First of all , I do not appreciate being referred to as sad . I am NOT blinded by the hype . I have been building , painting and sculpting Alien figures/models/kits since the early nineties so therefor know that "better" Alien sculptures have been produced . The point is THIS IS A 1/6 SCALE ACTION FIGURE and as such is a different beast (sic!) and the design and production concerns involved are also different . I stand by my previous post because if we had a 100% accurate Xenomorph , it would be an action figure of a skinny guy in a leotard with bits of rubber detailing glued on ! Or , alternatively , half an animatronic puppet with a team of hairy arsed puppeteers atached by rods!

I'm on your side, thundergod... but, uh, shouldn't this have been posted in that other Aliens thread? Just wondering... :D

Err , well spotted Mudshark , I was just checking you were paying attention !
( To be honest , I forgot which thread I was on . The red mist descended , you know how it is . )
P.S , This will never be settled as long as we have all these "experts" telling us what is accurate and what isn't . Thank God they weren't around when Kenner released their figures !:lol

holy cow people have the ht aliens warrior in hand already? when does he ship from toys2??????

PJAM

Book & Commit me in for 2 bud if poss! (Maybe more later).

I don't claim the be, as you call it, an "expert". I simply call it as I see it.
And I WAS around when Kenner released their figures.

Any way, I apologize for straying off topic.
Sorry if I offended anyone. That wasn't my intention.

Hey Paul, sorry about that...put me down for 2 buddy!

You can go ahead and put me down for 2 of the sentry guns. I cannot wait to start seeing progress pics of these whenever they are started.

So, I looked through the pics in this thread to try and see what would be needed for the Sentry Gun decals. Here is what I have so far:

on the gun's right side is the following (in yellow):
Double Delta PL Base
Laser Diode Setting

And just below that is (in white):
Serial No. 0141 (the first two numbers are obscured by a rivet, so I guessed.

On the back is the Letter designation A, B, C or D (in white)

On the D gun, under the letter designation is (in white): 1Z 3270 or possibly 12 3770 (the C gun has nothing under the designator, and I don't know about A or B)

On the top, there are two stripes. A white one going down the middle and a yellow going down part of the side.

On the right side of the gun near the scope there is a marking in white(see picture): DM or OM ?

Finally, the control unit thingy (see pic) has markings on it, but I don't know what they are.

That is what I have found so far. Obviously we will probably need screen decals for the laptops, but I have lots of pics of those and they will be no problem. What I would like to ask is for other's input and possibly if someone with the DVD extra disk could check it out for closer pics of these parts.

One final note on waterslide decals. The paper comes in clear and white. The clear will make a decal that will show the paint underneath. However, you cannot do white on an inkjet printer, therefore, if you have white graphics, they must be printed on white decal paper. My experience is that yellow comes out much brighter if printed on white decal paper as well. The problem this causes is that the graphic must then be created with a background colored to match the paint it is going over. This can be tricky to match. The other option is to change all the white stuff to yellow and print it on the clear paper, but the colors will be subdued and not look as good, in my opinion.

Here's an example of some decals I made for ammo cans to get an idea of what I'm talking about:

And here is one on an ammo can:

A big shout out to DBoz! You rock Bro!

Thanks Les et al. We make dreams come true here.

Ok I have an update from Chris @ EVA re: Casting estimates. I have to go through it all, when I get a handle on it I should have a rough estimate for the complete casted kit... stay tuned!

UPDATE: ALIENS SENTRY GUN KIT ESTIMATE

Okay guys, trying to keep this as close to cost as possible. There are over 25 parts to be cast. The increase in number of kits has helped as far as offsetting some of the costs, but I don't know if it affects the actual casting estimate per kit, it may. Ill find out later. The cost savings per person for the Master Kit to be made by Angie is pretty much negligible at this point, maybe a half buck change at most per kit/per person.

Chris @ EVA got back to me with his rough estimate for casting these, and it is rough only but we do have a range to look at.

So, what was your best guess for one of these? Mine was higher than I thought it would be. I also figured a 1 of 100 Custom Sentry Gun kit with this detail would prolly retail for up to $150.

I was hoping it would at least be less than the cost for a basic 12" Sideshow Fig and it is, basically. That is good news...

So, the rough estimate for one of these, taking into account minimal overhead, Master Kit Costs and the Casting costs comes out to somewhere in this range excluding shipping...

As of Now:
Casting estimate is $32-40 per kit.
Master Kit Cost $15 per kit

Total: $47-55 per kit Estimate.

I hope I haven't messed up any numbers here. I believe this is fairly accurate.

Stay tuned for more info. I have also asked Chris if he will offer kit assembly and painting service.

Paul, that price rocks!!!!!

:rock :rock :rock :rock

Keep me down for 2 please!!! Thanks so much.

Sooo, now we gotta get some folks here lined up for kit buildups and repaints!

Les, Josh?!

:D

Yes indeed Reiny. As noted I have also asked Chris if he will offer kit assembly and painting service.

I honestly thought these would run about 80 each. SO relieved!

Here is a Rough Breakdown: From Angie; Just so you guys know what goes into this, and this from the ass-kicking Best...

Sentry Gun Rough Parts breakdown

Main Body Section
1. Camera /Sight, one part (hopefully)
2. Drum Magazine, two parts (split down middle)
3. Main Gun MG42, single part.
4. MG42 Flash hider, one part.
5. Main Body front housing, two parts
6. Main Body rear housing, two parts
7. Main Body top housing, one large part, one smaller detail panel.
8. Main Body left side housing, one main part, two "box" subsections.
9. Main Body right side housing, one main part, one "box" subsection.
10. Some interior structure to mount Gun/tripod and side panels on, say two parts for now.
11. Flexible ribbed couplings between gun and panhead, four parts

Tripod
12. Panhead top section, one part (will require brass rod to connect to main housing)
13. Panhead bottom section, one part (hopefully).
14. Main Downtube, will have to be brass rod for strength I think.
15. Downtube detail piece, one part.
16. Front leg, one part (may be two).
17. Left leg, one part (note:- this will have to be thicker than the real version to hold the weight and the through holes will be "solid").
18. Right leg, one part (ditto from the left leg).

Control Unit (Weapon Module)
19. Main unit, two parts.
21. Left Leg, one part.
22. Right leg, one part.

"Gridcase" Control Computer
23. Lid/monitor, one part.
24. Keyboard processor, one part.

Miscellaneous
25. Several canon connectors, one master part.
26 Ribbed flexihose casting for detail piece on tripod, one part

Note:- This parts breakdown is just my best guestimate at the moment and will no doubt change (up or down) when I get to the construction phase.

Paul I know it seems like a lot of parts (it does to me, yikes), but as I'm sure Chris will confirm you need to make it "production" castable, so it sometimes need's more parts than you would imagine to achieve that end.

Please also note: From Chris

"I'm estimating that I could provide a complete set of resin parts (less bits like wire, tubing, and the like) for $32.00 - $40.00. I use the highest quality resin just like Verlinden products."

Do I look like Howard Chan (my hero) to you? Or Dusty... she's a cutie though... :lol

j/k nash. I'll answer as best I can this early in the game:

From Chris @ EVA:

Parts will be inspected several times under 6x magnification and then appropriately Polly bagged as required. Parts are packed with a numbered template and double checked by count to assure that no parts are missing or broken.

PS: I would use $60 for a target number, if it's less, more power to us... One other note. I've said this many times now, the SSF ES run is just that, a close to as possible run at cost for SSF only.

Wow! That's a wicked parts list.
I assumed some brass rod work was needed on a resin kit this fragile.

As for whether I can do buildups for anyone, it depends on the release time, and my availability, and the time it will take to build one of these bad boys.
I plan on getting mine, building it, and painting it, and seeing what it takes.

Maybe I should record that well when I do, eh? For everyone's sake?
I Have built enough resin kits, that this one doesn't scare me in the least.
I am spooked by any lack of spare parts, as some of these may not be replaceable, but I can see upon arrival, how complex it is.

Then, if all goes well, I can price out a timeline and cost for me to build up one.
Hope that helps.

Keep the faith Paul! Great work on this so far. I am more than intrigued.

Oh, will it have or need any moving parts? Springs? Details like that?
Will it be designed to pivot at all? Seems like a tough thing to pull off with a resin kit like this, but possible...

Angie HAD mentioned the gun head would swivel and tilt but I am not holding her to it until confimed. Waiting for confirmation... also believe the tripod legs will be foldable/collapse-able.
