I've never looked forward to any figure my whole life, the way I do for MP Rodimus. I purposefully did not pre order him, with the intent of buying him on ebay the moment I see him, [Pun]'No matter the cost[End pun]. It for me is my grail, more than a MISB Fort Max or the rest...

Come on Jan 29th:yess:

Universe Hardhead with the Headrobots upgrade,

Aside from the awesomeness of the Headmaster the guns and backpack are fun as they can be switched round into several different configurations and there's still room for other weapons to be added if you have any that fit the peg holes.

Overall it's a great upgrade that adds a lot to an otherwise average repaint and I'm looking forward to the one they're doing for Bludgeon.

Dubz,
Hot Rod is the only one that's getting a better release in terms of faithfullness to the original source material but not everything has to be 100% faithful to the G1 design for me to like it, sometimes the old designs need approaching from a new angle....sometimes they don't.

Protector is a unique enough take on the character that makes it a worthwhile purchase to me.

Faith Leader is IMO the true Masterpiece and I'll take it over the oversized, clunky POS that the official one is any day of the week.

Rumble & Frenzy may only turn into guns but the robot modes look much nicer than the crappy looking Hasbro ones especially when displayed with Music Label Soundwave.

Can you point me in the direction of the "superior" official Triple Changer Springer or Ultra Magnus armor/trailer?

Unlikely.

I do like faith leader, but considering i have the far superior, die cast, official MP Prime i dont like him enough to pay the insane prices they charge for him.
Nothing will ever change the fact that MP Prime is the best rendition of the character ever so i dont really need/want Faith leader.
If he was a more reasonable price then maybe id get him, but for someone who has to take into account bills, car insurance, rent, groceries, gas and other bills that come from living independently with your spouse no third party release is EVER going to be as good or as tempting as the real deal.
Faith leader is just a copy of the true legacy and iconography of Prime and the transformers brand.

I never said there was a superior triple changer Springer or Ultra Magnus, i was strictly talking about Rodimus in that sense. No need to act snarky about it, but if you want my true opinion on the matter:
Hasbro Titanium G1 Ultra Magnus, or Hasbro Classics Ultra Magnus and MP Ultra Magnus (to me) are far superior. Its not just about cartoon accuracy to me.
Springer....meh. Never cared enough about him to want a decent toy of the character so the fact someone made a rather unimpressive looking version of him that has triple changer capabilities is moot to me.

I never liked the small scale. Makes it feel like less of a premium item. :dunno

Yep. Agreed. Its such a shame thet MP Rodimus is so small, as scale was the issue i had with Voyager/MP Grimlock. I was always slightly miffed about the seekers being so small as well, but i could always get them for reasonable prices so it didnt bother me as much.
MP Grimlock is just a rip off.
I was disappointed with Rodimus's size, but because i love the character so much and the toy is just designed so fecking well i can get over it.

I have more than my share of bills to pay as well but if there's something I can't afford I don't instantly dismiss it and go on about high prices the way you seem to :huh

If FansProject and co had the ability to produce and sell as many units as your average Has/Tak product the prices would be much cheaper but they can't do that so they have to charge more.

I (sensibly so) base how good something is on how it looks and how much it costs.
You wouldnt pay £100 for a legends sized third party toy of g1 Bumblebee would you, so why should i change the way i think about things?

He's a $200 midget. Masterpiece Rodimus is in serious need of a metallic paint job; then he might look like an expensive collector's figure.

I disagree. Metallic paint would make him look more like a movie figure, not a G1 character. They didnt have metallic paint in the cartoon, so anything other than this kind of stylized base color finish would just be wrong. Though, i still think a vehicle such as a sports car should at the very least have a glossy finish, otherwise with these colors things just look like birthday cakes :cuckoo: but oh well.

Dude, save it. I'm not going to let this thread degenerate into one of the arguments you like provoking so much and am putting you on "ignore".

Spanbauer,
I expect the paintjob is based on how the character looked in the cartoon but you're right that it somewhat lessens the impact of the work that's gone into the design.

Hah. Well thats nice.
Alright then, if thats how you want to play and cant just accept that someone doesnt blindly want to suck off the third party companies and hate everything hasbro/takara does like you seem to want them to then i guess we have nothing else to talk about.
I guess our friendship wasnt as strong as i thought huh?
Bye bye.

yeah, I too, wish prices were cheaper, but nothing I can do and no point in complaining but I can't wait to get MP Rodimus, then get the US version next year so I can display him in vehicle mode:rock

I recall him being reflective in Transformers: The Movie, or at least in the instances where the animators felt like drawing reflections. Either way, they are robots; they shouldn't look like they're made of plastic, right? At least not with a $200 figure. In my opinion the last two masterpiece reeleases have been blindly faithful to the original cartoon or toy to a fault. Over the years you'd expect the Transformers Masterpiece series to become more advanced, detailed and intricate. Instead, they've been progressing in the other direction.

He should have a glossy finish but not metallic.

It all depends what you're looking for in a "masterpiece."
Some people like MP Prime's weight as a measure of quality. Others find it annoyingly clunky.
Masterpiece Grimlock is my favorite because he is similar to the G1 but refined. I don't want things to be overly complicated just for the sake of justifying a price tag. BUT I understand that some think the simplicity should justify a price break.
Plenty of room in the TF sandbox. Bayformers, third parties (who is the second party?), customs, cakebots.....it's all good.

And I DO want your Alternators, Spanbauer. If I can raise the $$$ they will be mine. :lol

A more metallic finish would look better especially considering the price but I suppose economics has played a part as with the other things like the smaller scale of the more recent MP's.

Even some of the recent United toys have had lesser quality paint apps compared to the Henkei line so I guess Takara are as guilty of cutting costs as their US partners.

Actually, I think that with the same metallic paint and color as Takara TFA Rodimus, it would look pretty good and similar to the improved sheen the characters in the movie had.

I agree that they shouldn't be complicated just for the sake of it, but MP-01 Optimus wasn't blindly faithful to the cartoon model; they took some liberties and made him more detailed than he ever was in the cartoon, while Rodimus is basically his cartoon model in plactic form. But for simpler characters like Grimlock and Rodimus, they could compensate for the lack of intricacy with glossy or metallic paint apps. For example, Grimlock's grey parts would have looked much better with a glossy finish, but instead they left them as that cheap grey plastic.

Are you and the dude I've been PMing on tfw2005 one in the same? Whoever comes up with the money first gets them! :D

No, I'm not on any TF boards and I never PM until I'm ready to pull the trigger.
it is a hell of a deal for whoever gets it.
Haha, ok. Well another guy is hoping to have the money in 2-3 weeks, and i told him that if i had not sold them by that time they'd be his. If you can scrape together the money before him, they're yours man. They need to go to a good home where they can be put out on display again! :yess:
