Yeah, I don't think the CW Devastator is worthy of the "Masterpiece" title, either. I was being a little glib, there. :) Didn't anyone get the Shakespeare reference? You bunch of heathens - especially you Brits, you have no excuse!

Spanbauer makes a really good point, but for me, that's only really valid if I want a "stand-in" for an eventual MP (or MP-styled, third party) Devastator... which I do think will happen sooner or later. And I still have my TFC Hercules as a stand-in if I want it... I kind of want to sell or trade it, to be quite honest - not that it isn't awesome, it's just more of a Generations type design as well.

As for Combiner Wars... from what I've read on TFW, it would seem that it IS part of the ongoing IDW storyline, but that's all I know. I'm not into the current comics, either.

While he's certainly not worthy of the "Masterpiece" title, I would argue that due to his aesthetics and sheer size, Combiner Wars Devastator makes a better "Masterpiece" stand-in than any of the $500 3rd party Devastators. I think the photos speak for themselves!

Speaking of Masterpiece, I'm getting back into the game tomorrow with the arrival of Takara Tomy's Soundwave with Laserbeak. Pretty excited! I haven't paid much mind to the masterpiece series since Grimlock, but this big green bad-ass we've been discussing has rekindled my interest in Transformers.

Can't believe how some say that Hercules is MP quality. He looks like something you'd find at a souvenir store in Old Vegas.

And while CW Devy is not MP quality either (who ever claimed he was?) it sure as hell displays better than any other 3P Devy made thus far. Which is really not saying much.

Congrats on getting MP Soundwave, btw. Quite an amazing figure. Now you have to hunt the other cassettes. The engineering on Laserbeak is out of this world.

Hercules was $500 or so I think but Green Giant has always been like $250-300 I think.

Agreed,an excellent stand-in for MP Devestator. So glad I sold off Hercules.

yeah I might have to get the giant green goof. since I found my home to the transformers land again. I have been away for probable over 10 years. my main focus is star wars sideshow/hot toys 1/6. but thinking about taking a break from that and going back to my childhood fun transformers

The main thing holding me back from Devy at this point is the (predictably) cheapish looking plastic used by Hasbro. I bet Takara will put out something that is a higher quality and looks nicer. At which point, it might look even better on display with MP figures.

yep! The size of this thing is great no doubt....but I just don't see this thing standing in the MP collection quality wise and when takara could possibly do a Devastator MP but much more better design and quality

I am sure if I see it in store,I'll be tempted though

Well that's possible too (and of course, that would be the best case scenario!), but I'm just talking about the repaint they may do of this same mold. In the past, Takara has put out superior versions of Classics-type figures by including better quality plastic, better paintwork, chrome where it was appropriate, etc.

Yup. When possible, the Takara version is 100% the way to go on mostly every TF release, really.

I also would LOVE for TT to make a proper MP Devy, but I really doubt that'll happen before I die....
Realistically speaking, I'd hope for FT to make it happen, as every other 3P has failed miserably IMO.

All the Hasbro and Takara releases come from the same factories so I don't think the quality of the plastic in terms of strength is any different, it's just the coloring and the extra paint apps that make Takara's look better 9 times out of 10.

With this Devastator I'm sure that whatever Takara do with it will somewhat lessen the whole oversized bootleg feel the Hasbro one has going on but the overall design is still far too weak to really look the part when displayed with genuine and 3rd party Masterpieces.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the plastic, and the green plastic in particular. It has a milky, translucent appearance up close. Like it's been "watered down" to save a buck, which sounds exactly like something Hasbro would do. You can actually see light passing through Bonecrusher's scoop. Materials used in toys are definitely a lot cheaper than they were in the 80's!

With any luck, the Takara edition will have all the added paint apps and decals of the SDCC edition, minus the vac-metal nonsense. Can't wait for the Takara Tomy reveal or even some in-hand images of the SDCC version...

Well, it was a different time when Herc was released, and I don't disagree with you - but regardless, I'm not going to spend more money on ANOTHER "stand-in" when I've got Herc, flawed as he is - and after all, this one is too.

I mean, there WILL be a true "masterpiece" Devy eventually, whether official or not. I'd rather spend more later than settle (again).

I have absolutely no interest in this but I think it's just the paint that gives this thing a cheap look. There seems to be a lot of details but they need to go all out and not cheapen on things and this can look very close to an MP.
