I guess this means I'll be taking 2 trips to CA this year...Botcon and SDCC.

I do need a G1 Ravage though as the new one with Universe/Henkei Hound looks crap so I'll still pick the set up.

All I can say is that it was SO much better than I expected a Transformers movie directed by Michael Bay to be. Most of the transformer fans I know liked the movie fine. You just have to keep an open mind and not expect it to be exactly like what's come before it.

I liked Michael Bay's Transformers a lot. And I grew up with Gen 1 as a kid like most 30 something year old males, and I have all the old episodes on DVD which I enjoy watching with my kid. I didn't feel he raped the TF universe in the least bit. Transformers in the 80s has it's place, as Bay's live action TF has it's place. Had he stayed true to the design and themes from the 80s show, the film would've been rather... silly?

I loved the Transformers movie and am a G1 fan. I have to say what made it for me was that the story and the characters were pretty much based on G1. Also the fact that Peter Cullen portrayed Optimus Prime automatically gave it old school street cred.

If your first exposure to Transformers was nothing older than say Beast Wars or Beast Machines all I can do is try and explain that magic that we all felt back in fall of 1984 when Transformers first premiered. To me it seemed that the people who made this new movie recognized that G1 is special and tried to apply it to this film. I am really looking forward to the sequel.

So conflicted on this...The Henkei is obviously better painted, but I like the G1 toy colorscheme of the classics version a bit better...

That's why you get both He's one of my favorite characters and there's enough differences for me to justify two purchases.

I just looked at my Universe Cyclonus and noticed they didn't fold the wings properly behind him. no big deal though
