Yes, critically it failed. Financially? VERY far from it. There's a lot of crap movies that are not considered failures simply because of how much $$$ they made.

Bub, critically it was a failure. Plus, even Michael Bay and Shia LeBouf stated that they could have done better and alot of the problems were from the writing strike. Having the main human star and director state that the film wasn't the best should tell you something.

But then again, this is probably the only Transformers you know, so this probably looks great to you. Don't you have some customizers to whine about?

No, i can just accept change and not take a simple movie about giant robots so seriously and just enjoy it for what it is, and not dilude myself into thinking g1 is the be all end all of the franchise and everything should pay homage to it.
And no one cares about what critics think, the movies are a massive worldwide success. End of.

as long as hotrod is the same size/height as MP starscream in robot mode and is G1 cartoon accurate then its what ive been waiting for along with MP galvatron! need to get my hands on that toyrus grimlock too!

Nah. They're only a success financially, it doesn't mean they're good. But if you yourself claim to not take these things seriously, then your opinion doesn't really count much. How can you really judge good or bad, when you don't even have an invested interest? :cuckoo:

Oh, I forgot... you're invested with the flavor-of-the-month custom.

Wow. Just Wow.:pow It's like the Predators thread. Take personal attacks to PM.

this is great! "dammit open" "DIE DIE!"

Trust me, i have ALOT MORE invested interest in this franchise than just trying to "keep up with the joneses" on the latest, often lame, custom tf. (My living room FULL of transformers proves that)

No im just not some snob who thinks he's a better fan than others because he thinks his beloved G1 is the best thing since sliced bread, or that his intellect is far too high to enjoy a simple, entertaining action flick about toys from the 80's, or someone who thinks that a live action movie based off of said toys from the 80's should be some oscar-winning, shakespearean, Kubrick-esque masterpiece when in reality the whole franchise that the films are all about was never anything more, and never will be anything more, than mindless fun and low-brow action and adventure, primarily aimed at CHILDREN.

Again, critical acclaim means NOTHING when it comes to a Transformers movie. People watch them/like them because they are pure, simple, escapist entertainment.
If people wanted a deep, complex and masterful work of celluloid art, they would go and watch something else.
And if theres people out there who wont watch a movie unless some stuck up, film school drop-out critic gives it a "thumbs up" then they have far more serious personal issues to worry about then missing a fun action flick.

First of all, this is a separate masterpiece line from your precious G1 masterpiece series, so don't worry about it. Secondly, I'm sure if you asked the makers of the G1 cartoons to critique their work, they would also say they could have done better. Does that mean they should have stopped making G1 figures 30 years ago?

Lastly, there's a special thread just for control-freak Transformers purists like yourself.

Nope, wrong again. These guys are still labeled as MPs, even with the MP packaging, so they're still part of the same series. Man, get a clue or try reading. It's even a picture, so you should be able to understand that. :lol

Secondly, I never compared G1 to TFTM/ROTF. I'm sure everything can be improved on at some point. As for "control-freak", you don't have a point. I made a statement about what I would prefer - that doesn't control anything. :cuckoo:

Thanks for playing. Have a nice day.

Why can't there be both in the MP line?

There can, obviously. I just don't feel that certain material deserves to be in the MP range given where it's been going so far.

It just seems like a pathetic attempt by TakTomy to cash in on a new mold. Look at BW Dinobot. He just got in the TF Hall of Fame, so where's his MP? Where's any of the characters from G2 or the Cybertron line or Beast Wars?

Hasbro/TakTomy just made this mold and this is just another way they're cashing in on it. Just like the Henkei line did with the Classics/Universe line. Except this time, I'm sure they'll be asking alot more for a mold that's released in the US for Leader Class pricing, just because it's under the MP banner.

Now do not misunderstand. I like some of the designes from micahel bay presents giant robots and explosions. Most bparticularly prime, ravage and soundwave, but as far as my character designes go, I prever the g1 eske and dreamewave looking versions. I grfew up with them, and I like them. Particularly the dreamwave/idw superdetailed versions.
Do I thing the bay movie was a bad film? Yes. It is what the hollywood types call a sucsessful failure. It makes money, but critics (and in many cases some fans) dislike it. Its a good ac@tion move, a good scifi movie, a fun movie, but a mediochre at best transformers movie. But so what? That's just my opinion. If YOU like it, that's all that matters. Love it, enjoy it, and buy the toys. And ill keep buying my G1esque masterpice and universe toys, as well as anything animated I can find.

Also, id like to say that the comics that are based on the bayverse are pretty good.

I didn't see people complaining about Buster Prime's cost.:dunno This figure is the same as that: a premium version of a leader class figure, it even costs the same. Only now they're actually labelling it as a Masterpiece, and if it's even half as good as Buster Prime, it will be a label well deserved.

Also, id like to say that the comics that are based on the bayverse are pretty good.

They were, up until Furman took over with his Tales of the Fallen and Nefarious comics.:monkey4

Masterpiece Grimlock was MP-08. Masterpiece Movie Starscream is MP-M01. Note how Masterpiece Starscream is not MP-09. That's because it's a separate masterpiece series, specifically for movie figures.

As for "control-freak", you don't have a point. I made a statement about what I would prefer - that doesn't control anything. :cuckoo:
You'd like to dictate what can and cannot have a masterpiece series, which is as absurd as trying to tell Hot Toys they can put Batman figures in their Movie Masterpiece series, but not Blade figures (as an example). And again, since you seem to be lost, allow me to direct you to a thread created specifically for people who share your point of view. Right now you're in the thread where we don't get all in a huff when a figure or series isn't G1 verbatim.

Precisely. For anyone interested, I put this comparison together to show how they stack up:

He's going to look great next to Buster Prime.
