The videogame design for Grimlock looked OK in the clips I saw of it but something has been lost in the translation from 3D model to a toy and the dinosaur mode looks like it belongs in a line made by Playskool or something.

The robot mode at least looks like a Transformer and isn't a crappy Deluxe so it'll be an adequate replacement for the Classics toy for anyone who's not got the Masterpiece.

Yeah, that Grimlock... not sure about that.

I've got a soft spot for the WFC/FOC toys, and so far have the first game's Prime, BB and Megatron, and Shockwave from FOC.

Not sure how far I want or need to go with that, though... I like the game enough to have gotten these on sale or through trades, and that's about it. I suppose I wouldn't mind Starscream and Soundwave to round out the display, and maybe Sideswipe too.

How are you planning on displaying them? Fighting? Stomping Joes?

I've toyed around with the idea of getting Giant for the individual members, but can't really afford to do that.

I'm thinking about selling Hercules and getting Green Giant. The green color and proportions of Green Giant are more classic G1, however he's a bit tiny. Hercules at least looks somewhat in scale the MP Sideswipe.

Herc looks like the G1 depiction in the IDW comics, so that's good enough for me. And yeah, size matters, too!

no idea on the display yet. I was able to get them as part of a bundle deal. I only paid about 250$ for Giant after shipping. only reason i went for it.

Man that FOC Grimlock just doesn't look that good and I can say this without any G1 nostalgia. It just doesn't look much like in the game. Yes, it is a toy, but still. Some of those early promotional pictures showed him being rather shiny and all, but this version looks just dull grey and sand yellow. Not to mention that propostions are wrong in both bot mode and alt mode. Perhaps this is a pass for me.

Blaster on the other hand looks rather pleasant. I saw pictures of him elsewhere and that was something I could buy.

It is a rather annoying that IMO Generations line has clearly took some steps to a wrong direction. Smaller deluxe bots and more simplistic appearence aren't that great. Though there are few relatively nice ones, but lots of misses as well.

Two third party Predakings coming our way. One of Mastermind Creations, one of a new company based on a custom. MMC's will be Herc sized, while the other one will be Giant scaled, whatever that means.

Both showed a prototype. MMC wins for me, because the design work is just nigh perfect. They managed to give Tantrum a lot of personality, especially with that sneer in the facesculpt, but also the rest of his design. And balljointed hooves, how awesome is that?

No, but according to reliable sources an official Masterpiece is one of several molds in development.

Ultra Magnus is supposed to be coming in early 2014 so if that's the case then it's likely that Galvatron would be released during the latter part of next year or as the next one after Magnus.

Prowl will probably get announced first though possibly as soon as the next scheduled release after Soundwave's tapes and the Nemesis Prime repaint of MP10.

soundwave got canned because takara released an official one. there would just have been no way to compete. ESP considering the Takara one was going to likely be cheaper.

Word is we will not see a masterpiece shockwave. so this one ought to see release.

A member of the TW2005 board ( TCracker ) who appears to have very good connections is who I'm guessing has mentioned it and as he's got a very good track record of predicting what's coming so there's no reason to doubt such info.

Shockwave has legal issues over who owns the original toy design going right back to G1 and although the character has been used in the comics there's been no reissue of the G1 toy when pretty much every other major toy from the era has been so there's probably something related to that which is preventing a Masterpiece being made or alternatively Shockwave may not be a popular enough character in Japan to make an expensive, collector toy a viable project.

FansProject are already making Menasor although the first 2 Stunticons have ugly alt modes that look like Hasbro designed them.

FP have produced some nice stuff but their style is getting a bit samey now, it's like they turn the "blocky" look up to 11 on pretty much everything and somehow fail to get the G1 vibe which Takara and iGear have found the formula for and I think their Classicsverse approach of redesigning stuff just for the sake of it is looking increasingly lame in comparison.

I will def be looking into them when they are sold in complete sets. IF its anything like Herc,these guys will be cheaper to get 4-6 months after they have all been released.

It's nice to finally have a Masterpiece Starscream that looks the same color as the G1 toy and the animation model as that was my main disappointment with the iGear one.

The headsculpt may lack the switchable faces of the other mold but looks way better although the darker face takes a bit of getting used to....but it is accurate so all's good.

Owning the iGear Seekers meant the new configuration for the tailfins in robot mode wasn't as new to me as itmay be for others but it works well and as with the iGear versions the robot mode looks a hell of lot better than the original MP03 because there's no hip kibble.

The new null rays work very nicely and all the joints are nice & tight, the only slight issue I have is with the rotation of the feet....I think the MP03/iGear mold does better in that area.

No annoying bits on the intakes to fall off during transformation =

I'm no aviation expert so I couldn't tell you which model of F-15 it's meant to be but like the original it looks very authentic ( aside from the colors of course ) and the holographic pilot is a nice touch.

I think the improvements to the previous official mold are good and I'm happy enough with it but I still think the money used to develop it would have been better used towards another new character and there's no need for a 3.0, or not until mass shifting tech is available for toys

I wouldn't pay the £120 it cost me ( just under twice the price of an iGear one ) for any Seeker other than Starscream and I want him to stand out from the others so he'll likely be the only time I get this mold.

Overall I'd give it 9/10.

Thanks for posting that review. I have been itching to pick one up for the longest time now, especially with most of the online stores out of stock and thus the increase in price. I'm tempted to pull the trigger now but I know I'll regret it when it comes time to pay off MP Soundwave and DX11 in the next year.

Yeah, I love what these companies are doing with the combiners, but it's just too much, and that's coupled with a slight bit of buyer's remorse at Hercules. Not even sure I will get Superion, even though I have strong nostalgic connections to it, but I would love to have Herc, Superion, Menosaur, and Predaking all on the display.
