The only combiner I'd seriously consider getting now would be an official Masterpiece Devastator if Takara made all the Constructicons to be bigger than the Autobot cars.
I think at this point I would likely buy any Takara MP, so really any combiners would be welcome.
Thing is, even if I decide it's a character that "doesn't fit", I'd rather pick it up at the initial retail price, because it seems that within a year or two of release, you're looking at double or more to buy it on the secondary market. If I really decide I don't want it anymore, I can sell it for a profit to pay for stuff I do want.
Probably wouldn't bother with Seacons, though.
That said, I'm not convinced we'll ever see an MP combiner, so I'm pretty happy with Herc. Yeah, he's not as G1 accurate as I'd like, but the fact that he's based on the IDW design (which is awesome) is good enough for me. In fact, even if Takara did release MP Constructicons, I'd be hard pressed to sell Herc - I'd probably keep him in combined mode and display the official figures individually.
I predict a Masterpiece Devastator within 3 years.
That means that, given the current schedule, we'd have to start seeing them released within a year and a half at the latest. And if they release them one after the other, that's over a year of releases taken up by basically "one" figure - it might be a pretty big risk from a retail perspective. Can they count on each individual release being as popular as a cool sports car, jet, or otherwise major character like Optimus Prime, Megatron or Starscream? Because the real draw is Devastator himself for most people - and the prospect of committing to six relatively minor (and dare I say, a bit boring compared to many other potential choices?) characters at $150 or so a pop over a year and half... well, that might be a bit daunting for many. Sure, it worked for Hercules - but that's a different market. From our perspective, not so much, but Takara is aiming the MP line at the general public in Japan, just as Hasbro aims them at kids via TRU.
Anyway, I just don't think Takara's ready for that. And quite frankly, I don't think I'd want to see it either, not until we get a full line-up of Auto-cars and MP Megatron, Shockwave and Skywarp... and who knows if even that will come to pass? These things are still coming out SLOWLY.
I think we will more liekly see the Stunticons first. Menasor will likely be the one that Takara tackles first.
It does seem to be the "easiest" in a lot of ways... But I guess we'll see.
Any rumor about about a Takara MP Shockwave? I'd rather not go through the hassle of getting Fanstoys Quakewave now and sell him later on.
Not really. Just speculation because he's a "main" Decepticon (not really, but in a lot of people's minds he is).
....and IF we get a Takara version,I bet it will be under scaled and the same size as Hercules...watch and see
Yeah, I agree.
The individual Constructicons' size compared to other MPs will likely match the original toy more so than the cartoon or that stupid "scale sheet" everyone at TFW thinks is Takara's bible... I'm thinking they'll be a BIT bigger, but not much. Like maybe a head or so larger than MP Sideswipe/Prowl, that's it.
Hercules does not blend well with MPs, it is one ugly blocky mess.
lol. Well, to each his own, but there's nothing wrong with "blocky" when it comes to G1.
