Exactly Sean. Really alot of what made Anakin happens off screen between the two movies (which is unfortunate) but in the end it was that feeling of entitlement which is what brought Anakin down. I think someday someone should remake the PT to be more like the novelizations. the books were great and there was no confusion as to what motivated anyone.

Unfortunate is an understatement. That's a huge gaffe, imho. Especially when we're supposed to believe that his arc is the crux of the trilogy.

Exactly right. Still, reading the books have helped amplify my enjoyment of the PT so it doesn't bother me too much.

I got a better understanding of Anakin from the Prequel books more so than the movies, especially episode 3. Everything made more sense in the book than in the movie.

My preferred PT:

Episode I: Labyrinth of Evil (elements from AOTC)

Episode II: Revenge of The Sith (Anakin turning to Vader should have been THE cliffhanger of the PT)

Episode III: The Rise of Darth Vader

The rest (i.e., TPM) could have been told in Opening Crawls.

Interesting. I think I just found the next 3 books to read. Thanks! :D

Lucas' biggest failure in the PT was failing to realize that he had structured it as a PLOT-DRIVEN series of films as opposed to character-driven like that of the OT.

And being plot-driven is fine... as long as you don't betray that. The problem is that Lucas tried to shoe-horn the Anakin character arc as the main theme of the PT story, and it falls completely flat. Instead, the main focus should have been on the Fall of the Republic itself, which hits some very strong beats in all three films but never truly was given the emphasis it deserved (which would have paid HUGE dividends for the OT story).

Case in point, ROTS: Lucas cut some fantastic political scenes about the formation of the Rebellion in lieu of more awkward lovey-dovey scenes between Anakin and Padme. :huh :banghead

He set out the make a certain set of films and tried to make another at the same time.

Ya, Lucas promoted the importance of that, and I think he truly was behind that, but wasn't good at relaying it. I think he someone thought if he hinted here and there about Anakin's arc while the rest of the story went on it would be enough.

The PT ended up being two stories, "The Old Republic" and "The Rise and Fall of Anakin Skywalker". Unfortunately, what happened was the Republic's story almost overshadowed Anakin's for the entire PT. Thankfully, Lucas gave Anakin's story proper focus in ROTS, and if ever he was going to wake up that was the film to do it with. Had TPM and AOTC focused more on Anakin, I think it would have been a better presentation. I think that's why people favor OT over PT a lot. The OT heavily focused on what was going on with Luke, especially ESB, and it allowed people to attach to someone and go on the journey with them. The rebellion was farily secondary to the story of the trials in Luke's life. Had the PT given us an Anakin story that allowed viewers to grow attached to him and follow his life better, I think it would have captured all the OT fun and made the rise and fall of Anakin even more tragic and heart breaking.

These are very opposite opinions and personally, I tend to agree more with Irish. IMO the fatal flaw in the PT was trying to make Anakin the core of the story when really the grand scheme of the Empire vs the Republic should have been the core and Anakin a player in that.

Well, I was commenting off Lucas' own telling of what the story of the PT was intended to be. I think one that focused on better developing how the galaxy ended up the way it was in the OT would have been an interesting trilogy as well.

Bottom line is, Lucas tried to tell 2 stories at one time, and neither was given it's all so it came out less than it could have been. Had he committed to either 100%, it would have been a different matter.

I enjoy the entire SW saga, I've been watching it in order recently, just finished AOTC the other night. They're great, thrilling, visually entertaining films. Once you reach an age where you can make coherent analysis of them beyond the mindless viewing experience, you do start to notice things. It may seem hard to imagine I can be so vocally critical of things done in the saga and still be a huge fan, but believe me I'm hooked. On these boards I tend to be more the intellectual side of my persona, but when I watch Star Wars or buy an SW collectible or do my pictures, it's about stepping out of my own life and walking into another world, and the world of Star Wars has always been and likely will always be the world I'd love to be in most if I could leave this one behind.

Boy I sure do love this figure!

I'm totally diggin this Luke figure. I can't wait to get it in hand. Ever since I missed out on the Bespin Luke exclusive, I don't have as much of a fire to get the exclusives anymore. Not sure I would ever pose Luke in the poncho or hat. Maybe I should save a few bucks and cancel it....

NAH!!!!!

Mikey, Luke's poncho comes with the basic figure. The hat and the goggles on the hat are the exclusives, so if you just go for the regular you don't lose the poncho.

LOVE this figure!

I have the exclusive on order, but may get another for the parts. The head for Yavin Luke and the body to Jedi Luke. Maybe I'll get another head to make Stormtrooper Luke from one of my Marmits? :stormtroo

Of the Hasbro x-wing outfit for a pilot Luke.:D

I've actually already ordered the Ex. and regular for that purpose, though I hadn't considered the head and body part out like you suggest, a good idea though. I'll probably do it that way, depends on the quality of the Buck it ends up on. If it has loose parts like Bespin Luke had, I'll just keep the lousy body for Yavin as my Jedi Luke has nice, tight joints.
