The way they're going iGear will either wake the sleeping giant that is Has/Tak's legal department and it'll all go to hell or they'll make the best G1 themed line ever.....hopefully it'll be the latter.
That's what I worry about - but all these companies are based in China, correct? So as long as China's copyright laws remain lax, we shouldn't have to worry.
Even so, I wonder how much ground they'd have. Only the actual names of the characters are trademarked, aren't they? The likenesses are all over the place, so it might be a hard case.
Unlike the Classics they're staying as close to the G1 cartoon aesthetic & scale as possible as well as mixing in elements of the IDW art and if the first 4 new molds live up to the promise of the protos they'll be the best toys each character has ever got.
Yeah, can't wait.
I'm not too worried about Has/Tak legalities. The way I see it, they let all these 3rd party companies set up booths in their own convention, so as long as no trademarked names or logos appear, they'll let us "adult collectors" enjoy these pieces
True enough.
So I ended up ordering a bunch more TFs the other day. Henkei Hound and United Tracks, Bumblebee and Grapple. I know you guys recommended RTS but I'm a little worried about finding him at retail, and a quick look on Ebay revealed prices at about the same level as the United one anyway (and not many figures, either). I kind of like the yellow head on the guy, so I just went with it.
Also won a MISB Prowl, and preordered Universe Wheeljack on BBTS (along with Warpath and Thundercracker in a set). So now I just need Henkei Sunstreaker, Bluestreak, Inferno, Red Alert and Smokescreen, and Universe Sideswipe... I'd also like Hot Rod, but I'm not sure which version... I'll probably be fine with the RTS 2-pack version. The Henkei looks nice but I'm hearing problems with the paint and chrome, which scares me for a figure that seems to be commanding really high prices... The RTS version looks cartoon accurate, anyway...
