Pjam was not far from the truth with that last comment! If I were not directly involved with the project and was only waiting like the rest of you for this thing to happen, the only update I'd really be interested in hearing would be, "Hey everybody, the drawings are done!". I can't tell you all how much I am looking forward to that announcement, and I'm sorry to say that it won't be today! This has been a very time consuming and tedious WIP and is going much slower than I had anticipated at the outset, but what I've got so far is looking good. I've studied this weapon so much that I even dream about it, I **** you not. I could sketch it from any angle blindfolded. Well, almost. Anyway, this is an experience I will most definitely never forget!
Here's a progress report, in brief. I received initial specs from Sentry 1 that had to be converted to 1/6 scale first. Then I needed to establish certain key measurements from which the various views (overhead, right & left sides, etc.) of the gun and its components would be drawn. Those needed to be checked for accuracy. The specs I received were not complete, so there have been quite a few blanks that needed to be filled in, using photos and screen grabs for reference. Having the key measurements established has made that somewhat easier. There have been a few problems that needed to be worked out, but so far everything is checking out and there have been no major setbacks... other than not having enough time to devote to getting these finished!!!
I'd been thinking about Chris and what his reaction might be when we finally completed this project. I'm so sorry that he won't be able to see it for himself now. I very much want this unique piece of the Aliens legacy to be one that Chris would not only have thought was just "pretty cool", but one that he would've absolutely
needed to add to the weapons hold of his legendary 1/6 scale scratch-built USCM APC model!!! So to that end, please hang in there for as long as it takes me to post that long awaited final update. I'm honored to be able to do this for us, and deeply grateful for everyone's continued patience.
