MP11 is here!

My initial thoughts are,

1.My other Seekers will need dusting before I put Starscream with them.....I hate dusting :gah:

2.The grey color is much more like the animation model and also the G1 & Henkei Starscream toys.

3.The headsculpt is much nicer than the other mold and is also a tight fit....most of my iGear ones needed the superglue trick to stop them wobbling around.

4.The back kibble seems to sit better against the rest of the figure.

5.The robot mode feels a lot more stable.

So far so good! :yess:

I agree. Feels like a slightly better upgrade to the (in my opinion horrible) Classics Grimlock. But I never played that game, so I have no attachment to the design. Easy to be spoiled when we've got MP Grimmy to compare him to, though.

Games worth renting at least.
Ordering Metroplex around, crushing Autobots as Bruticus, the banter between Cliffjumper and Jazz, Grimlocks level was a little bit of a let down, but the game is solid.

It's certainly a step up from that.....thing :lol

But it's still an example of why trying to reinvent a classic design is a pointless exercise because it ALWAYS looks worse.

I played the demo of the videogame it was in for approx 5 minutes before deleting it from my hard drive as it had the same banal gameplay and bland looking environments as it's predecessor.

In fairness, I'm personally "blinded" by nostalgia for Transformers and probably can't view this objectively. But I think the elegance and simplicity of the G1 'formers will beat out the more complicated looking Bay/G1 hybrids we've been seeing a rash of in this game and the recent CG animated television show 10 times out of 10.

That's pretty much my stance as well. When I first got back into Transformers in 2007 I tried for a long while to appreciate the newer stuff but in the end I realised it was an exercise in futility....G1 will always be unbeatable in my eyes.

Yeah, my interest in collectibles goes as far as "who can give me the best version of the character I knew and liked as a kid." I have come to realize that I don't really care about anything else TF-oriented. I think that's part of why the Bay movies don't bother me--they obviously aren't trying to appease someone like me, the characters have almost nothing to do with ones I knew as a kid, so who cares?

I don't mind the occasional nod to some of the modern G1 comic art like TFC's Devastator but in general I prefer stuff to be based on the original cartoon, toys or Marvel comics.

That said the hype for the first Bayformers movie was what brought Transformers to my attention again although my reaction to seeing the first pictures of the robots was....not good.

Now is a great time to be a purist as the new direction of the Masterpiece line as well as stuff like iGear's Specialists and Mini Warriors are providing G1 characters at increasingly amazing levels of accuracy.

All the non G1, mass market stuff has it's role within the franchise and doubtlessly makes money to help fund new Masterpiece molds so I don't want it to go away, I just dislike how everything has to have elements of the Bayformers style sprinkled all over it.

Well I think the movie stuff, though spawning a lot of what you are referring to, is also in large part responsible for the wave of G1-inspired stuff we see. Like you said yourself, the movie helped to get you back into this stuff, and you aren't the only one. Before the first Bay movie, I remember how TFW2005 was pretty extremely anti-3rd party (which of course, mostly targets G1 fans). Now, that's probably half of the site's activity! So, I consider Bay and all that he directly influences in a "negative" way as a means to an end :D

Here ya go DPrime

I need that... but I'm afraid after the Soundwave fiasco, this won't see the light of day... :monkey2

Check this pic!! :panic:

Good point, I'll try and remember that when I'm shaking my head in disgust at rows of Deluxe Bumblebees during TF4's toy line :lol

Kuzeh,
Look at it like this,

1.If Fans Toys get Shockwave released, collectors win.

2.If Takara decide to make theirs before Fans Toys, collectors will still win although it would be a shame if Fans Toys were taken out of the game entirely as they clearly have talent.

Due to the legal issues that have so far prevented a reissue of G1 Shockwave and the lessons they should have learned from the Soundwave situation I think Fans Toys have got a good chance of getting this out there especially if they can stick to the reported February release.

soundwave got canned because takara released an official one. there would just have been no way to compete. ESP considering the Takara one was going to likely be cheaper.

Word is we will not see a masterpiece shockwave. so this one ought to see release.

Fans Toys were saying $150 for their Soundwave which would translate to £150....exactly what I paid for MP13.

Takara had probably started work on their Soundwave ( they're rumored to have about 30 MP designs on their computers ) and they decided to fast track it when they got wind of what Fans Toys were doing....which screwed Fans Toys, but I'd sooner Takara took it to the 3rd parties by releasing comparable products instead of just trying to shut them down outright.

Contrary to what some have been suggesting at TFW doing the same with Shockwave isn't as clear cut because of the aforementioned legal issues associated with the ownership of the G1 Shockwave design as Takara acquired that mold from another company.

Considering the other Masterpieces that seem to be in development I think the earliest we'd see a Shockwave is the latter half of 2014 or early 2015 even if they got the legal thing sorted.

So Fans Toys are probably good to go this time....but I would worry if they didn't make their release date.

I like the look of that Grimlock. The dino mode is even more crap then I expected, which is a shame, but the robot mode's proportions look dead on to the game model and I actually dig the lightup gimmick for once. I would rather have MP Grimlock obviously, but until they reissue it that really is just not going to happen, so I'll settle with this guy.
