Interesting points of view here. It seems no time since people were praising the paint apps on the Dinosauria line and giving the opinion that they were amongst Sideshow's better efforts in terms of QC.

It looks to me as though they dropped the ball a bit with the Deino vs Parasaur paint app, but are there any other pieces in the line to support the view that quality has dropped?

I ask as somebody who is also considering getting out of the line myself (though mostly for reasons of space and cost).

I quite frankly don't know what you are talking about, I think these pieces are awesome. The quality is just fine in my opinion, it isn't perfect, but it is damn near.

Just got an updated retailer notice: this piece is expected to arrive in Sideshow's warehouse in 10-12 days. :yess:

June 24-26th..a little earlier than expected...maybe it will move up the ship date as well. I'll have to send you payment soon Dan..lol of course I also need to order the Safari Cryolophosaurus and Icthy from you as well.. ;)

No large problems here either..some minor alterations in paint apps is really all I've noticed.

Perfect is not, than again who is and what, never in my book, the bar is too high for perfection. But I do agree these are high end quality collectible statues, reffering to craftsmanship, painting and dinero.

Yeah, it looks like those new Carnegies will be here in just a few days. I still miss the days of 1:40.

The issue I have is that these hardley look anything close to the proto when you get them in hand. I realize they cant match %100...but come on even a little bit would be nice. The base I always have an issue with. They are clearly done as quick as possible and sent out the door. The bottom pictures show exactly what im talking about...look at the proto pics...then at what you actually get. They are completley different and these are just the bases were talking about. Dont even get me started on the actual piece itself. The fact that people are so cavalier at accepting what they just purchased for hundreds of dollars despite it looking nothing like the proto is perplexing.

I've always had a preference for big dinos..the Dino Riders Bronto and Def Dinos Ultrasaur to name two.. 1/40 is a great collection scale though.

Shoot me a PM when those are in !

I think your looking for a little too much really. These pieces are great for mass produced items. Compare the quality of these to other mass produced pieces like Dinostoreus for example. I don't think any collector expects exactly what they see on a package or advertisment...you know how they always say " actual item may differ " ? It makes sense to me.

I put a lot of thought into this line before starting it. If you look at similar sized model kits, they run 1-300.00 by themselves. Add paint and building materials or if you prefer someone to paint it that will run another 1-200.00 easy.

Pretty much the cost of a Sideshow piece on the low side.. :/

I believe what your looking for is the quality of a master painter working on a superb sculpture..which is fine if you can afford it. I'm lucky to be able to swing these pieces myself.

Im not looking for EXACT paint app as the proto just....close enough. Take the Deinosuchus dio for example, that one is all kinds of "off base" than any other piece in this line. Almost every picture posted of that piece came with polka dots all over the crocs head. If you look at the original proto pics it has almost NO polka dots what so ever. Infact the whole head is a completley different shade of green. The Parasaurolophus frill features vivid blue colors in the proto...on the production piece its like a mustard yellow/green barely even noticeable :slap
I like to compare SS to CM alot....since they both pride themselves on producing top notch collectibles. If CM can make a base like they did for their predator, why cant SS do the same thing for this line on a smaller scale? Hell, I would pay $100 extra if the moss on the T-rex base was actual dried moss to give it more realism. Instead of that cheap green paint job they probably sprinkled on with a toothbrush. Its the little details that make or break a piece imo. This line needs it, but just doesnt have it.

It's hard to go by people's pics thoguh..diff light sources and camera flash can make something look better or worse. I know one member was worried about the Para's color scheme but they when got it , it was fine. Several said the same about the Deino..it looked spotty in pics but under regular lighting or sunlight it was fine..just the flashes were washing out the colors.

The bases should be neat..but they are sort of secondary..it's odd you mentioned real moss because I added real dried green moss from Walmart (3.00 bag ? ) to my Rex and Styracosaur. I added a little dried lichen off of local trees to the Carno as well.

Base issues are fixable..the upcoming Allo VS piece I plane to trace the base and sculpt a frame outof sculpey for the actual one to sit in..something more like mud and bones that have sunk.

I think it will compliment the piece and further the artistic element as well.

Sounds like a great idea for the Allo vs Camara dio, but I still wish they had made the base like the Carnotaurus base. The fact that it has a black ring around it just throws it off a little. It'd have been nice if they just made the base sloped on all sides.:wink1:

I guess it's casue it's watery mud..but it could have still been sloping I think.

I'm not a fan of the blank black either..hence the rock bone and mud frame I'm doing...;)

The Carno's looks like it was just lifted out of the ground..just awesome !

I think you are definitely asking for too much. These pieces are very similar to the prototypes. There are some differences but they are so minor that I can't see how they take away from the piece at all.

That sounds like an excellent idea Blade. I really dislike how they have the mud on top then the black base visible underneath. If I get one I was thinking about attempting to paint the sides brown.

I'll def show pics when I get it done..but I need the piece first ..why is it taking so long ! ;D

I had a thought..we know they are planning pterosaurs..and they are planning more Dinosauria ornaments ..why not Pterosaurs hanging from your tree eh ? ;)

Didn't Starlux release a hanging Rhamphorhynchus back in the day, possibly as an ornament? And the Bullyland Pteranodon comes with a dang string out the back. My concern would be the fragility of a polyresin pterosaur. Maybe they can use something softer for the wings, call it a PF.

Cancelled this dio due to too many items shipping in July. Hope to get this later if it is still available at retail. Not a priority for me though.
