His listing title is poorly worded . . .

He doesn't have Bowen or Statue in the title . . .

I have purchased from this seller previously, and it all worked out. But I noticed with him that more recently, he is charging crazy amounts. For instance, I think he had a green goblin up and was asking something like $799 BIN, and this was a few months ago. Needless to say, it didn't sell and he just lost his listing fees.

Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with flipping an item IF it actually HAS appreciated in value.... But to start jacking the prices up on JUST a PRE-ORDER is pretty ridiculous....:tap

Isn't this the basic formula to ensure that an item appreciates in value. :rotfl

Seems very common in the commerece section and on ebay.

Someone already has their Vega EX listed for $450

how did i miss this thread?

just search for 'bowen bronze' and look at completed auctions to see what these things are bringing... 500-550 for wolverine and right around 500 for cap and just about everyone else. i'm willing to bet that these will cool down after a while, if not, i'll be kicking myself for cancelling my pre-orders from bestcomics when i decided not to collect the line.

what's with people getting so butthurt when people flip stuff? i originally started collecting sideshow stuff after dropping 1400 on an original balrog and it didn't cost nearly that much originally. it didn't take me long to realize that you can pretty much pay for your collectibles if you're smart about what you buy and when. making $100 here and there really starts to add up and if i keep at it, i'll probably start to take a dent out of what was spent on my initial pieces.

So you don't see anything wrong with the following auctions?

Are you saying this kind of behavior should be advocated so we can all "fund our collection"?

When your making $550 a piece, why would you collect the line?

This is your auction, right?

I don't think there's anything wrong with flippin stuff. I mean, if you can make a buck, why not right? But on the other hand it's just ANNOYING for collectors to see items they want just goes crazy in value when they try to get their hands on one! I think what's MOST annoying is when people try to flip a PRE-ORDER. I mean, if you have a nice piece IN HAND, and it appreciates over time then SURE!! Claps to you if you've had a piece that's fermented into a Grail :) But when you're trying to sell a silly "coupon" for the RIGHT to a pre-order then that's where it's gets a little uncomfy.

We live and purchase in a capitalistic free-market economy, you can buy and sell whatever you want and the market will determine the price through supply and demand.

Would you rather have you choices limited or made for you like they tried to do in communist Russia. Or maybe once another president gets in the white house, they can ensure that you along with everybody else, has at least 1 collectible of every figure that they want.

sounds like your bitter you didn't get in on the line when you had the chance, and even more so now that they are going for nearly double. Or am I missing why you keep attaching auctions where people made some profit?

This is true and I have no problem with that if the goods are TANGIBLE.

Is a pre-order a tangible object? No!

As we all know, retailers don't charge you until items are prepped for shipping. So technically, these items aren't even paid for by the Seller.

Is there any real difference? Either you sell it now or sell it later. They are still selling it and taking the risk that 1) it doesn't sell, or 2) the price they get now may be less than it becomes in the future.

I don't give two ^^^^s about the Faux Bronze stuff.

I just don't agree with the scalping behavior that seems to be rampant among collectors, especially when it comes to Pre-Orders.

Like someone said, you're just selling a coupon for your place in line.

If you're buying mulitple quantities of the same piece then an "actual collector" pretty much has a snowball's chance in hell of buying one.

...unless they pay you a premium. Which is fine... because you need to fund your collection.

The only thing I see wrong with those auctions is that the seller is probably getting less than he would get 3-6 months from now.

People can ^^^^^ and moan all they want about flippers/scalpers. All it will do is cause your blood pressure to rise....it's not going to change anything else. It's a part of our hobby, so you can either learn to deal with it or ignore it. Other than that, there's nothing else you can do about it.

...or don't support it.

Once you stop funding a scalper's pocket/collection (especially the ones on this board and others) you will definitely see a change.

:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl that'll be the day...

in all honesty, i've very rarely made any profit on pieces that i've sold to fellow members... maybe $25-50 and that's just to cover packing supplies and to make the trip to UPS worth it. hell, i've bought pieces and resold them for exactly what i paid just because i knew a fellow freak was looking for that particular piece and the auction wouldn't last long.

we're not all about making a profit on everything or at least i'm not, but i'm not willing to go out of my way to hook just anyone up.

sure is... you like?

actually, i worked out a trade with the guy for an undisplayed exclusive wolvie dio that'll end up costing 450 shipped.

no, i don't see a single thing wrong except for the fact, as previously mentioned, that they could have made more if they waited a few months.

if you can pull it off, more power to ya. i sold my faux bronze dotf dio for 625 right off the bat, which basically paid for one of the exclusive thor PFs i have on order. i'll probably wait to flip one of those when it's nice and ripe... maybe at the 1k mark. it's all a matter of timing :D

opening the newsletter on thursday nights brings back the feeling of opening packs of cards when i was younger... sometimes you get all commons, but occasionally you'll pull a vince carter or paul pierce autographics. after that, it's just a matter of when you sell.

So even if a piece goes up in value, you should only sell it for what it originaly sold for?

Man, I would love to get a Plymouth Superbird for $4,000.

It sucks to have to read about this. People treat this hobby as an investment which is pretty retarded in my opinion. Get your self an education and a high paying job then you won't have to scalp toys for a measly profit. Losers. :lol
