clear goals, deadlines and predictions is helpful, they are often subjective. We don't want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blue print. We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blue print because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritizing this goal over the previously targeted date.”
But new trailer! :D

Actually glad it was delayed, I always play AvP2 in the fall..my favorite season.

And I love the new trailer.

Can't say I didn't expect another delay but I don't take it as a bad thing, even though the wait has become agonizing. Better than rushing it to market if there are still issues that need to be worked on.

Turns out that the game was announced before development had even begun. I'm willing to cut them a little bit of slack now, but I"m still interested in that RPG game that Obsidian was brewing. IMO that could've been pretty cool....I just want to farm colonist knowing from the start that they're face hugger bait.

Despite first being announced by publisher Sega in 2006, development on Aliens: Colonial Marines didn't begin at Gearbox until after the title was revealed to the world.

"Everyone was just so excited that the deal got done," Gearbox President Randy Pitchford told Joystiq at a recent event for the title. "20th Century Fox, Gearbox and Sega all had to agree to do this and commit themselves to it. The fact that that deal even existed -- everyone on the business side was so excited that the deal happened that they just wanted to tell the world. So before we even started on the game they announced the deal."

Because the announcement was made so long ago, many gamers feel the game has been taking an exceptionally long time to come out. "I think there have been a couple of things that have kind of created that feeling. One thing is that it was announced before we were even started. Another thing is that there was an [Alien] RPG game in development by Obsidian which was canceled. And I think when that happened we hadn't even really shown this game or talked about it yet, so that created some confusion of, 'Wait, what was canceled?'"
After failing to meet its original 2008 launch date, rumors of cancellation followed Aliens: Colonial Marines in the wake of Gearbox layoffs. After missing more release windows, Sega re-announced the title for a 2012 launch.

According to Pitchford, perception that Aliens: Colonial Marines has been in development for longer than it has stretches as far back as the previous generation of consoles. "It turns out that in the PlayStation 2 generation somebody had attempted to make an Aliens game and they actually used the 'Colonial Marines' branding," Pitchford said. "We knew that existed, and when we did the deal, 'Colonial Marines' had nothing to do with it, we just knew that the fantasy we were trying to fulfill was being one of these guys, and that we were making a sequel to Aliens. So as we developed that, it is the natural subtitle, it is the natural qualifier to what the promise is, so we decided to just not worry about the fact that there was [another Colonial Marines game] from a long time ago that just went away in prototype. We had nothing to do with that."

When considering its actual development process time, Pitchford says the Aliens: Colonial Marines development cycle is similar to its previous work. "When it ships, it's actually about the same length that we spent developing Borderlands," the company president and CEO admitted.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is expected to launch this fall.
