Due to previous QC issues and inconsistent UK distribution of Hasbro Masterpieces I always go with the Takara versions,
With UK pricing and distribution being what it is ( crappy ), the difference in price between imported Hasbro and Takara TF's isn't usually massive so I go for the Takara due to a preference for their color schemes and packaging.
With the Lamborghini's and Nissans there's also the possibility that Hasbro won't release them due to being too cheap to acquire the required licenses to sell those figures in the US....unlike the regular Masterpieces it's not Takara's call and a Hasbro guy even confirmed that they would have to pay for seperate licenses.
The recent revelation of a Lamborghini Aventador in the 4th Bayformers movie has resulted in a lot of hysteria that Hasbro will now get the license but the following should be considered,
1.The Audi used in ROTF was only fully licensed for the videogame....the toy was a lookalike with enough changes to avoid legal action.
2.The Ferrari used in DOTM didn't get any toys presumably due to Ferrari not granting the license and being more likely to sue if Hasbro attempted a lookalike.
3.The Masterpiece line and a mass market movie based line are entirely different beasts. The same rules shouldn't be applied to them.
Re MP Grimlock,
There were rumblings a few weeks back about another run of him being released but so far nothing else has emerged.
Additionally there are a lot of people speculating that an all new Grimlock
might get made in order to fit better ie be taller than the newer version of Prime.
As this would be all of an inch taller than the existing one I would consider it to be a waste of Takara's budget.
That said if they lost the gimmicks that MP08 had and included a nicely articulated Wheelie that could sit on his back properly I couldn't rule out buying a new version as he's my favorite character.
But I would sooner see another Dinobot or other character that's not been given the Masterpiece treatment before yet another 2.0.
