Not sure why they decided to put Autobot insignia on his shoulders; he just had crosses in the cartoon. Other than that it looks like I expected it to. Some subtle retooling here and there too on the sides of the legs and the crotch.

I agree in not having interest until the MP cars came out. I think I know why I love seeing the MP cars in a group displayed in both modes. In the G1 Cartoons I always remember the cut shots when Prime says "Transform and roll out". The shot is them transforming into Vehicle mode and then traveling on a dirt rode. This Group shot is very iconic and is stuck in everyone's mind. I feel because we saw that camera shot a lot in the G1 cartoon that we now treat the cars Vehicle mode as Iconic as the robot mode. Don't know if that makes sense to anyone, but for me it does.
So In the end I like seeing the MP cars in a group shot with Prime as much as their Robot modes. For some reason I didn't get that same Nostalgic value from the Decepticons. Maybe because they would lift off the ground and fly everywhere, and didnt seem as organized as the Autobots were , at least in Group shots.
I didn't see much of the cartoon but that's one of the images that has stayed in my memory and it definitely played a part in my decision to start doubling up with the carbots.
So far Bumblebee is the only Minibot I've got 2 of but I had to draw the line somewhere otherwise my budget for new characters would have been much lower
That said I'll be getting an extra Badcube Huffer when they do the reissue, the one from the original run I've got will go into vehicle mode and be displayed pulling one of my MP10 trailers.
Megatron, Soundwave & the tapes & Reflector all cheated physics in the cartoon which can never be recreated with a toy, displaying them next to the Seekers in alt mode wouldn't have the same coherence as MP10 with the cars as they'd look like they were part of a different line.

It's a licensing issue....the Red Cross organisation own the trademark to the proper logo.
So either their asking price for the rights to use it was too high, or they just weren't willing to allow Takara to use it at any price.

They should just say that his backstory is that he was manufactured in Tonga
The more I see of the van-bots, the less I like them. Takara missed the mark with these guys IMO. I was hoping Ratchet would be an improvement over Ironhide somehow, but it's really not. I'll still get them, but will be on the lookout for 3rd party improvements. Which is the first time I've felt this way about a modern MP figure. Maybe a simple head enlargement would be enough of an improvement for me, though.
The more I see of the van-bots, the less I like them. Takara missed the mark with these guys IMO. I was hoping Ratchet would be an improvement over Ironhide somehow, but it's really not. I think Ratchet looks better than Iron Hide & I think I'll have to succumb & get them both, they are still too important to the universe to not have in the line up & although the 3P efforts look better IMO I just can't justify the much higher costs for them.
The pair from Takara cost roughly the same as just one of the Voodoo version & I just can't swallow that kind of hit.
Takara's are acceptable for the money.

Yay, Rachet! Can't believe how fast these Masterpiece figures are being announced and then lined up for release. Ironhide in January, Hot Rod in February, Shockwave in March, Rachet in April and Ramjet at some point as well. It's crazy!
Love that he includes some wrenches! Not crazy about the aqua blue windows, though. Yes they were a sky blue in the cartoon, but I always imagined that was intended to be glass reflecting sky - not blue tinted windows. Someone did a mockup on TFW2005 with smokey glass instead and it looks 1000% classier in my opinion:
I actually dig the blue windows. Gives him a clinical/medical kind of vibe somehow.

Cheaper than HLJ usually?
HLJ has decent discounts below retail, though I don't know how they stack up to Anime Export. They also have extremely reasonable shipping, which is why they've been my go-to for awhile now. Whenever I would estimate costs with shipping, they would win out over others.
