except for the fact that in G1 he was a cassette player and here he appears to be a helicopter.

Helicopter? How do you get that? I just see 4 black lines that appear to be blades, but are tiles to a floor.

Don't know about that, the puppet that was used on set looked a lot like the Ravage concept art that went along with the first leaked Soundwave concept art:
And I have to admit, the SWTFs are getting better and better! I'm VERY tempted to get the new Clones, though the legs of the T-Wing (is that the name? I'm a bit rusty with the new trilogy's vehicle names) look a bit...Weird.

Soundwave turns into a satellite (cybertron mode), and both he and Ravage take form of a truck in earth mode... which is what I was saying.

I'm guessing because it's a toy for the movie, and not for G1....
But it's cool and acceptable for Prime to have his G1-inspired head/coloring/Cullen voice, Bumblebee to have his G1 horns and yellow coloring, and Jazz to also have a G1-inspired head? Fans cheered for these throwbacks when the first movie came out. Now it's "bad" to throw little nods to the original Transformers?

who hates the G1 head? G1 heads are fine with me. G1 anything is fine. hopefully soundwave's voice is the same as the cartoons as well.

Eh, who knows. Like I said, i'm not sure. I couldn't care either way. I'm all about a good design, and so far, this seems like a good design to me.
