Book was written before DVC, but since they wanted to make bank on this more, they made it a sequel.

So book versions, A&D, DVC, New Langdon/Brown book.

Movie versions, DVC, A&D, and New blah blah.

Yea, originally it was before DVC, but they actually tied it in to make this one a sequel; with the Vatican knowning about Langdon's "adventure" that he previously had :rotfl:rotfl

Just got back from seeing it. I always liked this book more than DVC and I enjoyed this movie MUCH more than DVC; which I kind of found boring at times.

I must say, I'm SOOOOOOOOO glad they took out Langdon's flight out of the helicopter, it was the most unbelievable stupid plot device I have EVER read.

Yeah, I saw a sneak preview Wednesday night. Never read the book, thought DVC movie was boring. This one made up for it with some tense sequences, but didn't hold up, I started picking it apart once I got out of the theater. It reminded me too much of Scooby Doo with red herrings and shady characters giving shifty glances.

I got to admit I did not like this movie. They changed way to many things from the book. Everyone I went with that did not read the book liked it though. I just listened to it last month (the book) so it is still very fresh in my mind.

They completely eliminated a major character and made up a character to take his place. They completely changed the ending (not the major ending, but it is a big change from the book regardless). They ruined two character's characterizations and their motivations. And how Langdon gets involved in the whole case is completely different. And these are just some of the major changes/problems I had.

I do agree though that Langdon not getting into the helicopter made a lot more sense. That was one change I thought was a good move.

Looks like the reviews to this have been pretty bad. I liked the DVC book and movie, but I've never read Angels and Demons. I think I'll just wait for the home video release and rent it.

I originally planned to catch it, but considering all the high profile movie releases this month, I may just skip this one. Have to conserve money for what matters, right? (Terminator: Salvation).

Or go see TS, and sneak into Angels and Demons after.

I would have to disagree Butt, I liked that they could make changes this time. It didnt feel so tight like TDVC did. But I still hated that they changed the rooftop fire scene. That was so great.

Just saw it....thought it was a good deal better than DVC...I've read both books and just re-read Angels & Demons a few months ago so it was still pretty fresh....

Lot's of changes in this one....some I was okay with...some not so much. I HATED the fact that they left out

the whole reason why Camerlengo Carlo killed the Pope and devised this whole scheme....it wasn't about science - it was about him feeling betrayed by a man he loved and respected...believing that he had broken his sacred vow to God and therefore did not deserve to remain Pope. This to me is a much more powerful and emotionally charged motivation for his actions. A.nd I didn't like how the last kidnapped Cardinal lived...and became the new Pope rather than Mortati

Still entertaining...and better than I thought it would be...I just wish I would have waited and read the book AFTER watching the movie....

Don't ever let reviews determine whether you see a movie or not. I swear sometimes certain critics don't like anything.

I read the book long ago and remembered only enough that I knew who the bad guy was from the start. But as a thriller, I thought this was decent. Vittoria had little to do and seemed just like extra baggage just because they needed a girl in it.

Robert and Vittoria ended up banging at the end of the book! She was this really experienced Yoga instructor but ah well.....maybe the extended dvd version will include that scene. :monkey5

Pretty much. I enjoyed both of Brown's books..but the dude needs a new forumla.

saw it on fri nite in a packed theatre.

i never read any of the books. couldn't be bothered.

davinci code the movie just bored me into a near-coma. it was all just yak yak yak, exposition followed by more exposition. a terrible, terrible movie which broke rule number 1 of cinema: show, NOT tell.

so when my friends told me angels & demons the book was much better, i wasn't exactly impressed or reassured. but i decided to watch it anyway.

and to my (mild) surprise, it is SO MUCH better than dvc! a HUGE improvement, in fact.

this movie had a very direct, forward-driving narrative. basically it's a race against time, set within a very narrow time frame (5 hours, i think).

so on that level, it worked. tom hanks was tom hanks. which is neither good nor bad for me. i liked ewan's performance, he had this gentle, soft-spoken demeanor which kinda threw u off guard. for good reason. :D

but there were still quite a few cringe-worthy moments and plot points that almost ruined the movie for me. i won't go into detail, but i'll just say they were along the lines of: vomit-inducing preachiness, and ridiculously cliched mustache-twirling "villain" moments that pretty much gave away the so-called twist. (somebody mentioned scooby doo. that's a spot on analogy.)

but overall, i did have a reasonably good time watching it. and since i have ZERO emotional investment in the franchise, it didn't affect me either way, unlike say, wolverine.

worth a watch at the theatre, if only for the gorgeous on-location shoot.

Just seen it today and found it pretty boring.

It just seemed to go on forever, and it wasnt actually that long... Always a bad sign.

Going to see it in the following days :chew Heard mixed reviews about it

Made 46.2 million this weekend. Just beat out Star Trek's 43 mil. Should be interesting to see if this tumbles next weekend.

I think it will. I'll guess a 55% dip with Star Trek holding on to second place.

EDIT: Make that a third place for Star Trek. I just noticed that lame ass Night At The Museum 2 is also opening this week.
