I think Hasbro/Takara realizes that these 3rd party companies do more good than harm, as they help a certain niche collector group maintain interest in Transformers while, if Hasbro were left to its own devices, many of these collectors would turn off completely and not spend any $$ at Target/Toys R Us/etc. on the various MP/Classics type figures that are released. I'm in that group.
Yeah. It's like Hasbro/TT has to balance a fine line between appeasing long time fans/collectors and redesigning the classic core characters to entice and cultivate interest from the new generation of fans coming up. The MP's just hit that nostalgic sweet spot for people who grew on the G1 cartoon. Frankly I don't blame 3rd party companies from exploiting this fact. For me, I have no interest in the movie stuff, but it's a necessary evil as I think that's where Hasbro makes a lot of their money as well as potentially future collectors. Money that hopefully finds its in supporting development of new figures, including MPs.
This is all assuming of course that Hasbro and TT are connected financially.
