The only combiner I'd seriously consider getting now would be an official Masterpiece Devastator if Takara made all the Constructicons to be bigger than the Autobot cars.

TFC's Hercules is still nice but doesn't fit in that well with Masterpieces and in their present form Takara would likely blow it away.

As for other large scale 'bots a Masterpiece G1 Omega Supreme would be awesome to see.

Why do you say Hercules doesn't fit well with the Masterpieces? These might be 3rd party, but are practically are Masterpieces without the Takara name

plus, based on how the original G1 Devastor toy was and it's size,it is technically in scale with the line (based on orginal toy scale)

should it be bigger? I suppose, but each constructicon would have to be MP-10 Size and a Takara MP Devastator would easily be $1,000 to complete

The G1 aesthetic TFC used is based on IDW art and not the cartoon series so it looks out of place with Masterpieces.

I also think the individual Constructicons aren't big enough to fit with the scale Takara have been using since MP10 as construction vehicles tend to be a lot bigger than sports cars.

Things are moving so quickly in the TF world now that standout pieces don't take long to become very dated looking and like City Commander I think Hercules isn't aging well.

It's still OK for a Classics based collection but in the face of Takara's present level of excellence with the Masterpieces it's not even close to being adequate enough.

I think Herc would be a really nice, Classics gestalt of he was released officially, but agree that the differences between him and the cartoon/character reference design are pretty numerous. The individual bots and final product are clearly supposed to be Constructicons/Devastator, but a lot of artistic/design license was taken. Having said that, I'm happy with him in my collection now, considering that I don't see an official version coming anytime soon.

Can't say I agree....the original G1 Devastator toy was never in proper scale and neither was Superion(ovious reason for it),which in my opinion,TFC got those two right....to say Hercules is outdated, when he is by far the best Devastator out there and easily better than make toys version..

A takara masterpiece Dev will cost $1,000 and to make it to scale each constructicon would need to be as tall as prime

these are good enough to me.....

It's a slippery slope too, because if we get an MP Devastator, I'm going to want an MP Omega Supreme too. If that were to happen, I'd probably be homeless living in a hut made out of Hot Toys and MPs. :rotfl

Just because the G1 toy was out of scale is no reason for a Masterpiece version to follow the same proportions.

Do you think the Masterpieces should have the same articulation as G1 too? :lol

Takara have been trying to stick to a consistent scale since MP10 which appears to be largely based on the cartoon scale chart but as consistent scaling in the cartoon was all over the place it looks like scaling of real world vehicles also plays a part.

Takara will have seen how much people are willing to pay for decent sized combiners and will want a piece of that action so if they did make the Constructicons it's unlikely they'd make them smaller than the Autobot cars and if the 6 releases were spread out over 12-18 months the total cost wouldn't be as much of a hit.

I predict a Masterpiece Devastator within 3 years.

Problem with Herc is that it really looks more like an early Classics/late Unicron Trilogy toy. A really good one, but it's aesthetic is still a bit toyetic and simpler then it could have been, with the individual members resembling their G1 selves in moderate degrees, only few of them satisfying. The MakeToys version does it better, but is still not there, and especially the combined mode is a bit too anime too.

A Devastator from Takara, at least, would be a lot truer to G1 and have far more realistic altmodes. And I think people WILL pay good money for it, especially if it's taller and more well engineered.

While I disagree about a MP Devvy, I think you may be on to something with the MP Combiner.

I think we will more liekly see the Stunticons first. Menasor will likely be the one that Takara tackles first.

Not that I'm disputing your point, but how are later Classics figures somehow better than Herc? I've got Jazz and Wheeljack (later Classics figures by my reckoning), and I don't find that they're much closer to their G1 counterparts than are some of the Constructicons. On the other hand, the Classics seekers which were released early on are still amazing looking IMO.

Well expect to pay $1200 guaranteed for it...6 bots in oversized scale just to match the cartoony scale in MP? I don't see it happening.

to make it affordable is the reason why we got the scale to begin with from original G1 toy to TFC Hercules....and IF we get a Takara version,I bet it will be under scaled and the same size as Hercules...watch and see

I think a gestalt Takara MP in correct scale with MP10 onward would be a finishing touch on the series and an awesome undertaking. Imagine a giant Devastator alongside Convoy...
The Hercules version whilst nice just doesn't sit with the MP's.

did the original G1 toy sit well with the original G1's in scale?

I don't see a cartoon scaled MP of Devastator without paying through the nose for all 6...

Remember that Takara make the Masterpiece line for a market ( Japan ) that is much more accustomed to high end products for older collectors with disposable cash.

If they thought the project was viable for the Japanese market whether it would be possible at "affordable" prices elsewhere ie Hasbro mass retail wouldn't be a factor.

If MP Devastator is made and it's underscaled then I'll go without, the money saved will go towards something else.

lerath666,
Masterpiece Stunticons will be tricky without the Porsche & Ferrari licenses.

Porsche are owned by VW which for now seems to be a ( bad pun intended ) dead end and Ferrari didn't officially license the toy of that Bayformer so there's no reason to expect they'd be any more willing to do so for a Masterpiece Wildrider.

Lamborghini may be OK if the current issue with Takara can be resolved, no idea on Tyrell or whoever now owns the rights to the P34 six wheeled F1 car that Dragstrip turns into.

I also wonder about the challenge of getting Motormaster to look like the animation model. The truck with trailer would have to be roughly the same length as MP10 and manage to successfully incorporate the entire trailer as part of the robot mode....no mean feat.

Devastator would have no licensing hurdles so I think that alone makes it the more viable choice for a first MP combiner.

It would be very cool if all the licenses could be secured to make MP Stunticons happen as with the scale for cars & trucks now established it'd mean Menasor would be BIG!

So thanks to Furyan posting the awesome pics of his collection I thought I'd dig out a few of my little bits & pieces that I've picked up over the years.

First up my book of the animation models...The Ark which is now something of a rarity & a bargain if you ask me

Very cool stuff!

Does the Monopoly set have a card that says,

"You have had your voicebox stolen by Michael Bay. Go to the toy aisle and warm pegs for eternity. Miss 3 turns."

:lol
