Found an article published in an issue of Sci-Fi and Fantasy magazine. It's an interview with Andrew Fletcher and Simon Atherton. The guys who worked on the Sentry Guns for the film. The paragraphs framed in red are related to the guns. Also have the whole article if anyone is interested.

I am excited to hear that Angie is on board to do the guns. I don't mind waiting to get one, or four, depending on the cost of each gun set. I know I said I want four, and I'll keep it at that for right now. But I may have to change it depending on the cost for each gun once we find out from Angie how much they'll cost.

How about someone posting pictures of the sentry guns from the extended edition of ALIENS from the ALIEN Quadriogy DVD set? I would post some screengrabs if I knew how to do that since I have that set. But, I don't. I do know there is a board member on this board that can get screengrabs. I forgot who it was. If they could post them here, or send a PM to pjam with the screengrab pictures from the movie, that would be great references for Angie. How about that?

Some of you guys please read this thread, then comment.

Others members have already gone to great lengths for our benefit by posting info here for all to share. Dekdave has blasted DVD grabs and been thanked for his efforts. And Angie's work has been linked here too, thanks to mookeylama.

Thanks :D

Consider it done... someone, maybe DBoz will make decals for us. Angie will be supplying master kits so I think we'll need some...

PJAM, it would be a good idea to save the images from this thread and email them to Angie rather than just direct her to this page. You never know when these images culd be replaced by a bunch of red X's.

If screen grabs are needed I have over 60 taken of the guns from every shot they are seen in the movie.

However, Im not sure they are really needed by Angie as I got the impression from her email that she has that covered. What she really needs now are schematics and detailed plans. Problem is I dont think any such plans are out there in the public domain though maybe someone or some company involved in Aliens production has them in archive.

Update:

Okay, I heard back from Angie, she is a sculptor/modeler not a caster so her quote only involves her cost to deliver a Master Kit.

From Angie:

My quote is (for) the Sentry Gun buildup since it is such a large project and I know it will take quite a bit of time to complete, this will include the Gun and Tripod, power unit and and the Gridcase computer. it will be in kit format and will consist of several subsections (which I'll work out as I get into the build-up). As mentioned before this does not include having it cast, this is just to produce the masters for casting.

Angie will recommend a caster and hopefully I will get some estimate soon but I don't trust a lot of casters out there so there will have to be some serious dealing going on before I commit to anyone but Angie has recommended chris at EVA and i persoanlly trust him so that is comforting.

Also as this turns out it is a TON of work for me. Basically I'll have to act as a one man toy company handling all facets of this, development, administration, distribution, accounting, shipping... quite frankly I don't even want to think about it right now...

But, I will definitely let you guys know of the cost estimate to provide a resin kit, the first of its kind and probably the best we'll ever see made.

The way I want to handle this is as follows...

Once I have a complete casted kit estimate ready for you and we are ready to roll there will be a final count for all of us. The more we have on board, the more economical it will be for all of us...

You will then have a reasonable period of time to make your final decision. Don't worry about cancelling or changing your orders at this time, that is your prerogative but once the final number is settled you MUST commit to that order and forward a 35% non-refundable deposit to secure your kit. (paypal details to be worked out at an appropriate time). Those who bail after committing to a number will mess it up for the rest of us.

Right now I cannot project a unit cost until a casting estimate is received but based on 50 units (which we now have) I can say it will be quite reasonable, we'll see. Also remember we'll have to paint these ourselves but they look pretty easy, green and black paint and a silver sharpie (for scratch detail) should be all you'll need...

I just wnted to post this comment. I can't imagine anywhere else where I could get a chance to get something like this done. I can not tell you guys how much I appreciate it. I feel like a 5th wheel...but I am volunteering anything I can do to help out. I have looked for pics but found nothing besides what is in this thread. I will keep looking.

And I would suggest that you get a few extra made. I am sure that they will be sought after when others who do not know about this find out. In fact...I might be able to get some extra if it will cut down the cost. Then I will offer them at what we all pay for them to late-comers.

Thanks DC,
We make dreams come true here and believe me this is a rare opportunity for a dream piece like this! You will be in a very exclusive club no doubt...

Yep, I'm fairly certain Chris will be our man...

I'm actually starting to get excited :lol Why?

Because I think we are actually gonna see this made for us. How cool is that, not only the Remote Sentry Gun which will tilt and swivel, but the Power Controller and a Grid Case crafted by one of the best in the World, a very detail oriented highly regarded Artist. I mean, this is gonna be insane, like a 1 of 50 Hot Toys SSF Exclusive. Think about it...That IS Insane

Hey pjam, its great to hear that all your hard work and effort is really moving this project along.

I really appreciate the hard work you have put in so far but I dont envy the work you have ahead of you. Project managing and handling so many aspects of the process does sound quite daunting.Still Im sure everyone here will try and be as helpful and patient as they can during the long and arduous work thats ahead. After all, we all share the same goal of producing and owning the first and best damn Sentry Gun kits ever made right! lol

Its awesome that a group of fans are pooling their ideas, knowladge and talents together to create such a cool kit. If its worth the effort I am willing to dedicate some time trying to create a plan of these guns, though they would not be based on any concrete dimensions or existing schematics since they dont seem available. I would have to work simply by studying the screengrabs and photos of the guns which we have already collected. So it wouldnt be 100% accurate but would look pretty close. Just an idea thats all.

We should try to keep a momentum and interest going on this for sure though. I have abandonded my intended scratchbuild now because I have faith in this project being realized :)

Very much appreciated STENDEC. Let's wait and see what Angie says first... but if you wanna go ahead and and try to provide something we/she can use "be my Guest, Bay 12, please" LOL. She did mention any specs which may be out there would be of great help, but that may be easier said than done...

So, hang on, she may come up with her own, she has plenty of ref material now, actually she's been gathering it for some time...

She also said she will be providing WIP pics, etc so I will be coordinating that whole process with her as well as sharing it here with you all on the thread...

"Affirmative" lol Good one buddy.

Seriously though I do need to curb my enthusiasm on this project lol

I agree that its probably best I hold off making any plans. Angie will probably make a much better set herself anyway I imagine.

"I feel like kind of a fifth wheel around here, is there anything I can do?" ;)lol
