"be my Guest, Bay 12, please" LOL. QUOTE]

"Affirmative" lol Good one buddy.

Seriously though I do need to curb my enthusiasm on this project lol

"I feel like kind of a fifth wheel around here, is there anything I can do?" ;)lol

Yes there is! Heard back from Angie again...

I have a set of accurate dimensions for the gun head and tripod...

So with the ref images and dimensions which I can provide I'm hoping that some enterprising member on the SSF might be able to produce an accurate set of 1/6th scale plans for the SG?

This info is from a privileged source so any sharing of it between one of us and Angie has to kept discreet as far as actual prop dimensions she might provide... but we can do this privately via PMs to get the job done, I just can't post the SG dimensions publicly...

Agree. My ambition would like all 4 but it really comes down to cost. Can Angie give us a rough estimate?

I covered all this in a prior post... on the last page. It's still too early to quote a price without a cast estimate...

I should have a ball park in a few days...

If a schematic is required..it may help (albiet not perfectly) to use the schematics from an MG-42 machine gun. The sentry guns were designed around that weapon.

Likely to be previously mentioned..but I am desparate to help in some way.:)

Oops...never mind...that was the smart guns.

Thanks Reiny, like I said we make dreams come true here... :D

I should have a rough cost estimate in a few days based on 50 units, the more we can hold this number the better for all. Again Angie will prolly get started on the project the first weeks of October so we have plenty of time.

But once we lock in, we got to stay together or the costs will increase BUT I think the cost for one of these will be very reasonable...

pjam: In the meantime any info you can provide to Chris so we can get a ballpark estimate for 50 resin kits would be extremely helpful...

Angie: Fine, give me a day or so and I'll try and do a initial breakdown on the SG and all it's parts and let both you and Chris know my thoughts. I have to say Chris is very good at taking my rough breakdowns and turning them into a best guess costing as this isn't the first forum project we have done together.

For Les when Bob feels better...

pjam: I'll look for help on the forum in a discreet manner. One of our members is friends with Bob burns, the Famous Collector of movie props, etc but I guess you already have dimensions so it may not matter at this point.

Angie: That's great, any plans would certainly make things easier. On the ref's front I work on the old prop/model adage that if you want an accurate model with plenty of detail you can never have too many references, especially ones taken with a decent digital camera, LOL!

So.. if Bob has this prop and can take dig pics of it or provide any useful info, please email me with them and I'll shoot them off to Angie.

This didnt occur to me before now though I have been aware of his website for years: You should contact Harry Harris, the owner of an extensive collection of screen used Aliens prop and has a website showcasing his pieces.

https://www.harryharris.com/cats.htm

A sentry gun is featured on his site but there is only one rather poor photograph of it. I know for a fact that he does not own a Sentry Gun but he might know who does and might be able to provide contact details . . surely worth a shot.

Noted, thanks STENDEC.
A few if you have offered to do schematics with actual dimensions provided by Angie. If so, maybe please post some experience related work so we can figure out who best to do this for us coz I have no clue about this stuff...

Actually, the Sentry Guns were also designed around the MG42.

I drew the image below as an example of how I would approach drawing a schematic/ tech drawing for the guns. Im not sure if this is the type of thing Angie needs but I thought I'd put it out there as an option.

The image I drew only depicts a side view of the main body of the gun because I just wanted to give an idea of what my work would look like. I drew this very quickly without referencing any dimensions so the proportions and scale are not accurate plus I ommited alot of the detail, again just because its a rough example.

The image is quite large in size because it needs to translate to 1/6 scale whn printed out and since it is drawn as a vector graphics, scaling it is not a problem.

However, even if I had dimensions in terms of length and width for the gun, there would always be an element of guess work so far as the size and exact positioning of the panels and other smaller detail and angles etc though the reference images should help getting them a close as possible.

It is alot of work though and although I am experienced in graphics I havent made a technical drawing of this type before, so its something you might want to consider.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers

EDIT: I just realized that photobucket seems to have scaled down this image when I uploaded it to be hosted. The original file on my computer is 2480 pixels wide, just so you know its actually twice the size that you can view it on your internet browser.

Thanks so much for your efforts STENDEC! Looks good, man...

Yeah, let's table this for a few days and see if anyone knows or can provide actual prop tech plans first before going through all this... Les mentioned he saw something somewhere, maybe that will help.

If anyone has actual tech drawing experience with this kind of thing let me know as well, if not one of us will be deployed to do their best with dimensions provided... I guess it will be up to Angie to let us know what works best for her :lol

Can't the Smartgun be a base for the gun? Same base gun, same barrel muzzle, same lack of stock etc. In fact, they (the ALIENS movie prop crew) acquired four MG42's and turned two into Smartguns, and two into Sentrys. Used in multiple shots. Never more than two in one shot....

I'd get a spare Hot Toys Smartgun and break that bad boy down and cast the components. Make the box, craft up the tripod and accessories, and be setting up Sentries in time for cornflakes.

Good to go.

Thanks Les. I spoke with Angie, she has that covered!

Angie: All in hand, in fact I have some castings from a Smartgun kit (Chris's not Hot Toys) that will be modified and used in the build-up. As I said we've been thinking about this for some time!

Other News: Chris at EVA will be doing the castings for us! There will be far more casted parts to this than you might think so hopefully we'll have a bare ballpark quote kit estimate in the coming week... but rest assured I will keep the cost of this kit as close to actual cost/unit ordered as possible...

And everyone congratulate brother STENDEC! Angie has approved him to provide schematics for this project.

And all, please understand, this is a Public Forum so...

Any info re: posting images, info, drawings, etc of this project prior to model buildup will be kept strictly confidential at this stage. It is for the good of all of us and there will be no exceptions unless otherwise approved by Angie. You have to trust me on this guys... it is now USCM LAW and applies to each and everyone of us!

(STENDEC has already been made aware of this via PM.)

WIP pics will be be posted with the consent of Angie, don't be too concerned we will get to see some WIP pics and definitely finished prod master kit pics prior to plunking down our hard earned money but what I'm saying is don't expect to see everything in the development process.

I also want to thank Mudshark who also volunteered his time and talent to do schematics for us. And Mudshark, we may still need you to help us on this Bro so... everyone...

Stay frosty...

Yo Paul, any idea if these will be "kits" where we have to glue them together and paint them ourselves?

Or will they be ready to go once paid for?

I'm guessing the parts will be molded in polystyrene with some kind of assembly and unpainted to keep costs down.
