It sucks to have to read about this. People treat this hobby as an investment which is pretty retarded in my opinion. Get your self an education and a high paying job then you won't have to scalp toys for a measly profit. Losers. :lol

I always laugh at the assumption that flippers dont have well paying jobs, or a good education :lol.

I graduated from one of the top 3 Aviation schools in this country with honors, and make well enough to pay for this stuff. I don't NEED to sell things on ebay to support myself or my hobby. it's just fun to do. :monkey5

OK. YOu obviously didn't get my sarcasm. :lol

yeah that one went over my head. it's just ive been reading that same stuff the past week on various forums.... i guess i assumed you were serious about it too. :lol

But I will say this... flipping is not fun. Why in the world would any one call that fun? You have to do a lot of work and deal with ^^^^ty buyers and ebay... that"s fun?! :google:lol

At the end of the day people can do what ever the ^^^^ they want to do. I don't buy anything I am not comfortable with and I don't sell at prices I'm uncomfortable asking for. The best way to live is to not mind the business of others because it will just usually upset you or something else. Who needs that ^^^^. ^^^^ you all and buy from me instead. :lol:rotfl

Nah man, I flip stuff too- everybody does it and only few care to admit it. If a piece goes up in price why not take what you can get for it? That's the way it works and I don't mind some extra money. :rock

i gots to flip since i'm still in school :lol

...or don't support it.

Once you stop funding a scalper's pocket/collection (especially the ones on this board and others) you will definitely see a change.

You won't see any change at all. For every person that says they'll never support a flipper/scalper, there's at least 10 in line to drive up the price.:lol

You know, this is really true.

There's always someone next in line that either just doesn't give a damn about your beliefs or has stupid money. It's crazy. You just have to set your own standards and stick with them- some people will agree but most will toss you aside without a seconds thought. :lol

I offer this as condolence to those upset by the actions of flippers- When something is gained, something must also be lost. This is true for everything in life.

For example, those people at SDCC buying up all that exclusive junk had to wait in line their whole time at the con and then afterwards they had to carry all that ^^^^ around. Later, they have to find a way to at least break even on the bay which can be hard to do sometimes due to the flood of scalpers out there listing their junk too. Meanwhile, you got to enjoy the con, hang out with your friends and relax. They worked for that extra $2 damnit!! :lol

Also, sometimes these flippers get burned by terrible ebayers who lie, cheat, and extort money out of sellers. Paypal is very buyer oriented and usually side with the buyer in a case of dispute.

Then you can also take comfort in knowing that flippers are always thinking about the price or value or investment potential of a piece. That is not much fun when you think about it....

What about those flippers frantically hitting F5 waiting for the newsletter to post. Not only are they stressing themselves out but they are also wasting valuable time in their lives. You on the other hand can be chilling and relaxing with family or friends. If you miss something then so what? You can either pay the extra price for it or pass. I usually pass. Most of the time I just say to myself it's just a toy or statue anyway and the next big thing will come along in probably no longer than a months time. ...:)

I think this discussion was steered more in the direction of flipping "Pre-orders" (intangible objects, hopes & dreams, coupons, etc) and not the tangible items that you aquire by facing certain death at the Cons.

Unfortunately, like evilbay this is a necessary evil, the selling of pre-orders should stick to ebay i will say that.
While some people will set a limit on what they spend some people say what the heck, if its an item/character and piece they love then they will buy it, even if the prices are incredibly high be they a pre-order or an 'in hand' item.

I've paid a pretty penny for a few of my items but I know to me personally they are priceless and I bought them knowing they were overpriced (above retail)but because they hold a value to me, I paid it as I know they will be in my collection for the longest time.
Thats part of the chase and the OCD that sometimes comes with this hobby.

More and more people are simply buying to re-sell at higher rates, thats unfortunate and sad imo as it makes it more difficult for the collector to get the item, but its not going to stop it from happening.People will either pay up or someone else will.Thats the way the world works.
Sideshow+Marvel= GOLD for a lot of people.
x :D

Flipping pre orders is very risky. Too many problems can arise from manufactures delays to SIM catastrophes. If a seller isn't careful then they will find themselves in some trouble with both Paypal and Ebay. Also, a seller who sells preorders should never commingle those funds with their own money because they may have to offer a refund sooner than they think...

See the hassle. Their loss, your gain. Buyers always hold the upperhand in these matches. :D

How is it my gain, if I don't have a product after 30-45 days?

According to Paypal, I'm screwed and at the Seller's mercy.

No, before that time limit expires you slap a dispute on them and win. BAM! YOu are victorious, plus you gave a flipper hell for breaking the rules. :rock

ALso, slap them with some negative feedback and hurt their future sales.

+1..... Let's not let this get outta hand here folks. I WAS referring to the pre-order flipping. Of course things will appreciate over time, and it's perfectly acceptable and EXPECTED to see collectors flip these for a profit. Who wouldn't?! But fliping a pre-order just causes some potential discomfort with SOME people.

anyone want to buy my FB DOTF dio? I bought it just to flip, and now I can't get $450 shipped for it. Like Rory was saying, there are inherrent risks involved when deciding to buy a piece to flip. I should have flipped it when it was a preorder and hype was high.

Victorious how?

1. I wasted 30-45 days for nothing.

2. There's no gurantee I'll get my funds back, especially if the seller withdraws funds from his account.

3. Negative Feedback? That never stops anyone.

Why don't you return it to Sideshow and tell them you couldn't make a profit on it.

They should understand.
