Very pleased with both these figures! I know some had issues with their Megatron but mine was pretty spot on.

Also astrotrain / chigurh is extremely solid, very well put together and is a great addition to my MP collection

Unless dalianj confirms it as being legit I'm calling BS. Every other FT reveal has been directly from him.

The aesthetic of that line art is also at odds with all of FT's other Dinobots.

At first I thought the same but after thinking on it I think it looks about the same. The black and white lineart just makes it seem more detailed than it actually is.

Imagine if all of the panel lines were filled in black on these guys.

That looks to me like someone has taken a technical drawing from something like that Ark book from a few years back & just cobbled that together.

Looks overly detailed & the from that the head looks really off too.

I'll be interested to see if it is true though

EDIT - in fact the head looks tiny & the shoulder overly exaggerated, it's like what you'd expect if Grimlock had hit the Gym & **** ton of Steroids along the way

To be fair, line-art drawings like that always look overly detailed; their other dinobots would look the same if you line-drew them and included all of the molded details.

But I do agree that the shoulders are over-exagerated.

The shoulders have that same "American football shoulder pads" look as MP08.

Look at their other Dinobots, the shoulders are all set lower and are cartoon accurate, why would they decide to change direction for the final one when they spent so much time keeping the others consistent?

The shoulders aren't the only thing that's off, the dino claws are also the wrong shape and the detailing on the sides of the robot mode legs looks nothing like it's supposed to either.

If it's genuinely their art then I'll be very suprised but I don't think there's anything to be concerned with yet as from the overwhelmingly bad feedback it's been getting so far at places like TFW they'll have to change it otherwise they'll struggle to sell more than a couple.

I think they'll struggle to sell more than a couple anyhow considering, you know, there's already an official Grimlock Masterpiece figure who's in stock at most online retails and in various color schemes, no less. Sales will really be limited to those who purchased the other 4 Fanstoys Dibots and want a Grimlock of equal scale to complete the set.

MP08 doesn't scale correctly in robot mode with anything from MP10 onwards and the alt mode barely works.

Takara are extremely unlikely to make a new Grimlock that does scale correctly with figures from MP10 onwards, let alone any other Dinobots which has created a demand for one that does. FT will have little trouble selling what they need to.

I expect the eventual Giga Power Grimlock to do alright as well, I personally prefer FT's aesthetic but the great thing about TF collecting today is that we have more options than ever before particularly with characters the official licensees have little intrest in making.

I know I am IN for Fan Toys Grimlock.....I want to complete the FT Dino lineup and I am expecting FT Grimlock to be much better than Takara's MP-08

Until we hear otherwise from FT there's no reason to assume anything is legit.

dalianj has been active at TFW as recently as today so he's bound to comment on the situation sooner or later.

In any case, it's just a drawing at this stage, it's nowhere near production so there's ample time to change it to something that actually looks like a FT design.

Unlike Hasbro and Takara they tend to listen to their customers, they don't bury their heads in the sand and pretend they don't exist
