On the bright side, I remain extremely impressed with Trevor's sculpt. And the leg-wrappings turned out really well in production. I was worried about those.

In my opinion yes.

Firstly, no one should commenting on the hair color as if it was a flop in production because it's just like the proto. No need to like it, but it can't be regarded as a QC flop.

As for the overall quality of late. ANH Han has demonstrated a finer quality to SSC's clothing that from pics, I see carrying over to Luke as well, and the Hobbits also showed better tailoring, linings on jackets, clean edges, no fraying threads. Han and Luke also demonstrate a pattern towards replicating or bettering the prototype paint, a longtime chief complaint of folks.

To me, Sideshow is stepping up their game. Maybe it's not at the point folks think it should be at, but I think it is further along than it was 6 months ago.

It most definitely is, at least the tunic. It's not just the color... it's also not at all the same material. The prototype was MUCH better there.

Don't bother, man. They aren't listening. But I for one am seeing exactly the same thing you are. The fabric on the production tunic is clearly inferior. Now, the tailoring is fine (and clearly better than Hasbro), but the material itself is NOT on par with its high-end pricepoint.

Of course the fabric is different. In other words, they couldn't match/afford the proto's fabric, so they settled for a cheaper one.

Why does it have to be they went cheaper? I'd say this was as close as match as they could get. They've said before that they can't always match the same fabric they get here over where the factory is at. Its not the same material but still looks good. In the HR the color isn't that far off so maybe its closer or will look so in person.

It's just the truth, dude. Just LOOKING at the details of the 2 fabrics tells you that A) They're different, and B) The production fabric isn't as nice and thus likely cheaper. No reason to be defensive about it.

It's no stretch to assume that any company will substitute for a cheaper raw material when it can. Dealing with these setbacks is all part of collecting.

By no means am I saying that all Lukes should be sent to a landfill. If you like it, that's great - but I don't.

Yes, the truth is they're different. Though the production on the box looks stiff which if you work it a little will come out. Looks as nice though at least to the majority looking at it.

Just because its different doesn't mean its cheaper and no need to act like someone just stole your binky either.

It's also not a deal-breaker (for me)... just very disappointing. I really thought we'd gotten past these kinds of things with Sideshow's figures. Now it's still more than factory paint apps that we need to worry about when the production items hit. Oh well.

I'm not. I'm just very disappointed, because I was hoping for something much closer to the proto (like most of the recent SSC figures). See, you're the one getting ugly about it.

The tunic is definitely a different color and likely a different material, without being able to see them both in hand I can't say it's different, the only visual differences I see are ther wrinkled worn look and the color. I still think overall the figure looks fine and I don't see any significant change from the prototype.

I am hoping to get this one from ebay for cheaper. Don't see it being worth the price after going over the pictures again.

Gotta side partially with Irish here...

It is VERY obvious that the material used on the production model is VERY different from the one featured on the proto. I'll definitely reserve judgement til Luke is here in front of me...ANH Han looks way better than the prod or board pictures made him look as far as I'm concerned.

As for that choice being cheaper for them...impossible to say...could have been something as simple as availability at the time of manufacture...who knows. My only worry is that the newer material looks almost synthetic...I hope not.

We'll see soon enough...

IJ is exactly right. Anyone defending the ^^^^ about the tunic not being inferior is ^^^^ing kidding themselves. The paint looks fine on this one but the tunic is cheaper and the hair is too dark. I'm kinda getting sick of this ^^^^ with SS, see one thing and get another. You don't see this to this extent with medi or HT.

I like the figure, but like IJ it is disappointing. I might cancel the exclusive and get it cheaper after seeing the high res pics.

I didn't notice how bad the new tunic looks until comparing them. The proto tunic was much better, like it came straight off screen. The new one looks blah so far.
