Yeah, with all the great 3rd party and MP figures coming out nowadays I had really no reason to keep the CHUG figures and sold them on eBay. Only ones I still have are Bumblebee, Hound (still the best Hound figure I've ever seen) and a handful I found dirt cheap at Ross.

Yup. I think we Sideshow/Hot Toys fans are the types who would typically do that, since we want the "definitive" version in our collections.

I've kept Hound as well and am likely to keep United Jazz as well. I figure iGear will make the ideal "cartoon version" Bumblebee eventually - even if Takara makes an MP version, it'll look off because of the presumably more accurate-to-real-life alt mode. Otherwise, I'd probably hunt down the Henkei version (Art Feather's too big for me).

... Generations has started leaning towards IDW moreso than G1, which I adore. I couldn't STAND Kup though, until I added that IGear head.

Yup, the iGear head really makes the figure pop.

I'm hard pressed to get rid of Generations Kup... even Blurr, really. There are quite a few CHUG figures I just plain like a lot and probably wouldn't get rid of even if an MP version came along. Warpath's another one...

It helps that I picked up a lot of these at sale prices ($8 in some cases). Henkei and United... not so much. :)

I have actually been considering doing the same lately as I'm trying to just focus on the MP figures now, aside from the occasional other releases that I would want. If I do end up selling my CHUG figures it probably won't be anytime soon.

I just transformed a bunch of my CHUGs in preparation for their presumably eventual sale... but I have to admit, they look quite nice just sitting there in car mode.

I'm not hard pressed to sell them either, to be quite honest. I will if I can get a decent price, though. Like I said, I'm not too worried - Transformers collectors in general still love the CHUG!

So I saw a huge stack of mp10s in a TRU in guang zhou china. $175...I might as well spend a little extra and get the takara version.

Might as well. I think it's nicer, personally. :)

The thing that I don't like about classics (and this is coming from someone with a completed classics collection - Even TFCC), is that it feels like it was made with no direction at all, and has continued that way. It sucks. It's what's got me geared towards MPs more than anything.

What bothered me was the lack of consistency....Classics Hot Rod for example had pretty much the same alt mode as G1, but Kup & Blurr got what I presume were their Earth based alt modes in IDW at the time and just looked bland and neither robot mode was particularly great.

Kup looked slightly better with the iGear head but still looked like a reject Bayformer and the Drift mold was too chunky for a character like Blurr.

Had Blurr been given his own mold with the Cybertronian alt mode from his Spotlight issue it would have been a much more distinctive looking toy and would still have fit the Classics theme as it was essentially an updated version of his G1 alt mode.

The WheelTracks mold was also one that I found disappointing although the United version of Tracks has one of the best stock paintjobs on any TF ever.

The robot mode was OK, if a little short but the car mode neither looked like a Corvette or ( more importantly to me ) a Lancia Stratos and once a fully licensed MP Sideswipe was announced I had no problem in starting to offload my entire CHUG collection.

Licensing restrictions mean that I'll never have as big a collection of the main Autobot cars in MP form but so far it's not looking too bad eg,

Takara
Sideswipe, Red Alert and ( probably ) Sunstreaker
Prowl, Bluestreak & Smokescreen

iGear,
Ironhide & Ratchet
Brawn
Huffer ( a bigger one would be nice )
Gears

That's most of my favorites....Wheeljack is the main one I want outside of that and iGear possibly dropped a hint about him in Ratchet's bio.

EDIT
MP19 now confirmed as Bluestreak!

Damn Bluestreak as well now...this has been an awesome week for TF collecting :yess::yess::yess:

Wish I could find somewhere that would do Pre-orders without the money up front.

I need to get everything from MP15 onwards pre-ordered but can't afford to drop what now amounts to £300 straight away :monkey2

Plus I still need to save for the Batman & Poison Ivy Premium Formats & get an order in for the iGear Mini Warrior twin packs :slap:slap:gah:

Anyone need a kidney?? :pray::pray:

Neil

I hear you on that, it's the one slight drawback with ordering from Kapow.

Once I've got MP19 and iGear Cogz ordered that should be me done on TF's for the year unless another Masterpiece of intrest gets announced for release in November/ December.

I think MP20-25 will be the following ( in no particular order ),

Soundblaster with Ratbat
Galvatron
Ultra Magnus
Sunstreaker
Megatron V2

Due to their small stature and relative cheapness to produce I also think there's a fair chance for another tape set ( with Slugfest & Overkill ) getting made.

Wha??? Reject Bayformer? That's harsh, man. Take it back!

Works really good for Runabout and Runamuck, though. I think I'll be keeping those. I don't want them to be TOO G1 accurate since, well, they kind of sucked, and their alt modes were pretty generic anyway.

United Tracks is a beaut. I'd still sell mine, though... I can see MP Tracks coming a mile away... :)

You're a compulsive list-maker, aren't you? Me too. :)

Sweet - I thought they were going to hold out on us for a while. :)

Kup = Maybe not Bayformer bad, but it epitomises much of what I dislike about the whole redesigning thing as it was barely recognisable from the original toy, cartoon or comic character.

I do like a list, it's not a conscious thing but I think it's sometimes easier to sum things up that way online as it's quicker and easier for people to follow.

Bluestreak being out in September means I could save it until Christmas and get a G1 themed toy 29 years after the original.....which wouldn't happen as I'd open it as soon as it arrived :lol

Just some info on Kup and Blurr.

The altmoodes for them were, to my knowlege, not based on anything from IDW.

Blur was a simple repaint and headswap of Drift, becuase in robot mode he KINDA works a s blur.

Kup, they just wanted to use a "modern" altmode so he would "fit in" more with the chug aestetic.

I agree, I would rather of had them as their cybertronian/futuristic vehicles as well. but better than nothing, until we get a MP.

I'm pretty pumped to see the little differences between Prowl and Bluestreak. I never really noticed before all the talk on TFW, but their headsculpts and several other pieces should actually be quite different from one another, if they're going to use the cartoon as a model (obviously they were straight up repaints in the toyline, with only the Prowl's siren being different, iirc).

I always thought Prowl was my favourite Autobot aesthetically but now that I've seen the comparison pics from the cartoon designs, I think it was always actually Bluestreak.

Moving on. Review of Quakewave:

Guess what arrived this morning - the samples! For all the slowness getting it over the ocean, the package got here promptly once it hit US shores at least.

Quickie thoughts - feel free to ask questions and I will answer as best I can. Sorry, no shots with the batteries installed.

In short, I am really, really impressed by this figure. Dalianjj, you and your associates should be commended, this is really an impressive piece. It's feels solid and well weighted, the joints are smooth and tight, the paint is beautiful. There is NOTHING about this that does not feel as good as the best official toys. My only slight area of concern might be with connectible the barrel to the gun-tip in blaster mode, but even if you manage to pop the piece out of his arm, you can simply put it back in place, no problem.

Articulation:
  • Ball neck (somewhat limited by the character design)
  • Universal shoulders (swivel for forward/back, ratchet hinge for up/down - and if you cheat and use the transformation joint he has an extra up/down motion there)
  • Upper-arm swivel beneath shoulder
  • Double-hinge elbows
  • Swivel wrist
  • Articulated fingers (base and second knuckle, ring and pinkie fingers share a base joint but have individual second knuckles, thumb is a ball joint at the base only)
  • Waist swivel
  • Jointed waist armor at the sides
  • Universal hips (ratcheting swivel front/back, simple hinge side to side)
  • Thigh swivel beneath hip
  • Ratcheting hinge knee
  • Lower leg swivel below knee
  • Ankle Tilts
  • Articulated heel, forefoot, and toe sections on feet

Other features/Notes:
  • Die-cast foot parts
  • Silver grip detail is entirely die-cast
  • Purple plastic is a nice, royal purple. Almost exactly the same plastic color used by the Shattered Glass Junkions.
  • Eye and arm light up using separate switches and batteries
  • The plastic used for flap-joints, elbow joints, and the toe joints looks kind of odd in photos, but it is actually a pearly-silver plastic, so don't worry about it being that weird white stuff Xovergen used on Grand Patriot or anything bothersome like that. It looks fine in person.
  • They warned that this was a sample and the final product quality would be better...honestly, I can't find a single problem here. Not with joint tolerances, not with the paint...everything here seems terrific.

Just hanging with what happens to be on my desk right now.

Quake Wave has a surprising love of ballet.

lerath666,
Intresting, I know that Blurr's headsculpt was IDW based but wasn't sure what sort of car he was outside of the Spotlight issue.

DPrime,
I thought Takara's nod to Red Alert's animation model differences worked OK so I'm eager to see how they do the same with MP17-19.

I imagine Bluestreak will have the cartoon black & silver deco and the Diaclone blue & silver one will be an eHobby Exclusive.

If Hasbro release it they'll likely go for the G1 toy color scheme but that depends on whether they have to pay for a seperate license as they have already acknowledged is the case with Lamborghini.

Two expensive licenses at a time when they're laying off 10% of their workforce might well be considered a bad move by their accountants.

I also question whether Soundwave will get a US release as with Hasbro being the part of the partnership that focuses on the kids stuff their execs might well question the wisdom of releasing something that turns into an item that today's kids won't be able to identify with.

Soundwave is one of the most well known characters. He is the guy that everyone knows. It'd be a hit with hardcore fans, casual fans, and even just people who are. He's the easiest money that they will ever make. He'll get released. If not, they are truly the biggest **** ups that the world has ever seen.

Not strictly Transformers, but has anyone read this?

https://io9.com/go_bots/

Lol that's quite funny.
The scary thing is I had ALOT of them as a kid...they actually paved my way into Transformers so served a little purpose ;)

Anyway I had another session in the artist chair on Saturday & finally took some pics today but finally my Tattoo is pretty much complete (bar some background detail that is booked for April)
So after 3 more hours we got Soundwave finished :yess::clap:clap
And this is the final result...

To say I'm pleased in an understatement.
Every painful second has been worth it.

well.. if nothing else, Hasbro has made a pretty good case for that specific arguement already.....

Go-bots did suck! most of the time they were just crappy alternatives for when MANY Hasbro transformers were out of stock at time in the store.Mom's bought the Go-bots to shut their kid up...

Many Hasbro Transformers were very hard to find at retail (especially the Autobot cars,Dinobots etc)
