What constitutes a "third party MP" is really just a matter of opinion, for the most part.

FansToys' version of Shockwave, "Quakewave", is considered a Masterpiece figure - and possibly even BETTER than official MPs - by most of those who own one. Personally, I passed on it because I think Takara could still do better and it's a character I could see them doing at some point (though admittedly, I would be up for trading for one).

iGear's versions of Thrust, Ramjet and Dirge could be considered MP figures. They're quite obviously directly copied from the old MP-03 Starscream mold. Ditto Faith Leader, if you like a somewhat smaller version of Prime (a direct copy of the MP-01 mold).

iGear's Weapons and Medical Specialists (Ironhide and Ratchet, respectively) are nearly there... I had them in my MP display for a long time, but eventually sold them. They just aren't G1 accurate enough for me, now that Takara's started to do MP versions of the other Autobot cars.

I've still got iGear's Hench (Brawn) and XTransbots' Glider (Powerglide) displayed with my MPs and they fits in nicely in terms of scale and looks. Sure, neither of them are "MP quality" in terms of design (especially Glider), but they look the part, which is good enough for me. I will be adding iGear's Cogz (Gears) when he gets released, too.

There are some customizers out there that could do that sort of thing for you, but it'd be expensive... I've never heard of a third party company doing commissions but I suppose if you're rich enough and willing to back a project financially, why not? :)

:goodpost:

BrooklynWolfX,
I would advise caution if you deal with customisers as some of them are con artists who'll steal your stuff.

I wish one of these 3rd party companies would re-make the original sharkticon

iGear showed a Sharkticon figure a long while back but like many of their projects, it seems to have been lost in the shuffle as nothing new has been heard in months.

I think there's a chance it'll still happen when they finish their Minibots.

Were those the mini versions of the sharkticons?

Ah thanks for the heads up. No worries though, I don't think I'll be getting custom stuff made.

HOWEVER, if someone were to make my dream toys (MP TFP)....I might have to reconsider....

So, I need some help ID'ing a toy. I don't have any pictures on me and the toy is probably long gone, but I think I remember it pretty well. I bought it sometime between 1990 and 1997. It was a legit 1st party toy bought from TRU. It was a blue jet transformer with orange parts. It also appears to be part of a combiner team because I distinctly remember there being combiner kibble that was in blue and orange - the chest plate and foot pads definately look familiar to the ones seen in this pic (https://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/0/02/Kibblecombiner.jpg) but the coloring is off. I thought it may have been a version of thundercracker, but checked the wiki and didn't see any toys that looked familiar. Anyone have any clue about what I am talking about?

Where do you guys get info on release dates for figures? Not just masterpiece, but all the TF lines? I ask because it seems like a lot of the popular characters get sold out within weeks to months of their release and the aftermarket prices get kind of ridiculous. I'd like to be able to plan in advance when to pick up my favorites as I can't afford these aftermarket prices

P.S. Anyone else excited for new release news from BotCon and SDCC?

TFW2005.com is where I tend to go although these days I rarely pay attention to anything other than Takara Masterpiece news.

The Tokyo Toy Show is on June 13th.

That'll have the first proper showing of Prowl & Bluestreak and it's also possible that we'll get the first look at Smokescreen plus an announcement for what MP20 will be.

No news that comes out of Botcon or SDCC can come close to topping that although there may be some new 3rd party announcements at Botcon as some of the groups usually have a presence.

The only thing I really want to see revealed at SDCC is the Marvel Universe Death's Head figure.

I'm always interested in what's revealed at SDCC but I'm not actually looking forward to anything in particular...

Like corsair, the only thing that really excites me these days are Takara MPs, at least Transformers-wise.

MOTUC has slowed down considerably (what could they announce at this point that would REALLY excite me?) and I don't expect much - if at all - from the Sideshow GI Joe line.

Meh... It's not really MP, is it... More of a Generations style, right?

Looks to be a similar scale.

So it might not fit with a MP display but will be great with,

iGear Impactor
( If they ever actually release the damn thing. )

Generations Springer or Warbot Defender

Mech Ideas Topspin & Twin Twist

Mach 5 Ironfist

It apparently has 3 modes, robot, tank and microscope.

I just pre-ordered Ironfist from Kapow Toys for a very reasonable £29.99 and it's out in September/October.
